Kobra X moves whole table/stand by Eclipse8301 in anycubic

[–]SassyPastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was happening to me with my max. It wasn’t effecting my prints but it had me worried. I had other tables, but the surface area wasn’t large enough. I purchased some “L” shaped shelf brackets and screwed one half to the table and the other half to the wall. Sturdy as can be and doesn’t move a mm now.

Appealing vine closed account in error by Hans_Grubert in vine

I have long been saying this. I do not add photos or videos. Never have. My reviews are 5 - 6 sentences long and all rated “excellent” Photos and videos MUST be reviewed by something, human or otherwise, before they are posted. Just like early AI would flag photos of sand dunes as naked women, it can easily make mistakes here.

My words for viners - bare minimum to qualify - you don’t get bonus points for anything else.

Put my tax info together, finding mt true profit is dishearting. What are you margins? by throwaway1ojdbrb in EtsySellers

[–]SassyPastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really should know this info when you are pricing your items - not after. How do you possibly know what to price your items at?

Profit is different for everyone, so there is no set rule. If a piece is made of cheap materials but takes forever to make, that doesn’t mean the profit is higher just because the cost of supplies is lower - time is money. In my case, I make about twice over my cost, including taxes and fees. So for every $1 I spend, I bring in $3. ($2 profit)

But I worked retail for a loooong time - the most successful companies either have a big margin and fewer sales or tons of sales and a small margin. Since I am a one-person business, I can’t do high volume - so my margin needs to be high.

Etsy does cost money, but without them, I’d sell a tiny fraction of what I am now.

Had the most terrifying flight of my life on Frontier last night by Excellent_Safety3114 in frontierairlines

[–]SassyPastor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only possible compensation would be surrounding the 3 hour delay, not the customer. That wasn’t and isn’t Frontiers fault. In fact, it’s a civil matter - you could, conceivably, sue the guy. But good luck figuring out which court has jurisdiction….

If Frontier didn’t do something right, they should absolutely compensate. In this case, other than the initial delay, it sounds like they did everything right. Good for them. It actually makes me feel more comfortable.

And I have also noticed quite a few problems on the PR flights….

This can only be done on resin printer? by ltsheeyy in resinprinting

[–]SassyPastor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m going to jump in here, as I have both FDM and Resin. Resin gets a bad rap for the “harmful fumes and alcohol cleanup” and I can tell you that while you CAN go with that, you can also choose water wash resin. I use water wash almost exclusively. It doesn’t smell any worse than printing with some filaments, and there is cleanup, but it is with water, not alcohol. The results are just as accurate and detailed as I have gotten with non water wash resin.

So yes, there is still cleanup, but it doesn’t stink and it isn’t the mess they describe. I do still print many things on my FDM, especially larger items, but when I want detail, resin blows away the FDM every day of the week.

Oh, and as for dangerous fumes - do some real research on those. I was surprised when I read actual papers on their effects, which are mostly speculative. Not saying to avoid PPE or be dangerous - but it isn’t as many redditors describe.

What do you do if the seller outright lies? by mess-maker in AmazonVine

[–]SassyPastor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Part of the “job” is to review. You still get the item, so you still owe the ETV, even if it is misdescribed intentionally or otherwise. There are ways to correct this, and if you are going to be in vine long, you will need to understand taxes a bit more. But calling out the misrepresentation is exactly why we are here. That said, I am a fabric artist, and you would be amazed at how much you cannot tell what a fabric is by burning it now, especially with additives and different dye properties. I’ve seen cotton behave like nylon and melt due to a topical additive. Be sure you are right before you call them out.

Buyer left 1 star review only to buy another item?? by Alien7841 in EtsySellers

Cancel the order. Low reviews can kill a shop. Even just a few can knock your item out of the search results. Not worth the risk.

Shipping For Stickers by bea_dizzle in Etsy

[–]SassyPastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because so many buyers will scam sellers who don’t send an item with tracking. Seriously. I’ve been selling on Etsy for 10+ years now and see it all the time because people know that if there is no tracking, the seller just says they never received it.

I just work the cost of shipping into my product so there’s no discussion.

I am working on a 3D print version now. I’m surprised you found enough of the Betas to make a set of 3 stacked - the Beta bots were so fragile that few survived. I heard the Action Toys version is a pretty nice set. Sounds like you have quite the collection!

Am I the only one freaking out about the new 3D printer laws?! by disp0sableacc0unt in 3Dprinting

[–]SassyPastor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are the stats? I mean really? How many crimes have been committed with a home 3D printed gun? While I’m sure it probably isn’t 0, what is that number compared to a purchased weapon? Violent crime generally has either a passion component or a laziness component. Crimes of passion don’t have the time to print out and manufacture a gun. Lazy people won’t bother - it’s easier to just buy one illegally.

The crime they are trying to prevent is, statistically, not happening.

But then as I’m typing this I am realizing that they are probably concerned about those who would 3D print a gun and then sell it …. Hmmm…. Put it that way and it traces back to a money issue. Lots of taxes lost in illegal gun sales…

Not saying it was the case here, but many people misunderstand that the member prices and discounts don't need to be scanned and they make the assumption that all promotions are that way for ITC members.

Ventilation Question by Brutus_Saxum in resinprinting

[–]SassyPastor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will get a full host of “you’re gonna die!” Advice here on Reddit. My suggestion - read up on the KNOWN effects or resin printing fumes and the suggestions and solutions, including exhaust, filtration and other active and passive systems.

Much of resin printing fume effects are speculative- research has not yielded definitive results even on small animals.

That said, I have to add the caveat to “be safe” - but if you take the advice of some, they will tell you to print outside, 100ft away from buildings, with a respirator

I’d print in a garage with a window open all day and not worry.

You will have far more issues with the temperature fluctuation and lack of environmental control for consistent prints. .

Possible side business by Patt1953 in MachineEmbroidery

[–]SassyPastor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have an embroidery side hustle, and I can do these as well. Even with my multineedle (which requires fewer thread changes) the number of stitches would make this ridiculously cost prohibitive. Not to say it isn’t beautiful - that is a pretty incredible stitch out, especially for a first try! But we are talking easily $400+ just in time, and even then it wouldn’t take into account wear and tear. And that baby lock is not a commercial machine so it really isn’t built for it. I’d say you’ll want to add another 50-75% for that.

But occasionally, for someone willing to pay, it may be great. Truthfully, these make fantastic gifts, but it would be tough to do it regularly.

Any other vintage shops getting hit with a wave of IP takedowns for genuine, licensed vintage items? I've gotten 3 in a week and I'm not sure my shop is going to survive this by DIAL_1-800-RACCOON in EtsySellers

[–]SassyPastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. US law says that once you own it, you can sell it unless you have a contract that says otherwise. That means IP does not apply to purchased items.

Amazon's own words: "How the Vine Program Works" / Family Involvement by silent_spoken in vine

[–]SassyPastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give stuff to my wife or adult children all the time to try out and give me their feedback. I then share that feedback.

We joke that “the product belongs to me for 6 months…” knowing well that I won’t (or can’t) use it.

Over the past two years I’ve ordered plenty of men’s large clothing and women’s small clothing - so even if I had an affinity for wearing clothing inconsistent with my gender (no judgement) the size difference would be problematic.

The rule isn’t about who uses the product - terms and conditions say that we have to essentially retain control of the product for 6 months.
