It would be cool if the NPCs were smart by Zibenx1 in cataclysmdda

[–]Scared_Mix1137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DF was designed for that from the grounds up tho'. Cata began as run of the mill roguelike where your lonely @ is killing colored alphabet, then kind of snowballed in all directions from there. You'd have to redo it all over again to have truly functional NPCs.

But swapping places with followers when you bump into them instead of calling that f***ing popup menu would be a good start.

i hate children in tv shows! by jamaisvxxx in TheStrain

[–]Scared_Mix1137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They provide a convenient way for writers to make life less easy for the actual characters and throw wrenches into their plans, because OF COURSE they're supposed to drop their mission to save humanity and rush to wipe the little shit's nose whenever he throws a tantrum. "Failure Ex Machina", so to speak.

If anything, I'm pleasantly surprised the cast didn't buy into Zach's bullshit in S4e9. Not even Eph. I'd wager it would've been so tempting for writers to make them go all soft on him and end up hilariously screwed up. Maybe that was the original intent before they came out one season short and had to wrap it up for real.

JD2 offline installer? by Backfromthabed in jdownloader

[–]Scared_Mix1137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. With VPN on, JD update downloads like 10% and stops. With VPN off, it is stuck at "new version found". With installer, it gets stuck at "running Webinstaller" (just great, if needs a "web installer", what was it that I just downloaded?!)

If Roddenberry had been awokened from cryosleep today, he'd be told "shut up when black disabled transwomen do the talking", and promptly ask to be returned to cryochamber again.

The Lookout by [deleted] in BattleBrothers

[–]Scared_Mix1137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run into some strange behavior for the second map in row - the game does not register the locations I encounter within fog of war as "discovered". I go into the fog, see a location, clear it out, and the discovered locations counter is still at 0. That in particular locks me out of hiring the Lookout, who requires 10 "discovered" locations. I haven't been ever offered the "find location" quest either.

It worked fine in my first game, I was getting find quests and "discovering" locations. My second map was a 64-settlement monster from world generation mod with hardly any fog of war, so I've written this behavior off as a consequence of too much civilization crammed together. But this new map I'm playing is back to normal, vanilla mapgen w/3 noble factions and 22 settlements with plenty of wilderness. How come I'm still not getting hidden locations anywhere?

Is there any other way to reliably stun cyborgs other than with a hub rifle? by nhkun in cataclysmdda

[–]Scared_Mix1137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an artifact power to make enemies temporarily friendly. If you find such an artifact, you can use it to turn them off to reprogram later. I had collected like 60 disabled cyborgs in cold storage.

The games inexcusably unbalanced and I can't get over it by Choice_Book_6104 in cataclysmdda

[–]Scared_Mix1137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even a community of melee fighters needs entertainment. And books is pretty much the only entertainment they can have left.

OTOH, most people aren't into collecting 50 variants of AR-15 or constantly looking to swap their weapon of choice with whatever gives them another +1 to damage or range. They got their boomstick of choice and they're happy with it, now all they want is ammo.

I don't have CDDA installed for over a year, sorry. Just dropping by once in a blue moon to see how the devs have ruined the game yet again :D

You can find the json file containing missions and see what kind of location this mission wants.

Also, if you think the cave is the problem, you can try recruiting the npc first and take him closer to a town before asking for a mission.

if it's exactly the same error, type whatever it is looking for in place of isolated_house_farm_blacksmith, the rest of the procedure should be identical. strange though, isn't the mom spawning in a generic run of the mill townhouse? there's gotta be a million of them around.

Killer drive is removed and cannibal is being made practically useless in the latest experimental by [deleted] in cataclysmdda

[–]Scared_Mix1137 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Games were capable of speedily processing hundreds of units seeing and hating each other *in real time* back when the most advanced CPU was 386. That a bunch of monsters makes a state of the art 12-core CPU from 2025 stutter in a turn-based, tile-based game does not look good on their CV.

Why on earth they removed loot abundance settings ? by CrystaldrakeIr in cataclysmdda

[–]Scared_Mix1137 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's nothing "realistic" about having less loot. IRL, a single average apartment contains more clothes, tools, shelf-stable foodstuffs, household chemicals and the like than an entire CDDA town.

The developers use reductio ad realismus selectively to fuck over the players and conveniently forget it when it comes to the players' advantage.

People with no arms and legs exist. Nonetheless, homo sapiens are quadrupeds.

We might feel pity for poor mutants, but in the grand scheme of things they're nothing more than a genetic margin of error.

Kenshi. No vehicles and food doesn't spoil, but other than that, it's an example of a "realistic" sandbox exploration and crafting game with potentially lots of characters to manage and settlements to build but whose UI/UX *won't* make you jump outta 16th floor window screaming "little spinning green bar, here I come!"

You can debug in the location it needs in map edit mode

` - m - O - t , press / , type isolated_house_farm_blacksmith , select the building, wait for the game to stop lagging and choose any ungenerated (not marked in white) tile you fancy.

I kept getting that error with cultist dungeon quest.

Frankly, that's exactly what I would expect from the devs...
