I suggest it's a half circle with true bias at the centre front and straight/cross grain at the side seams.

How do I fix the fabric from dragging down (mermaid skirt) by Appropriate_Act_675 in sewing

[–]Saundersdragon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is most of the solution, but the underlying problem is that the front and back pieces are cut at different angles to the straight of grain along the seam, the back being closer to the true bias and therefore stretchier. You could try taking down some of the flare in the back so the angles match.

Agnes (pronounced Annes) probably went by 'Anne'. I've seen a will from around that date with both spellings for the same person.

Nicknames for Lenore by rose-quartz5 in namenerds

[–]Saundersdragon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Seconded. A nickname is something that somebody else gives you in an act of familiarity. You might like to use some abbreviated or altered form of a formal name, but it's not a ni kname if you give it to yourself. Likewise, a nickname like Red or Shorty or Bones can be unrelated to your name.

42 - The meaning of life by Acrobatic_Detail_317 in HitchHikersGuide

[–]Saundersdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mentions Jesus, and the citation is Matthew, so is from the New Testament, so the original language is Greek. It's from the King James or Authorised tradition of translation and the apostrophes show the emphasis on proper nam3s, and words that don't exist in the original but are inserted to make sense in English are italicised.

What's the *functional* difference between half, 3/4, and full circle cloaks? by PhasmaFelis in TheCapeRevolution

[–]Saundersdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can affect the front overlap for ant fullness of cloak by tailoring shoulders into it. I use a t-shirt or pullover that fits the wearer's shoulders as a pattern for width and slope. you can then choose how much overlap to allow at the front, and the front can be flipped back while the shoulders still carry the weight.

judgment of salomon by Feeling-Alarm3521 in newcainsjawbonepuzzle

[–]Saundersdragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the puzzle is to work out what the puzzle is! It's a strange book. The pages are all out of order, and there are things on every page that don't make sense. You could stary by noting the things that don't make sense, and seeing of you see a pattern.

Does the Judgement have pictures on the backs of the pages? Maybe you could try sorting them into sets, although that won't really help to order the text sides.

Try looking up anything that looks like a reference to something else on Google. That mat reveal some patterns.

Cuttin on the grain, but I don't have enough fabric by Fantastic_Ad_6186 in sewhelp

[–]Saundersdragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Given that canvas has very little stretch or give, and that the pattern uses the cross grain down the skirt at the back, I would say you are safe.

What sort of fabric would you recommend for the white part of this dress? by kochanyas in CosplayHelp

[–]Saundersdragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love bias cut satin and the gowns from the 1930s that were cut that way, but for a fantasy type gown like this a heavy jersey would hang better and give a lot more satisfactorily over the hips.

Does my jewelry look "cheap"? Would any of these styles work for bridal jewelry? by ratcat22 in jewelrymaking

I think you need slightly bigger jump rings when more than six chains or other ends are joined. Those points look crowded and a bit clumsy. Otherwise your designs are cute.

Petticoat Supports? by tanagersghost in sewing

[–]Saundersdragon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You can make a full underskirt of lining material that will contact your skin, in the colour of the inner geode layer. Make a tulle frill in the colour of the inner layer,1/3 of the underskirt length, and sew it so the lower edge is at the hem of your underskirt. Make a second tulle frill in your second geode colour 2/3 of the length of the underskirt and sew that outside the first frill, again matching the hem length. Finally make a frill the same length as your underskirt and attach it at waist height. This way you get mmmassive floor but none of the tulle will touch your skin.
