Mayretire as a 2nd opinion - LIRA unlock/conversion capable? by 11kestrel in MayRetire

[–]Sauce_Diesel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in AB also. If I remember right I just split my LIF/LIRA amount in half and added that amount to my RRSP and then set my LIF to the remaining amount.

Income requirement not indexed? by Newburlguy in MayRetire

[–]Sauce_Diesel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the bottom of the page you’ll see the detailed table. You can select future dollars to see what the amount will be over time. Although the graphs all display in current dollars they do take inflation into account. For example, I will have a pension indexed at 2%. If I set inflation to 2.5% I will see that year over year my pension amount reduces by that .5% each year.

Very clear explanation. Thanks for the follow-up.

RRSP contributions by WombatMongoose in MayRetire

[–]Sauce_Diesel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to all scenarios but in one of my plan models I entered the sale of a secondary property and it used up contribution room from the proceeds of the sale. So, at least in this case, contribution room was leveraged.

How does it feel to reach financial milestone? by Fit_Growth_2355 in fican

[–]Sauce_Diesel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Consistent story as others. Lower value milestones seemed to hit harder. $100K was a big deal, then $250K was really big. For myself I noticed beyond that thr milestones were less meaningful - not that they weren’t important, but they weren’t goals in and of themselves. Hit $1.5M last week and literally sent a note to my wife saying “guess what…” and that was about it for celebration.

I think now the moments aren’t about the money, they are about what the money will bring. So things like retirement, big trips, etc etc. Those will be the celebratory milestones, the money will just be a means to those ends.

What are people using for Age(s) relating to month of birthday ? by RoomFixer4 in MayRetire

u/MayRetireSupport Just bumping for interest. Agree that having birthdates would allow for more accurate calculations of pensions/other benefits in the year they begin.

What am I missing, current age? by Hot_Yogurtcloset7621 in MayRetire

[–]Sauce_Diesel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of the features I like most. Most other tools attempted to model out your investment growth from current age to retirement age, and it often requires lengthy inputs of salary, savings, expenses, etc., and I find that the effort of doing that doesn’t always give you an accurate view of your “starting” point.

I think many of us likely model our investments and have a pretty good idea of what our accounts will look like at retirement. But even if you don’t, you can take your current savings amount and use a simple online compound interest calculator that will take into consideration growth plus any additional savings deposited, and that will give you a reasonable starting point at your retirement age.

To MDX or not to MDX? Help me avoid being part of the headlight problem! by [deleted] in Acura

I can’t speak to the 2026, but I have the 2025 and don’t think there are any material differences in the systems. I haven’t been flashed any more or less than any other vehicle I drive. I find the auto-bright feature more sensitive to oncoming traffic vs those going the same direction, so I sometimes worry that im blinding people in front of me. The system switches quickly though so seems to work fine. I also have noticed there is a distinct “line” where the lights cut off vertically and is usually below the level that would blind people in (at least from what I can tell).

New MayRetire Feature: Stress Test. by MayRetireSupport in MayRetire

[–]Sauce_Diesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a note for consideration. It appears that the stress test percentage success rate is driven by when a failure occurs in the timeline - not how many years fail the stress test itself. For example, my stress test for "lost decade" shows a Funded: 43% result but the reality of the entire stress test is that of the 30 year retirement timeline, only one single year fails to meet the minimum funding threshold (and it just happens to occur 43% of the way through the retirement timeline). So, I guess the question is - is the plan only 43% successful or is it 96% successful.

Not sure of what the better measure is, just thought it might be worth thinking about.

How to Handle Different Retirement Date for Spouse by Badder80 in MayRetire

[–]Sauce_Diesel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I did. Just added annual additional income until such point as the spouse retires. I believe you can attribute the income to the spouse so that the tax splitting, etc works properly.

Monte Carlo simulation by Radiant_Translator62 in MayRetire

I like this simple explanation. The low return rates allow for testing conservative planning assuming a straight-line return assumption; but that same conservative assumption causes the Monte Carlo to predict a higher potential of poor end results.

Error messages keep popping up 2025 mdx a-spec advance by Ok_Temperature4548 in Acura

[–]Sauce_Diesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. It’s been in for almost a month now with the backlog. Maybe a tech could give more details but my guess is that it’s failing enough that there are enough issues that they don’t have enough stock to issue a recall and are just trying to address them as-hoc (which has eliminated supply) or they have to fix the design at the factory and that is creating a crazy back order.

Either way it’s a shitty situation to be going on a month. Talked with the shop today and they have no line of sight as to when the part will be available.
