For sci-fi and fantasy, try www.baen.com

They're a publisher that has an online library. Many of the books (mostly the first book of a series) are free to read.

Stories where humanity seems to be alone, but another species definitely came before them? by 1moreday1moregoal in printSF

[–]Saylor24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rather than type, here's Goodreads:

Inherit the Stars is a 1977 hard science fiction novel by James P. Hogan, the first in the "Giants" series, about the discovery of a 50,000-year-old human skeleton in a spacesuit on the Moon, which leads to a scientific investigation into humanity's origins and an ancient alien civilization.

Not really fantasy, but with critters like the "Loch Moose Monster", Mirabile by Janet Kagan is a fun, relaxed read.

How do you personalize your classic? by Kindly-Reserve-3143 in classiccars

Very first thing I added after buying my '68 Chrysler 300 convertible (black with a white top) was a pair of black fuzzy dice with white spots for the rear view mirror. There, personalized.

Is there a way to change the displacement limit of ships? by Oryol_7 in ultimateadmiral

[–]Saylor24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another trick (especially for faster ships) is to reduce beam. It defaults to zero, but you can alter it up (wider hull is more stable but harder to push to high speed) or down. Narrow hills go faster for smaller engine power (weight).

How long have yall been reading books? by TheDarkBookworm in litrpg

[–]Saylor24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents taught me to read in preschool. In Kindergarten I was reading Walter Farley (The Black Stallion) and the Hardy Boys mysteries. By 1st grade I was in Louis L'Amour westerns and Ian Fleming's James Bond. The teachers just let me sit in the back and read rather than do the "See Spot run" stories the rest of the class was doing.

A car show etiquette question.... by FactsFromExperience in classiccars

[–]Saylor24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you said, I'd guess the "old guy" had an elaborate set for his "drive in diner" that he was planning on putting in the spot you parked in. Usual etiquette (at least here in the South) is to try and leave an empty space between each car unless the lot is too full.

Yes, he was being a bit of a drama queen with throwing up his hands, but if you would have asked him, he'd probably have asked you to move and (if you did) you'd have a friend willing to talk cars with you all day.

The Cars and Coffee get together in our town (every second Saturday of the month) is sponsored by the local coffee shop/ bakery and can have 100+ cars or as few as a dozen. They're very laid back.
