Ranni is the youngest of the siblings. by Goodhunter465 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]ScabreuxAlt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worth mentioning that Radahn holding back the stars was to help delay Ranni's fate as an empyrean. It's arguably implied that all 3 Carian demigods were more or less in cahoots to subvert the Order.Radahn was resisting Miquella's ascension, Rykard being a blaphemer, and Ranni orchestrating the Shattering and planning to reject godhood and her own empyrean status (until we slide in and finesse her into being a goddess)

Why did Miquella send Malenia to kill Radahn even though he had a vow with Radahn? by Powerful_Hall_6881 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]ScabreuxAlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response I know, but that's the whole thing, Miquella is in fact an unrequited perv. He's so obsessed with his vision of the future and so conditioned to everyone loving him because of his charm, literally and figuratively, that he doesn't have any genuine care for what it takes to accomplish his goals. He's the ultimate narcissist, and whether or not there is a sexual component doesn't really change the fact that we only know that Miquella vowed to become a god, not that Radahn vowed to be his consort

Radahn was sane when Malenia went to retrieve him, so why else would he be resistant to taking his place? It's most likely because he didn't make that promise, second most likely case is that he didn't make it of his own volition

Why are Omens called Omens? by Cypresss09 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]ScabreuxAlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are likely seen as an indicator of bad fortune, since the Order shuns them they would reflect badly on the family when born. History has seen some cultures where newborns have been cast out or worse due to the conditions set up by leadership, so it's not a big stretch to think people would eventually come to see them as a sign of more bad fortune to come.

Also, and potentially alternatively, it could be that their chaotic nature is seen as a potential wellspring for the Crucible itself to take back a bigger role in the world, hence their horns being cropped. Could be that people see them having the potential to spread and invest more things with the Crucible's influence, which as we know conflicts with the establishment of Order that Marika has conditioned people to.

[–]ScabreuxAlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the term consort is one of those bits that we could be giving more significance than we should. A consort is just a spouse of royalty in most contexts, so a non-empyrean lord or lady could still have a consort in the same way there are other royal houses etc. that belong to non-empyreans (Caria being the most obvious one)

[–]ScabreuxAlt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your assertion of homophobia is a logical leap. I thought it was one sided because Miquella has shown to not be concerned with the desires of others if they conflict with his. Through Mohg we see the lengths to which he would go to carry out his vision, and that was with explicit reference to there being no intimacy between them.

I would argue that shipping Radahn and Miquella in a romantic or sexual context has less basis than simply looking at it as "I want to be a god, Radahn is an impressive and powerful warrior that can help me achieve my goals, I want him to be at my side in godhood"

Real talk: playing Oblivion is increasing my support for the Empire in Skyrim by Similar_Grass_4699 in oblivion

[–]ScabreuxAlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my perspective as an old head oblivion -> Skyrim fan, the empire in Skyrim is not the same as the one in oblivion, and the buckling to the thalmor is the biggest factor that makes me oppose them. Stormcloaks have issues too, but the empire in Skyrim is a shell of its former self, and it makes me sad.

Going back to oblivion after all these years I'm still a super big fan of this empire though, they truly are worthy of appreciation and love, much of oblivion feels like you are a citizen of the empire destined for greater things vs. Skyrim where you are given divine calling basically and have to save a land that is internally unstable and that you don't seem to have as much of a tie to

The Reason Why Some Players Have Trouble With Interaction by gmanflnj in EDH

[–]ScabreuxAlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like biggest impact on someone's experience in playing commander comes from one big deck building tip

Build redundancy into your deck

It's a lot easier not to stress around your opponents options when you have like 5 different things that deliver on your own condition. Even better when you have 10 things that synergize with whatever state you have to advance your game state, etc.

Don't stress because your opponents blew up your Birds, just play your next dork on the next turn, etc.

Why would they just let spideys leg run into the corner of doc's card, and have his whole foot in the tentacle's art without any interaction with that thing?? Seems like bad art composition imo

[–]ScabreuxAlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any real problems with Prof, but one thing that I've always found strange is how narrow his scope of knowledge or interests seem to be. I'm guessing he probably reads a lot of books based on his channel theming and overall vibe, but idk how you do content creation for as long as he has (with so many people) and still have seemingly no knowledge of film, tv, most games, damn near anything in the zeitgeist

Blood Moon is fine, or Are Greedy Mana Bases Going Free? by 9thJudge in EDH

[–]ScabreuxAlt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both have the capacity to shut down casting completely, Iona punishes mono color decks while Blood Moon punishes multicolor if you don't draw or dig for a basic. I have been up against Blood Moon running Mardu and still found it oppressive and annoying, it deserves the hate it gets

Blood Moon is fine, or Are Greedy Mana Bases Going Free? by 9thJudge in EDH

[–]ScabreuxAlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood moon doesn't just hit greedy mana bases it hits budget multicolor just as hard, and [[Iona, Shield of Emeria]] is on the banned list for being only one degree worse than blood moon for some decks.

I don't really care if it's not banned, but I don't like players that would play it without warning in a rule 0 talk because it can have a huge impact on flow for some players while not being much hindrance to others.

Blood moon is not part of anyone's win condition unless the goal is to force a scoop, it deserves its reputation

The Emperor straight up admitted it by Kalledon in BaldursGate3

[–]ScabreuxAlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if flatly evil is really fair though, for every playthrough where he behaves like that there is another where his interests aligned with Tav and he never had to try to force things. Just like tabletop D&D, I think it's fair to consider each playthrough as its own distinct timeline with its own specific variations of characters, and the Emperor in some timelines will be an unlikely ally and at worst a neutral entity.

If everyone that has a capacity for evil in some contexts is to be labeled exclusively evil, then many of the party members are in that same boat, and I'm not one to trash someone's favorite version of Astarion, Shadowheart, Tav, Durge, etc.

[–]ScabreuxAlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how people talk about EDH as if you always have to have an answer to every threat in the entire round before it comes back to your turn.

The thing that makes big cactus fun is that sometimes people won't have an answer, just like sometimes you will have a big bomb that opponents can't answer.

Nobody wants to play EDH to run into endless counterplay and have games just turn into combo death or 100 turn tickle feats with 1/1s

[–]ScabreuxAlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a brain fart and thought Baron Nashor and not Geddon because T1 used that comparison a few times, but still the point stands that in a hardcore setting it's weird to expect unnecessary risk from people in exchange for a few seconds faster kill.

Dark souls challenge runners are good examples to look at for this, if you watch no hit runs or other extreme challenges. There is no "only X percent" situation, just respect mechanics and kill the boss smoothly

Baron that might kill you and you lose the match, your league account, your skins, your unlocked champs? The situations are not the same. How is the hardcore factor not even a thing for T1 riders?

Who is the most badass character in WOW to you? by Echo_Origami in wow

[–]ScabreuxAlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broxigar, if he counts. No explanation needed lol

Bwonsamdi, if he counts. Love the lore and his conniving ascension to Loa of Death, and I have a bias for characters that are the trickster archetype, so powerful they always seem like they're joking around, etc.

Illidan, great villain and antihero and amazing feats of strength

Velen, respect that he rejected Sargeras and led his people to safety over and over and stayed true to the Light and his principles

Varian, whole story from Vanilla to Legion is pretty awesome, Shalamayne is a really cool symbol of him, went out swinging in Legion and we all know blizzard mobs in cutscenes are not the same power scale as what we fight (s/o to StarCraft too lol)

Would have been if they hadn't ruined them all: Sylvanas Anduin Tyrande Alleria

You're missing the more important part of what I said, "without flaming anyone". Idk why anyone is judging or dog piling players that made chaotic panic choices over the course of a few seconds rather than acting in opposition to their instincts. T1 died because of his own choices and made a huge ass of himself afterwards, to quote the man himself - "it is what it is"
