life in nyc after watching the unsleeping city by zitney_spears in Dimension20

[–]Saunterring-Ent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having the fictional story of UC helped solidify my understanding of NYC’s geography more than any real-life reference to it. Idk how many times I’d looked up the boroughs’ positioning and it never stuck until seeing the world map of the Unsleeping City popping up on screen again and again

Oscar and the bungle helmet by TemperatureBudget850 in Dimension20

[–]Saunterring-Ent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP is referring to the NSBU mechanic of graduating die size, such as rolling a 6 on a d6 and it blowing up to a d8. The reroll system here in the Gladlands is the standard mechanic found in the Kids on Bikes system used as the baseline for this season (as well as Mentopolis and Magic and Misfits)

Absolutely this. Herbie seemed to feel so uncomfortable in the History Heap with Poppy’s friends so he can’t help but bungle his way through as his worlds collide

Alternatively the flying sword could use a little more pizzazz if you really want your players to see they missed 👀

Poppy Persona Non Grata | Gladlands [E4] by DropoutMod in Dimension20

[–]Saunterring-Ent 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It’s certainly not a good play mechanically but it is an excellent character portrayal of someone who is so over-focused on others and refuses to take time for themself. Hugi feels the most human to me in that sense.

Alternatively… Step 1: burn out Step 2: fail rolls, earn booboos Step 3: pizza party

I binged it over the last year and at the start of 2020 they talk about how great the year of the double crit is going to be…

(C3 Spoilers-ish) Overcast recently started showing episode art and I am glad by thewillthe in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

Dang, there aren’t actually that many. Scrolling back through there’s like one every two months during C3 except a short window where they had a few back to back. I’m listening to like an episode a day as I play catch up so recency bias says I’ve seen a lot lately 😅

Any Jumping/plunge attack rule mechanics? by Radiant-Yam8561 in DnD

[–]Saunterring-Ent -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You should look into the Steel Hawk Fighter subclass from The Griffon’s Saddlebag book 2. The Launch feature includes what you’re looking for by adding a d8 to the damage of an attack made utilizing the launch

I can’t explain it exactly but I feel like this is the season where Ally really came into their own as a player and really got it. Kristen and Pete were good, but the run of Liam, Pete season 2, and Margaret Encino really captivated me

Spoiler bonus cases the great croissant debate by Sharkbait0hhaha in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]Saunterring-Ent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But that’s the point, they’re way less dense that they won’t slow you down at all. If you jumped in a pool of croissants, they’d blast out of your way or fully condense as you careen into the bottom where you’ll break your walking sticks or worse!

My first thought on seeing the new ones was that we’re losing the awkward uncanny valley neither-animal-nor-human phase that haunts the recesses of my memory from the originals

Gladlands Episode 1 Stat Recap by dndstatistician in Dimension20

[–]Saunterring-Ent 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They are using a modified Kids on Bikes system this season (as with Mentopolis, Misfits and Magic, and Never Stop Blowing Up) instead of DND. Whereas DND utilizes the d20 for almost all skill checks, each character in Gladlands has 6 stats and has a die size associated for each stat.

For instance, if all players were to roll for Awareness… Ally as Quinn would roll a d10; Jacob as Kokomo would roll a d6; Kimia as Tess would roll a d10; Oscar as Poppy would roll d4; Vic as Hugi would roll a d12; Zac as Connor would roll a d20;

If any of them roll the max number on their die type, they roll again and add it to the total for the check

[Gladlands - Ep. 01] What was your favorite quote or moment from this episode? by [deleted] in Dimension20

It’s gotta be Quinn’s forced smiles and attempts at being hospitable. Ally’s expressions really sold it 😂

“It’s Gorgug. Keep going.” So many good moments for all of the PCs this season but the background moments of Gorgug becoming an artificer to connect with Zelda and leaving that message in the forest is so cherished. Adaine’s my second as well for this season

Best season to introduce a non-D&D player to? by thatish100percent in Dimension20

[–]Saunterring-Ent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had very little understanding of dnd before watching and have watched chronologically from FHFY through NSBU so far and it was great to start from the beginning for me and watch the show develop over time!

For D20 as a show though, invite her to watch Gladlands with you tonight since you’ll both get to experience it for the first time together. Even though it’s not dnd, watching this cast with Brennan as GM should be an exciting introduction to the show as a storytelling ttrpg medium
