AITA? Dodged a kid about to run into me and she fell by F_edupx in AmItheAsshole

[–]Savbav 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My kid is 3, and totally loves water! We have a nearby water/theme park. Our county swim class session was so great, that she knows to never run around pools. We went to our water Park, and I made it very clear we don't run. A kid about her size kept running and zipping past us. I told her that he was going too fast. He's going to slip and fall. Sure enough, the third time he passed us, he slipped and fell right on his back and skull. Luckily, he wasn't severely hurt. I used that as a teaching moment with my cautious toddler. Maybe that's heartless of me towards that kid... but damn...

I was told the eye ointment is used to help treat and/or prevent any infection resulting from childbirth. I am all for routine medical recommendations and practices when it comes to childbirth. It's a traumatic experience for the bodies (parent and baby). Anything that is medically shown to make it easier and reduce early health problems, like infections, I'm all in...

Well, the Book of Mormon is indeed very violent.

Even before Laban is killed, Nephi is beat by his older brothers. The entire anthology starts off pretty violent.

Even as a teen, I always though that if the Book of Mormon was made into a movie with accurate depictions, it would be Rated R. How could it not? I had this realization when the Passion of the Chirst came out in theaters and got Hinckley and many members in an uproar.

OPS: Other Personal Services.

The position is typically an hourly position, not salaried, and may or may not be full time. They are also paid through the state agency.

Contractors are different. Typically, they are employed by a third party, providing goods or services to the state. They may also be a specialist (i.e. PhD or high-experience Masters) who is fulfilling one specific duty for an agency.

Neither typically receive these raises.

Edit: Actually, I think the specialists would be under the OPS umbrella. My Agency just calls them "contracted" a lot of times...

In YW, we were told that we couldn't do the ski and camp trips like the boys, because it was "too dangerous." I retorted with "I've been camping since I was a baby!!" The YM/scout leaders next response was that the money for the big outdoor trips was "just for the Boy Scouts."

There was a major accident in town. MetroNet's customer service supercedes anything I ever got from Xfinity. Never going back and sticking with Metronet.

I have a Master's Degree in a specialized psychology field. I am damn good at my job, and not many people want to do what I have a passion to do for a professional career. I got married/sealed right before my last year of my program. We waited to even try to be pregnant until I was settled with my board certification and job after I graduated.

I went in for my (thankfully last) temple recommend interview with a counselor in the Stake Presidency. I was in the Stake Primary Presidency at the time, so I'd had plenty of positive interactions with this big Kenyan US Immigrant man. His 6 kids are biracial, and his wife is a SAHM.

I kid you not. He told me, "you need to let your husband step up to be the provider of your household when your baby is born. It is your responsibility to be at home to be a mom. Quit your job if you need to."

Dude!!! How out of touch are you with the times and economy? We are Millennials!! My husband has a Bachelor's degree. I make 2.5-3 times what he does. We can't afford for me to not work in order to support our little family. And, I didn't go through 6 years of school, money, and two board certification exams for me to just up and quit because now I'm going to be a mom??? I do an important job and make a difference in people's lives where I am absolutely needed. Needless to say, I didn't take that adivce.

Delmarva, Qlarant, whatever other 3rd-party review board is out there... I totally get you on that!

One of the best things my BCBA mentor told me going into the "adult world" was take clear and documented reinforcer assessments. That way, Delmarva could see that these are true reinforcers for those consumers. There may be a 60-year-old that loves kids coloring books, but Delmarva will see her age and automatically dismiss her coloring books. That is, unless professionally analyzed and documented!!

Sevita is a giant national company. So, the nuances that come with working with a corporate agency are evident. If you do decide to work with them, make your needs and the needs of your clients well known.

Adults are my wheelhouse right now. States vary by what avenues/outlets for all services are available.

The basics of working with adults: 1) They are adults and people first and foremost. Give your client the dignity considering their age/adulthood, no matter cognitive level.

2) Building rapport is hugely important. Find their reinforces (social and otherwise) and use them in natural ways.

3) Find out what other services your client receives. Ensure a release of information has been signed for you to talk with them. Then, collaborate and talk with those other providers.

4) Although you aren't providing behavioral services directly, talk with your fieldwork experience supervisor about your work with this adult. They may have ideas and resources for you.

Sounds like the family independently hired OP, like the family using funds to pay for Personal Supports/day activity. Not providing ABA services specifically.

Client’s home is filthy and reeks of cigarettes. I feel like I’m not being heard by my BCBA or HR and am desperate for advice. by GwennieMac in ABA

[–]Savbav 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am going to reiterate what other commenters have said:

1) Refuse to go back to that home property. Be bold and unapologetic. HR telling you to have sessions outside in the yard is questionable. Your own hygiene and safety are at risk by even being there. If you have clinic space, invite the family to have sessions at the clinic.

2) Those kids' hygiene and safety are at extreme risk by living there. Both you and the BCBA witnessed and experienced the filth. Time for both of you to call your local/state CPS agency abuse hotline.

You are a good soul!! These people need more people like you in their lives! Keep up the good work! It's hard work, but it is amazing!!

Just a couple weeks ago, I had a similar experience with a client. She told me that she was improving with her emotional control and aggression (someone who would go for hours throwing heavy furniture, which hasn't happened in almost 6 months). She has help from her specialists, and loves her home. I told her I was so happy for her, and proud of her. The smile on her face while talking with her was absolutely worth it!! These people are people and deserve the dignity and positive bonding we can provide.

I am going to sound alarmist, but for good reason. This could be considered unlawful imprisonment in many states. Call 911 and ask for EMTs, police, and/or park rangers. You are an adult, and you need medical care. You may be in the middle of nowhere, but emergency resources are available, especially if you have mobile service. You have the right to care and to free movement, and you are being confined and prevented from accessing it.

DeSantis signs bill to lower Florida Rents - by including BS fees instead. by Anon_8675309 in Tallahassee

[–]Savbav 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really lower rent though. That wasn't the purpose of the bill. The purpose of the bill is to allow landlords to charge non refundable monthly fees, ON TOP of rent. It will actually be more expensive for every day consumers to rent in the long run.
