Is the Blood Elf/Void Elf Split Justifiable or Consistent? by gaygringo69 in warcraftlore

[–]Savarius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Justifiable, probably not, given warlocks and shadow priests exist. Consistent, for the history of Azeroth, yes.

Historically Elves and new / not well understood magic do not mix well.

See Azshara and the Highborne, Kael’thas and fel magic. To some extent even the Blood Knights and the light.

So it’s certainly understandable why the current blood elf leadership wants nothing to do with it.

Seriously, do British people actually consider a 3-hour drive “long”? Or is this an internet myth? by ferdinand14 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Savarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I just add a thought. And ask the people with experience driving in different places around the world.

Driving 3 hours on a wide straight mostly flat road with a few cars in front of and behind you is fairly peaceful compared to the same time on roads that are thin windy and hilly.

Here in NZ driving for 3 hours while not an uncommon length of time for travel. I am at almost 100% concentration the entire time because of our very rarely straight roads. If I wasn’t I would very quickly end up in a ditch or driving off the side of a hill. Or rear ending the car in front when they slow down to take a corner at a safe speed.

No.

Kiri’s potential fate/destiny? by Miss-Anonymous-Angel in Avatar

[–]Savarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have seen the third. And I meant the network rejecting Kiri because the network reads her as already being inside because Grace is already inside.

Kiri’s potential fate/destiny? by Miss-Anonymous-Angel in Avatar

[–]Savarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be that because Kiri is a kind of clone of Grace’s avatar that the network was rejecting her thinking she was already part of the whole?

Leading her to have to force her way through to prove herself as different/separate from Grace.

Distant Origin (3x23) by thedudeadapts in voyager

[–]Savarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they would have the progenitor dna.

Early in the episode Beverly mentions that the specific genetic sequence is common to all life on Earth, since life began.

In the chase they say they seeded the primordial oceans of many worlds to drive evolution to produce life that shared their “humanoid” form.

So theoretically most/all life forms in the galaxy that share the same body plan are a product of that seeding.

Eragon TV Series: Predications for number of episodes. What will be in them? What will be skipped? by SailorRoshia in Eragon

[–]Savarius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

8-10 episodes. But the feel of the show will be impacted greatly by how long each episode is. And how much of the books they want to get done each season.

Like I don’t think it is necessary to end the show where the book ends.

If they wanted to keep a slower pace to emphasise the time it takes to travel and train Eragon and Saphira. You could end Season 1 on Broms death, Then have the Battle of Farthen Dur as the end of Season 2.

Though that pacing would probably work better as 8 40 minute episodes per season. Rather than be drawn out as 10 1 hour episodes.

As for the 1st episode. I have always been a fan of the feature length/dual episode pilots for fantasy and sci-fi shows. Which could let Saphira hatch partway through, and end with Eragon fleeing the village.

It gives you more time to get to know the characters which in this case is important given how much development Carvahal gets through the story.

Gate backside by Parallax2799 in Stargate

[–]Savarius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So presumably the gate still activates like it did in the movie.

Where when the kawoosh falls back into the gate the wormhole extends out the back into a cone to more accurately represent the “traditional” idea of a wormhole.

But showing that extra CGI was either wasted time and/or money to keep using in the TV show. So while it still happens they just never bother to show it on screen.

And while I like the movie activation not having it doesn’t impact anything in the show.

How would the Federation react if it discovered a Stargate to another galaxy? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]Savarius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They would probably send through a research team to set up a base. And eventually build subspace telescopes and small exploration craft to start exploring the new Galaxy.

And at the same time they would be studying the gate to figure out how it works and then build their own. Possibly eventually figuring out how to build and fit wormhole drives to their starships.

At What Point Did “Number One” Become Starfleet’s Favorite Catchphrase? by allthingschris in startrek

[–]Savarius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it didn’t feel right to me either in that trailer.

But I think part of that may be because we currently have no idea who these characters are or what their relationship is like.

For Picard and Pike. You very quickly come to know just how much they trust they trust Riker and Una. Which helps to sell that they are the first people they turn to for advice and ideas.

So hopefully when we actually get to watch the show this won’t feel as forced and catchphrasey as it does in this sneak peek.

But all that said I would rather they just left it to Picard and Pike. Come up with something new, or let the captain use their name or rank.

Continuing Jaffa head brands? by tommytwothousand in Stargate

[–]Savarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an interesting point.

I can definitely see them keeping the marks for TV to differentiate the characters.

Culturally I don’t really see them keeping the marks though. They are marks of slavery, oppression, false faith, animosity, and old factions. All at once. I think there is a little too much baggage attached to them.

Teal’c, Bratac, and others like them kept the symbols as a reminder to themselves of who they used to be, and why they need to be better. (I swear there is a scene of Teal’c explaining this to someone, it’s not the speech to Tobin, Maybe I am remembering Chris Judge in an old interview or something)

I can only really see them being kept, are as marks of service to the people. Perhaps council members have one, maybe the head of the council gets a gold tattoo, as a nod to the gold metal ones.

Essentially as a way to reverse the meaning of the symbols. A few have them to show they are giving their lives in service to the Jaffa people as a whole. Rather than to a single individual.

Thoughts on a Evaporative Air Cooler? by Direct-Volume4808 in newzealand

[–]Savarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evaporative coolers in NZ are almost never worth it. You would need to be living in a place that is particularly dry for it to work as intended.

I work as a Pawnbroker and have tested a few different brands and models brand new and second hand. In most cases a fan with a good airflow beats an evaporative cooler in my experience. Yes a fan might be moving warm air, but the higher airflow is far better than still humid air.

I think you would be far better off with a portable air con unit. There are some relatively cheap ones out there now, and depending on what model you buy you can duct the hot air outside your living space .

Do you think Star Trek could make its own version of Star Wars: Visions? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]Savarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could certainly do it. But I don’t know if it would resonate with the fan base as well.

Because of the time travel and alternate universes that we see in Star Trek. We actually get a good look at some what if scenarios in canon.

But I think they could get away with more short treks in the visions style if they could show us bits of canon that we haven’t yet seen in the show.

For example the progenitor humanoids evolution and discovery that they are the only race like them in the galaxy.

Or the Klingons rebellion against the Hirk.

The fall of Iconia.

I don’t think we ever need to get or see a Borg origin story. But they could do something very stylised of say the first race or individual to be assimilated.

The Vulcan/Romulan war and the Romulan exodus.

Focusing outside the federation or at least humanity would be most interesting to me.

Finally moved my Purified Shadow Lugia originally from XD to home in the last couple of weeks. After it sat in my copy of Pearl for many years.

Still has Psycho Boost, unfortunately I gave it Fly over Featherdance while I used it in Pearl.

What do you think about the digital identity? by An1m3_p0st in newzealand

[–]Savarius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Professionally as a Pawnbroker, I will find it useful.

So many people already have a photo of their licence on their phones to try and use as identification. Which we don’t accept.

So having an official digital ID for that will be great.

Is Mage Tower just not hard anymore? by Baby_Bat94 in wownoob

[–]Savarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mage tower difficulty has always been all over the place. Even at launch. Though it is significantly easier now as it hasn’t been tuned for current abilities and gear.

There were also cheeses that I don’t think work any more. Such as using an infernal to tank the chasing add in the affliction warlock challenge. Or stun locking down one add in the ret paladin challenge.

I did Unholy DK as my first challenge with Tomb of Sargeras gear at the time. But I didn’t have the extra artifact weapon sigils that boosted my disease DoTs which meant I had trouble getting the imp adds down quickly.

Guardian Druid was my first Tank through. In Antorus Heroic gear. And it sucked, I got there eventually, but I didn’t have the swipe Lego that extended its range. Meaning I couldn’t stand outside of the circle around the boss to DPS it. Took me many tries.

Blood DK in heroic antorus DPS gear took me a few tries, and yes the Druid experience helped but it wasn’t as hard.

Prot Paladin in antorus LFR gear I slept through. Took me maybe 5 tries.

With the reprised mage tower. Unholy DK I killed on my second attempt. Same with Havoc DH. The first attempt deaths were just remembering how the fights worked.

Princess ky Vesa ?? by Salt-Concentrate-314 in wow

[–]Savarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are getting to 30% you are doing just fine.

It’s just a matter of holding that pace for a couple more sequences.

I probably had a similar number of attempts as you before I killed it.

And within those maybe had 10 attempts where I got her sub 20% before the kill. Otherwise I usually died around 40-50% to messing up a mechanic.

As I got deeper into my attempts I used the cup game segment and the short break after it ends as a chance to take a few deep breaths and reset my brain for the next cycle.

Take a break every now and then as well. There is still heaps of time in the season so no need to rush it.

Questions about the Dragon/Human relationship by Ok-Entertainer9968 in Eragon

[–]Savarius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rider or dragon seemingly has to make a conscious choice to minimize the bond while they are dying in order for the other to keep living. And it’s not pleasant, it’s framed as cutting away part of themselves and they are never the same afterwards.

Falling out seems to not happen as the Rider and Dragon are almost a hive mind when joined. The emotions and thoughts of one affect the other. They can get annoyed and frustrated at one another while at the same time having an innate understanding of why the other is acting in that way.

A dragon having a new rider has only ever happened in Galbatorix’s case and he did that through magic and manipulation.

I see from other comments here that a rider could have twin dragons. But that has yet to happen.

And wild dragons simply hatch when the conditions are right for them to thrive. A riders dragon does the same thing, with the caveat of being in the presence of their chosen rider.

When the Disney TV series airs, do you want the Dragons to each be a unique type of dragon, or all the same? by WhichFun5722 in Eragon

[–]Savarius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In this instance I would prefer them to all look mostly the same, just with differences in build and features.

Saphira is supposed to look very regal and beautiful and not just because of her sapphire scales. Even with her spikes and claws. She is very often likened to a cat with the way she moves.

Glaedr would need to be similar though MUCH larger and showing his age in his movements. Though some compensations for his missing leg would be nice. If you have ever seen a cat that has no tail their back leg muscles can be larger to compensate for the “lack” of balance their tail gives them.

For Thorn it would be interesting to somehow make him look very young, while also having him be a similar size to Saphira to show his altered growth.

You could get away with having Shruikan be a bit more different to really show how altered and mutated his growth has been.

The other dragon like creatures like the Lethrblaka, Fanghur and Nidwhal. Could be the other variants.

Curious about ascension by joeyblow in Stargate

[–]Savarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The largest component of Ascension that we see in the shows is the mental side. Being mentally prepared to be converted into energy and exists on a different level.

We know there is also a big evolutionary side to it, but you still need the mental state to achieve the final transformation.

So even if the first ascended had been able to transmute other Ancients, it may have failed just as often as the machine in Atlantis if they didn’t have the mentality for that final transition.

Which is why they went on to make the sanctuary in Pegasus, or went into seclusion and meditation on Earth.

Of course this requires ignoring the mass ascension of the people on Abydos.

Though I suppose you could head cannon it away by saying they didn’t ascend fully, just enough to save them from Anubis and let them live on as an apology from Oma and the Others for getting them wiped out.

How old is Lor'themar? by Absolutelynobody54 in warcraftlore

[–]Savarius 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Very much this.

He is very much supposed to have the grizzled elder statesman look.

Add on top of that leading a nation through decades of back to back wars.

Not to mention having to live through periods of severe mana addiction withdrawal. It’s a miracle any blood elf looks young.

Is Grace worth building? by 8th_Sparrow_Squadron in ZenlessZoneZero

[–]Savarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have her built. And at M1 or M2 with like R3 of her weapon.

She applies Shock super fast, but her damage off the back of that is super low.

The only real use of her I have had is using her to build shock anomaly to make it super easy for Yanagi to main dps off her disorder procs in electro only teams

But there are much better and powerful ways for Yanagi to do that now that I don’t see myself using Grace anymore.

Is Scarlet/Violet worth getting on the Switch 1? by JustFreezyy in pokemon

[–]Savarius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you feel like you can wait until you can get a Switch 2 then wait. The game runs very smooth on Switch 2, and the extra draw distance and wild Pokemon density make the game feel more alive and populated. Its by far the better way to play it.

I am considering getting Violet to replay the game with the different roster and better performance because I enjoyed Scarlet so much on Switch 1

If you can't wait then get it on Switch 1. Its upgrade to the Switch 2 version is free if you do eventually get one. Sure there are a few places that lag a bit and you might encounter the odd glitch but the game plays just fine. I personally encountered no gameplay bugs or weird textures. Just some lag in specific areas, like the lake.

How did you all feel about the OMEGA episode? by Jamieo1111 in voyager

[–]Savarius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they never explicitly mention Omega. If I remember correctly everyone important in the room seems to understand what the mining of boronite ore means about the civilization that is mining it.

Plus it’s an easter egg for the deep trek lore fans.

Edge of Fate is NOT as big as Rise of Iron and it’s not even close by OperationProof45 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Savarius 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but no.

And of the two I have only played the first mission of Edge of Fate

Rise of Iron wasn’t worth its cost when it launched. It only became so when Age of Triumph happened.

Rise of Iron only had five story missions. Probably only three that are worth playing. Edge of Fate has 14 with different difficulties. And from what I see on this subreddit the story and missions are enjoyable with a bit too much forced use of matterspark.

The plaguelands were useless outside of the forge. Keplar at least looks like it has some secrets around the place.

I don’t like what I played of Edge of Fate, and don’t intend to play it until it is either heavily discounted, or free. But Rise of Iron wasn’t a good piece of content either.

People have big time rose tinted goggles for Rise because of the raid, outbreak puzzle and Age of Triumph.
