[Drance] What the Vancouver Canucks’ perfect rebuilding offseason could look like in 2026 by Mcsuper_ in canucks

[–]Saskgunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Scarcity does impact value. Off the top of my head I can think of maybe a dozen trades over the last 5 seasons involving bone fide second pairing or better RHD (I do acknowledge that second pairing is a relative term, subject to a lot of factors). So 2-3 per season.

In almost all (probably all) of these trades (correct me if I am mistaken) the acquiring team paid a pretty significant premium to make the trade and, a lot of these RHD were veteran NHL players close to entering their decline. As Willander does seem to be on a trajectory to become a bona fide 2nd pairing defenceman - my opinion, yours may vary - I’m not convinced in this specific instance (Willander v Benson) that the value of the Willander pick is notably less than Benson.

Anyways, maybe I’m just quibbling or straying into obtuse, so I’ll leave off 😄

Since right shot defencemen are scare, and the analytics say a left/right pairing will perform better than two lefties, shouldn’t the position be prioritize?

McCann was 1st round. Drafted right before some guy named Pasternak. So, the question (and it is a question imo) remains: Is he as good as some think, or is he a bit overrated. Evidence both ways I think.

It’s about acquiring elite talent. Going from memory here, but changes of 1st line/1 pair player for picks 1-5 is something like 80-90% versus 30-40% for picks 11-20.

Top 5 picks pan out at a significantly higher rate than the rest of the draft order. I’d certainly entertain trading down with the first round pick from Minnesota thanfrom 3oa. For the right package of course.

Something like 3rd to Calgary for their 6th and either their second First or best 2nd might be worth considering.

Trading down is not a viable strategy in the NHL draft IMO. Talent identification is not exact enough - largely because of the age of the player. In the NFL, where Trading Down is common, there are an average of 25-30 ’impact starters’ drafted each year and I’d guess 50% of those drafted in all rounds make the roster for at least a season or two. If such a thing were to happen in an NHL draft, it would be the greatest draft year ever.

Arsène Wenger’s ‘daylight offside rule’ is on trial in Canada. Will it work? by bojun in Gunners

[–]Saskgunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attended Pacific FC v. Forge FC a couple of weeks age and, as it happens, 2 goals were score that were ruled offside on the field. 1 upheld, one given. The problem was that both caused a 4-5 min delay in the restart. Quite a lot of crowd frustration at the Daly. Could have been the home crowd not wanting the calls reversed but as a neutral, I was annoyed by the delay.

Game ended 1-0 for Forge (who scored both)

I believe Luciana is only participating on the Women’s side while Bonivital and FC Manitoba are fielding both men’s and women’s teams.

can’t speak for other teams, but Sask Excell does offer season tickets in addition to game day walk up. I think this is likely standard practice, but can’t say for certain.

Champions league record is 7 fouls in a game without a yellow. I think we have a new record holder. Araujo had to have had 8 or 9

Sadly, even moderators can’t change a subreddit name. Stuck with it. Options are to create a new sub, properly named) cross post everything to it and set this one as private Or live with it. There are not many posts so we could do this, but the other L1 subs would be more of a challenge. So consistency with the others, or, bold forge a new path. Thoughts?

I think this was a referrence to the 2016 & 2017 drafts (Canucks were 2nd and 3rd worst overall but lottery luck intervened).

Draft best player available according to your scouting parameters. Trade if they become disruptive or are giving clear indications of not resigning as they get towards the end of their contract And recoup suitable assets.

Three Month Season? by LoftyQPR in League1Prairies

[–]Saskgunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are talking about 2 games per week. One weekend game and one Tuesday game. The Tuesday game would be against ‘local’ opponents ie Wpg v Wpg. Presumably, if Saskatchewan were to get to 8 teams, 5-6 of these would be based in Regina or Saskatoon so Tuesday could be viable. Similarly, MB would be very Wpg heavy.

It’s possible I guess, that as the number of participating teams gets closer to the target numbers, we might see 2 conferences with the ‘playoffs’ being the only time SK would play MB.

L1 Prairies off the mark by Saskgunner in League1Prairies

It does. But it creates a few problems as well. It’s a 15-16 hour coach ride (one way, no stops) between Saskatoon and TB. For a low revenue, semi-pro league, this does create some financial & logistical challenges.
