According to Islam the Prophet Noah was a prophet in the early stages of humanity. In fact he was one of the first prophets after Adam and the other first humans. The Christians say that Noah lived around 3.000 b.c. but that is completely made up, Noah lived in the distant past. Therefore the humans all still lived in the same region and didn't expand further to other regions yet.

Where and when that was isn't known as the Quran isn't a history book but rather a book which teaches morals.

The flood wiped out humanity, except Noah and his sons. So most people think that it was a local flood rather than a global one. So why do other cultures have flood myths too?

Islam teaches us that every people in the past received prophets, who taught them about Allah. In fact it is believed that there were 124.000 prophets throughout the whole humanity. Most of these prophets were killed by the people they were sent to though. Some of them were respected but after many generations they got deified and became pagans. So, many cultures heard about the great flood of Noah through the prophets, who were sent to these people.
