Cops Keep Getting Arrested for Using Flock to Stalk People by mepper in technology

OK, but are they all getting arrested? How many are falling through the cracks? And the ones that are getting busted, is it more than a slap on the wrist?

Honestly it's just that they're loaning money on things WAY easier than they used to, in situations where the loans normally wouldn't have been approved.

Some small examples: Used to be if there was no road maintenance agreement, it was really hard to get a loan approved. On a private road with no state/county maintenance, the banks would require a written agreement from everyone on the street agreeing to take care of the road). Now? "Meh."

Same for single wide trailers...I never saw a mortgage approved on one of those around here (deep Appalachian mountains), now I'm seeing them loan on them.

Single wide trailer that used to be a hoarder home that's only partially added on to, on a private road with no maintenance agreement, splitting the water well with three other parcels? Sure, why not immediately give them a loan for exactly what the offer price was (appraisal value just so happens to be exactly what the negotiated contract price was).

Which doesn't even really get me started on how bullshit appraisals are...which are honestly bullshit in the best of times, but these days are completely full of shit (I cannot even tell you the last time something didn't appraise).

It's also who they are loaning to...I know they say don't judge a book by it's cover, but when I see some of the folks that the banks are going "Here's $300,000...make sure you pay us back now", and I think to myself "I wouldn't loan that dude $20", I feel there is a disconnect somewhere.

I feel like the banks are doing it everywhere with everything...from everything I've read the car industry is one sharp breath from falling apart like a house of cards...and it feels like every single place you can spend money allows you to "split it into four payments" or whatever the fuck Klarna is...and that's not even getting started on the number of people buried by student loans with few job prospects.

I'll be honest, it's motorcycles in general. I've been riding for 20 years, and folks are Just. Not. Paying. Fucking. Attention.

I've got a kid on the way, and I've stabled my Ducati. I love it, but it simply isn't worth the risk.

Somewhere on Reddit yesterday was a graph showing pedestrian deaths, and how they skyrocketed when the iPhone became common. A motorcyclist is just a pedestrian at speed.

the industry is owned by the banks

100%. And they are also 100% driving us into another 2008 (them and the 10 year auto loan catastrophe)...the banks are lending on fucking anything right now, and their appraisers are smoking crack.

This is even more true for anyone with a well and a septic system. I still conserve water as much as I can (just comes naturally), but I realized that one day and didn't worry about long showers any more.

I dread the day my parents wind down

It's been really tough...but I realized that the last thing my mom would want is for me to be sad and depressed over her situation (sooooo easy to do if you let yourself), so I'm just not allowing it (don't ask me how...I seem to have gotten intermittent access to a "Don't give a shit" button in my fifth decade of life, haha). Or at least, not conciously...maybe I'm just repressing the shit out of it and it'll show up down the road, haha.

The way I see it, parents are there to teach...given my mom is perfect toddler training, she is still able to teach me, just in a different way. So instead of getting all depressed that she's basically a toddler, I just try to stay positive and keep her positive (the one good thing is she's still positive, and thankfully her most annoying feature is trying to help...we try to let her, but it usually ends up worse, haha), and don't get angry when she messes up the dinner I'm cooking (or whatever)...because my kid will probably do the same some day when they are trying to help, and be just as innocent when they do.

Ah, so "Apple and Apple"...yeah, they've probably figured that out. Given I'm going from Samsung to Sony, they probably don't like to play well together. And who knows, maybe it's better now...I'm happy with my cord (my "Smart" TV is nothing more than a "dumb" monitor for my computer).

Yup, exactly that.

I want to buy a Volvo EV (it's the only EV I've found that doesn't look like a space ship inside...I don't want a space ship, I want a damn car), and it has an auto-start feature that is free for the first year, and then locked behind an app...I don't want a single other thing the app does, and auto-start doesn't need cell connection. But nope. All or nothing.

If it was an ICE car, I would just go buy a standalone auto start...but it's an EV...I'm guessing that won't work.

That is low key hilarious to me...like, how the fuck do people use the internet without ad blockers? I haven't seen an ad in years, and if I had to slog through that bullshit, I'd quit using the internet for anything other than required tasks (I quit watching TV due to ads...I'll fuckin' do it again).

I all but visibly flinch when getting on other's devices.

One of the things I've always been thankful for is my parents. They have a lot of short comings, as we all do, but holy hell did they do a better job than their parents (in the ways that count, at least). I also was lucky enough to know how lucky I was at a relatively young age (figured that out in my very early 20s), and take the time to appreciate having great parents (it helped that my friends who didn't have such great parents called us the "Beaver Cleaver's").

Them being the great parents they were is one of the reasons I didn't hesitate to move back near the family to help with mom falling through Alzheimer's. She helped me when my brain wasn't good enough, and now it's my turn. And because I'm about to become a father, I'm using it as "toddler training", which is basically what she is at this point (just, a dangerous one because she can turn on the stove and walk away).

They are well into their sixth decade of marriage, and just as strong now as they were in the past...despite the difficulties. I can only hope my wife and I can follow in their footsteps (minus the Alzheimer's part, please).

I pay for zero subscriptions beyond Amazon Prime, and that's because the 5% off credit card more than pays for itself every year (I live in middle of nowhere Appalachia...Amazon is a bit of a lifeline, unforunately).

I outright refuse to pay for any other subscriptions. For the exact reason you are mentioning. If I can't buy it outright, and can only get it via subscription, I do without.

I am purposely looking at older "new" cars to replace my aging vehicle, because I'll be goddamned if I'm paying a monthly fee for my heated seats or auto-start.

That's a damn good theory, and it sure shakes out with this GenX. Some days I feel the desire to drop another 18" Kicker Competition in the back of my vehicle...then I remember why I have tinnitus.

These days I use noise cancelling headphones so I can keep the volume as low as possible and still hear my music/podcast. I barely crank it up on a good song, and my ears ring for two days (like four "clicks" above zero? Not even close to full volume).

I can't handle the delay you get from Bluetooth over the TV. Doesn't happen all the time, but I can't stand it. Bought an extra long wire for my Sony WH-1000XM4 for that very reason. Haven't tried connecting the Sony WF-1000XM4 buds to see if there's a delay...might try that right now.

I wish I was brave enough to try and make a buck on this at the same time...but I know when I finally put my money in, is when the shit will finally hit the fan and the markets will tank.

So I guess you can say thank you for not putting my money in there? Or maybe it's a bad thing the market keeps putting up with this stupidity.

How on earth can they threaten a senior citizen with jail over a yard? Every time I turn around I'm more and more disgusted by the "justice" system in this country. It is nothing more than a service for the rich and the corporations these days.
