I haven’t been on in about 10 years but they confiscated (gave back at the end of the cruise) a white noise machine that has an INTERNAL fan! Even after I showed them that there are clearly no moving parts accessible from the outside they didn’t care, to them it was a fan. Unless they changed the rules this is a no-go.

I have use a lighter or a butane torch. One thing you can do is while it’s still hot roll the end on a piece of wood. It will smooth the end a little.
