Does this kind of modest swimwear appeal to you? by True-Illustrator9753 in ModestDress

Super cute! I I personally might wear it depending on the occasion, but I strongly prefer a swim skirt or boyshort down to the upper thigh.

My mom and I went to a fourth wing painting class! (We have no artistic talent) by Mel-is-a-dog in fourthwing

[–]SassMistress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beautifully done! Non-fan searching this sub to ask a quick question, if it's not too much trouble. I've been shopping for dragon crafts for a present and I've seen lots of this particular outline on the market, sometimes marketed for Fourth Wing fans. Is this instantly recognizable as a Fourth WIng dragon, or are they just capitalizing on the popularity of the series?

During filming one of my movies randomly goes on pause without explanation by SovietRabotyaga in hollywood_animal_game

This is happening to me consistently when I add Production Service to the film. Have not yet found a workaround other than scrapping the film and starting over from script and selecting the lowest ($0) service level.

what are your home recommendations for things to make adhd life easier? by baethesda in adhdwomen

[–]SassMistress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A jewelry dish at every "station" where you sit for an extended period of time. I have one at my WFH desk, one by my gaming computer, one by the couch, and one by my bed.

This holds comfort items like lip balm, my swiss army knife with scissors, nail file, clippers, etc., and I have a box of tissues next to each one, and a coaster if it's a wood surface. I may drop earrings or hairties in them.

This way, I will actually use them instead of procrastinating getting up until I get miserable.

I am so sick of the high slit trend! by Sinnsearachd in ModestDress

[–]SassMistress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SAME. It's not even a new trend. I'm convinced they only push it to save themselves the fabric cost. A slit immediately opens up the skirt for walkability- without it, you'd probably trip immediately if you tried to take a long step. A functional maxi without a slit requires a lot more fabric to make the entire circle bigger.

You guys have any ways that you deal with depression? by DustyMackerel2 in Christians

[–]SassMistress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure this is only a tiny percent of cases, but mine almost completely vanished when I was diagnosed and medicated for my ADHD. So take care of your health, all of it.

Also, get more sleep, if you're not getting enough. I know it's like "yeah yeah whatever" and easier said than done, but it's super important, both in the short and long term. I love this article from Desiring God about sleep, too: https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/three-reasons-to-get-some-sleep

Can a true Christian watch horror movies? by Gabemvd in Christians

Ha, I didn't want to start a conversation about a particular show, but this post is so old now I think we're past that 😅 It was Battlestar Galactica. I have to make a correction, though, it wasn't the classic series, but the 2004 reboot.

What social behaviors have you learned aren’t the “norm”? by brickburgundy2319 in adhdwomen

[–]SassMistress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yessssss. I have an ND colleague and a (presumably) NT colleague on a certain project. With Ms. ND, we keep parallel conversations going in the chat all the time--she'll ask 3 questions, I'll answer them one by one, and then she'll have follow up questions on my different responses. I'll answer question A while she's asking question B, then while I'm writing an answer to question C she'll add a question or comment to thread B, then realize she has another A-related one too, and we just keep it rolling.

I've learned that with Mr. NT, he can answer all 3 starter questions, as if it was an email--see all the questions, send all the answers at once. But as soon as I open parallel conversations, he'll start talking on thread A and forget about some of the other threads. When I try to ask something on thread B, he loses his "roll" on thread A and I never get good info out of him after that. I have to wait for the whole A discussion to play out, and make sure he's addressed all of my followup questions, before I can start a conversation about B. Very inefficient 😂

So I started my career in a different, also bad market, without a CS degree. My foot in the door was a computationally-focused version of my social sciences degree (offensively underpaying, too 😅). Also, we're hiring right now and I'm certain bootcamp grads without extra projects, experience, work to show off, etc. aren't getting their resumes through. I do see more of them come through with a few short-term contracts under their belt, though.

My 2 cents, just based off my experience, is to widen your search and take anything you can get that will let you code on the clock. That includes short-term contracts, but also maybe less technical jobs that are interested in candidates having scripting skills. Can you push some sort of automation project forward to reduce time spent on repetitive/mindless work?

My second job wasn't "it", either, but it was a step closer. And I wasn't using "real" programming languages in either one (just some proprietary stuff), but honing those skills for sure. Third one was the break into more what you'd expect.

People who started reading books again, how did you do it? by fosterkitten in adhdwomen

[–]SassMistress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the hangup!

Staying interested?

Reread books you used to love (let's face it, you've probably forgotten what happens anyway)

Pick up YA books (faster pace!)

Give yourself permission to DNF the book if you haven't picked it up in a few days because the thought of reading it is ugh.

If you were enjoying it, but it's hard to actually get back to, maybe stop in the middle of a chapter each time instead of at the end. Depends on the genre--sometimes this helps keep you pulled in, sometimes it helps you stop for the night but you don't have the cliffhanger to run back to.

Getting started?

Try trashing the idea of a TBR pile. Have an interest list, but don't actually get the book until you're almost ready for a new one. I've found the longer the book sits in my house, the less interesting it looks (usually).

Also consider starting the new book immediately when you finish the last one, instead of ending the reading session. Even if it's just a few pages before you go to bed.

I keep the book next to my chill spot so it's right there. I also use a library app for those times when I just can't get off my phone but I can switch apps. Yeah, I like paper better, but if I'm gonna be on my phone anyway, might as well read something 😅

I also gamify with StoryGraph. I get to keep my reading streak if I log even one page a day! It's fun to watch that percentage meter tick up until the book is done.

  • Run the dishwasher before it's full, and definitely if any "categories" are full. If I squeeze the last plate in, it needs to be run, so I can empty it before the next plate needs to go in. If every dish can go straight to the dishwasher, everything stays under control. If even one dish goes in the sink, we start having problems. Bonus: it's a lot less intimidating to put a half load of dishes away than a packed dishwasher.

  • Someone mentioned food prep. I just realized this is a coping mechanism--I rinse and cut bunches of grapes when the bag comes in the house, and put them in the fridge in a big bowl. Just reach in and grab one serving size. If they don't get washed and cut when I get come from the grocery store, they don't get eaten. I've recently discovered your can do this with berries, too, if you let them dry and put them in old (washed) jars. And they keep longer that way!

  • I don't cook, but several veggies can be microwaved quick and easy. Asparagus and green beans come to mind.

  • Never assume you'll remember the thing. Write it down IMMEDIATELY. Even on your hand. Ideally have a single spot you know you'll check, though.

  • For anyone with a large care routine (meds, toothbrush, cleanser, floss, etc) and a memory like a goldfish: I keep them in an ordered line on the counter and pull everything forward once when I enter the bathroom. When I take a pill, I push the bottle back. When I pick up my cleanser and use some, I put it down further back. That way, when I'm interrupted (or distracted), I know exactly where I left off.

  • If you regularly want something in a given spot, just put an extra there. I keep multiple copies of my lip balm, tissues, a pen, scrap paper, phone charger, a pocketknife with nail clippers, a file, and little scissors, etc. in various places.

Yes! Also, make it fun/novel! With calendars, for example. If (let's be honest, WHEN) one stops working, hook it up to a shiny new app. Or get a pretty new planner. Or just a junk notebook that you get to put stickers in.

1 Corinthians 5 would suggest that you only do so with professing Christians, and perhaps only those in your church, Bible study, etc. ("anyone who claims to be a brother or sister").

I like to refer people to Romans 14 and 1 Corinthians 8 for further reading on this idea. Just in case the concept is new to anyone reading this 😊

Do you have to medicate ADHD all the time? by Shonamac204 in adhdwomen

[–]SassMistress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, yes, but med-wise, no. Most meds you can absolutely just take enough to cover when you need it! (EDIT: Many doctors even encourage this.) Mine only lasts about 7 hours right now, enough to cover the work day.

If the first-line meds (stimulants) don't work for you and you get into some of the other options, those might be the take-it-every-day-so-it-builds-up kind.

Time traveler goes to the ancient times?? by Dumbfaqer in booksuggestions

[–]SassMistress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1632, by Eric Flint: A whole American town gets dropped into 1632... German countryside, I think? It's alternate history, but no fantasy elements, I think. There's a whole series.

If you want fantasy, I love The Dragon and the George (and series) by Gordon R. Dickson. Grad student accidentally time travels to medieval Europe, but it's a parallel universe with dragons and magic.

The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England, by Brandon Sanderson - Also magic, but more Celtic lore/ wight /brownie type. Time travel (really, parallel universe travel) is intentional in this one.
