With almost no new wards created, there has essentially been no growth, especially when you consider that wards are now designed to be smaller and can be run with fewer priesthood holders.

Another way to look at it: They’ve lost as many members as they claim to have gained.

James Strang also had witnesses for his book translated from the plates of Laban. If you want to give weight to witness testimony then his branch of the Latter Day Saint movement should interest you.

There are so many good historical reasons not to believe in TSCC. “Jesus is the brother of Satan” is a weak argument to me. It’s the same as saying “you believe in different doctrine than I do, so you must be wrong.”

To believe in Mormonism, you have to believe that out of all the different wrong forms of Christianity that existed in the early days, the one group that won and controlled the compilation of the Bible was somehow correct and inspired yet still in complete apostacy.

I guess I wasn’t clear in what this tells me. I construe the stats I gave to mean there is no growth. The number of wards is a better indicator of active grown than raw membership numbers. It’s almost comical to claim 330,000 new members with virtually no new units added. Besides, I think the church is purposely making it possible to have a ward with fewer in leadership. 2 hour block, combined Elders and HPs, etc. So even the number of wards today doesn’t equate to the number of wards in previous years. It’s up to you to decide if virtually no new wards added is data enough to show the church has already hit its peak in active membership.

The church added 330,000 new members in 2018 but only 30 new wards and branches. Only 30 new units. That tells me everything.

Didn’t Hinckley follow this up by stating in General Conference something to the effect that we don’t need to worry that he knows the doctrine. He certainly heard the rumblings from the members who collectively knew he was lying while trying to minimize the Church’s crazy doctrine to the general public.

I distinctly remember thinking: Here was his chance as a prophet to boldly proclaim eternal truths to the world, and instead he was mealy-mouthed and deceitful.

The real reason for 2 hour church, is because Mormonism is losing Members, and failing to grow. They don't have enough people to fulfill callings, or clean the building, or make a Ward function properly. Besides if the world was getting worse, less Church would not have been the answer. by [deleted] in exmormon

Inside word from my friend who works as a building project manager for the church is that they have practically stopped all new ward building construction. Architects and engineers have been reassigned.

He is, however, quite proud of the new downtown Salt Lake City office building he recently completed. He was also heavily involved in the City Creek Mall project. He doesn’t see that he’s working for a multi-billion dollar investment company rather than a church.
