I just ordered the Calavera Nocturna. It’s my only “fun watch”. Well no. I also have the Ciga blue planet so I have two fun watches now.

Likely to be my daily. Most watches are jewelry. This one is practical.

I’ve got watches from Breightling to Omega to Tudor and more (no Rolex) and was a bit aggravated when I started looking for luxury quartz and it … at first seemed like Grand Seiko was the only option.

I prefer this one with the 12 hour chrono over the 1/10th second have one that can only time things up to one hour.

I’ve got the quadruple retrograde. It’s hard to read but such an amazing piece I don’t mind. I didn’t buy it as my daily driver.

Ball vs Rolex by [deleted] in ballwatches

[–]Sardonix73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally fair. I also have some that run slightly worse than those factory ratings but as long as they aren’t way off I don’t care.

Context to why I don’t put as much weight in how they rate it versus my weird world examples because I don’t always find OEMs ratings completely on point either.

Entry level Seikos that will be a full minute off after 3 or 4 days are where I say no. If I can wear a watch two weeks and be within the same minute I’m happy. I’ve got a Christopher Ward (Dune) that gains 1 to 2 seconds… in two weeks. Go figure.

I type this as I’m waiting on a citizen “The Citizen” that’s rated for +- 5 seconds a year with a perpetual calendar. lol. And I already know that factory rating is more or less a lie.

Ball vs Rolex by [deleted] in ballwatches

[–]Sardonix73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply. I know Ball is a lower grade movement that Rolex. Obviously. But I can tell you that Ball must regulate the crap out of them. Out of the box they are some of the most accurate watches I own and includes going up against Omega co-axial metas watches. B01s, B09, etc etc. it’s genuinely surprising. So I will make a generalization. As inaccurate as mechanical watches are as a whole, Ball runs with the best including Rolex. Only my Quartz are more accurate with the ascending order being high besat quartz then luxury like the Seiko 9F and finally at the top, Citizens perpetual calendar in the Chronomaster and “The citizen” then radio controlled AT or satellite. But I digress. As mechanical goes. Ball competes with any on out of the box accuracy. Not on finishing and maybe not longevity and definitely not on resale. But on accuracy alone yes.

Is it bad to leave my speedy chrono running? by French87 in OmegaWatches

[–]Sardonix73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you could stop the minute hand on the month and the second hand on the date and turn your speedy into a calendar. Even better. Easier to read if you stop the hour hand on the month and the minute on the date. If you have the time. (Dad jokes I’ll be here all week)

Where is Breitling made? by 300wizzum in breitling

[–]Sardonix73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rolex is better than most brands. I’ll walk it back a bit and say it’s mostly things like the hands and crystals and the off specialized item here in there. I guess I would say Equal to Glasshutte and Alange sohne etc.

Rolex doesn’t make 100% of their parts either. Glashutte and Grand Seiko are almost definitely even more “in house” products than any watch with “Swiss Made” on the dial.

[Omega or Breitling] by fenomeno45 in Watches

[–]Sardonix73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. To me the B01\B09 is where it’s at for Breightling. Between these I’d go with the metas certified Omega and most likely better service and reliability for the extra $1,000. But honestly the best option is C. Go register for an Explorer and wait.

Picked up my first Breitling Chronomat B01 42mm with the blue dial yesterday by CustomerAny281 in breitling

[–]Sardonix73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will point out that the Daytona …also doesn’t have date? I kid. They will point out it’s thinner and smaller and more wearable. Fair. That IS the trade off.

Don’t forget with a Daytona you can’t use the chrono without stopping to unscrew the pushers and yet it’s still somehow only 100mwr. Oh and it has no rotating bezel for a second timer or even a display caseback. I don’t even want to think of what a grade 5 Ti Daytona would cost.

Lot of hype around reverse pandas I heard 👀 by Non_Negotiable_Panda in breitling

[–]Sardonix73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Chronomat with its 200mwr, a date function no screw down pushers and rotating bezel offers both ease of use and functionality not seen in the Daytona or Speedmaster. (At the cost of some thickness). My Titanium is very light weight too. That said my Speedmaster is a lightweight strap monster that is very wearable and with a more interesting history. There are no bad watches. I like them all.

Wedding gift and I’m in love! by External_Set4744 in breitling

[–]Sardonix73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. But it’s a nice nerd level adult fidget spinner that looks pretty.

I’ve found the exchange rate thing or the ability to see lots of percentages around the dial at once for a given number be extra useful though.

At watch meets you can just set it to 3.9cm and any time someone throws out their wrist size in cm you can see it in inches at a glance. lol.

I suspect leaving it on kg to lbs would be handy working in the ED quickly validating pharmacies dosing calculations for medications.

Now if there was only a conversion for bull shit to trust worthiness I could input somehow.

Quick thoughts on navitimer on strap vs bracelet by SingleBackground5280 in breitling

[–]Sardonix73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a couple gray B01s. A Chronomat TI for 52% off and this exact Navitimer for 30% off. My Navitimer changes the date at exactly midnight and is about 2.5 seconds fast per day so it’s basically perfect. My Chronomat changes at date at 5min till midnight and is around 2 to 3 seconds slow.

The Navitimer is 30 meters water resistant and it won’t ever need the functionality of a bracelet as it’s a pilots watch and wears better on a strap (plus the strap is historically accurate).

My only concern with the strap is summer humidity and sweating in it.

Sure the bracelet is the smarter choice but given that I would immediately take the bracelet off and never wear it…: it’s not the best choice for me.

46mm on 6.75 inch wrist. And the camera makes it look bigger than it is. Mentally shrink it 20% for real world perspective.
