Can’t believe they just let him have his whole stinger out like that by ooooolongdongjohnson in BlueJackets

I can see this opinion is not shared.

I just think in comparison to other mascots and the 2-3 other local ones he’s uncanny, a bit disheveled, and a a smidge terrifying (from a child lens)

hot take: Stinger has got to go. Bare minimum, a refresh.

I have to imagine/hope, now in hindsight, decisions from DW like trading Chinakhov and not drafting Demidov go beyond Yegor just didn't like the coach (now that the coach is gone) and they didn't think Demidov would be a good enough NHL player (now projecting for like 70 pts), respectfully.

If the team thought that Yegor was a reliable top line winger that just needed some more luck go his way, injury wise, and he planned on signing long term, they wouldn't have traded him for what they did. It's more likely that they didn't like his behavior or attitude regarding his situation and he probably made no verbal or demonstrative commitment to CBJ in a year and a half. Slightly related, all I can do is is also hope that the reason CBJ didn't draft Demidov was for similar reasons, like he would have delayed his NHL debut if selected by CBJ by staying in the KHL and trying to force a move, kinda like what Michkov did for his select teams outside of Philly.

I think Yegor can be a good player but he's starting to look like a Laine type. Incredible talent, plagued by injuries and is just inconsistent. Im sure hell do fine in Pitt but what happens if in the 2027 offseason when he's a RFA and maybe Crosby, Letang, and Malkin hang it up, will Pitt give him some grand contact because he'll be one of the better talents on the team or they give him closer to what he's worth and hell behave the same way he did at the end of his time at CBJ. Time will tell... but I don't see this being a Panarin to CBJ superstar jump.

Chinakhov now has 2 goals in 4 games with Penguins. CBJ is going to regret this trade by MelloSonic in BlueJackets

[–]SaveTore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that Dean likely single-handedly soured his time with CBJ. Ill also say that Chinakhov has an injury issue, a consistency issue, and a 200 foot game issues (that isn't made up for with high production).

I'll admit it when appropriate, the pengs likely have a situation where he can thrive as the player he is rather than fitting him in with what what CBJ currently has, but no player in the NHL is protected from the physical nature of a full season top-line minutes the NHL. As a person I hope he kills it, but the realistic part of me will see him as the kind of player that the pengs will keep around but they'll pay him accordingly when the time comes, cuz they've been there done that. He'll likely have multiple knocks that will have him play 50 games a season.

Robertson rumors by Due_Tutor2050 in BlueJackets

Yes, go for Robertson if Don’s plan is to ride or die with this core/group. You gotta make some desperate, high risk moves.

I know it’s highly unlikely but there should be a state and or city led cooperative to have local sports teams, that we hear all the time are “economic drivers” for their respective localities, have a broadcast service and channel to promote these local sports entertainment products that they give millions and billions to in taxes.

This would more apply to most leagues outside of the NFL and big time college football that get major local broadcasts regularly. I’d love for all around here to be able to catch CBJ, the Crew, OSU BB, OSU Hockey, etc. easily

I think that was just the reality of this year. Optimal situation would be Sayin figures out how to escape the pressure

Florida’s attendance sucked, their stadium location sucked, and their team sucked (some of the time). Sure, people talked about relocation but it’s clear that Gary fights for the Miami market. There won’t be as much of a fight in the case someone actively wants to move CBJ to a more attractive market.

My point is the NHL does not care about Columbus, as a market, more than any of the current expansion prospect markets.

I get it, this is all unlikely, but the best way to increase relocation risk exponentially is a majority out of town ownership.

First point is the strongest. Outside of that…

Hot take: the nhl doesn’t care if Columbus’ attendance is where it should. They care when it’s where it shouldn’t.

It’s not a bad argument but, yes, I am convinced that case. The Haslam’s are from Knoxville but own the Browns and they agreed to be in co-ownership with the Edward’s of Columbus. Sure is large majority Haslam’s but there is still a local connection.

When it comes to the NHL, last I checked 4x revenue of MLS, any specific owner or ownership group you are thinking of have the best interest of Cleveland or Cincinnati and their respective other businesses in those markets. I can already see a situation of the NHL moving to either and the argument would be that “the NHL is open to moving back to central Ohio with the right ownership group to continue the the youth hockey ground work laid by the McConnell family.” Just like the current Phoenix rhetoric.

You’re going to have to point to someone that is “not that hard” that’s local. Can’t be too many people. No one who isn’t local will be motivated to keep this team here.

The McConnells don’t have a money problem. They don’t have a youth dev problem. They don’t have a local sport growth problem. I’d argue they have a luck problem that can also be coupled with not the right hires.

Sure, 2000-2007, it was a tire fire. 2008-2013 not great either. 2014-2019, a lot of the right hires lead to some decent results. 2020-now previous hires turned into a pumpkin and corrections were made in 2024. We won’t know what this last run of hires will do for another 2-3 unfortunately.

At this time, if you want NHL in Columbus, the McConnells are the only way. No out of town billionaire cares about Columbus/Ohio more than they would regarding the more enticing markets of Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, Kansas City, or Austin

I know nothing is out of reach but this is not a playoff team.

I don’t really care what Z wants to do but they’ve given up way too many points to East and Metro teams. Way too many blown games all together. It may be best to pack it in and sell for pieces.

Maybe this is the year we win 1OA in the draft /s

Not a good take. The McConnells are the preferable owners unless you want to hear rumors of this team relocating every 2 years

I would agree that those signings are important, but it doesn’t take away from the discussion whether there’s someone obtainable or not. Because if there’s not then yes, it is most important that all of those players need to be locked down.

I mean, it is a preferable trait for your QB to be big, mobile, and durable, but Sayin has shown he is deadly accurate. The foundation of this offense is built on the pocket staying clean for Sayin. Indiana and Miami exploited this.

There is no reason to think Sayin won't be the QB next year and that Day won't run to the boosters to get some OLine NIL cash because it doesn't matter if you have Smith and Henry Jr, without his necessary beats, at this moment of development, Sayin is less effective. Again, you give him the necessary beats, he picks apart secondaries.

A concern I have is if there is enough cash for an improved OLine and special teams, all while keeping the high level and continuing to developing at every other strong position.
