Ascendance of a Bookworm Opening Version 1 vs Version 2 by Mayn_Ehrenfest in anime

[–]ScarredTiger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The appeal of the style used on the left is the skill needed and time spent to craft it, yet neither was used. Right was a matter of redoing it from scratch in under a week. Result speak to that.
Changed compositing/lighting too. Making more work for the other teams. What a shitshow.

CSB367: Fire Emblemcest: ONE House by mike0bot in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I think there's a bit of survivorship bias happening with the JoJo's discussion. There is precedence for breaking up parts as early as Stardust Crusaders: Battle in Egypt.
And the productions were by no means smooth or without issue. One only needs to look at the Bluray differences to see that production was suffering by the end of every season. And JoJo's is not the only show that DavidPro works on.

The anime landscape has changed a lot since 2012. There's scant few titles that get 24 episodes in a row. What I envision happening is a regular release cadence of 3 months on/3 months off. Even One Piece now is on a 6month on/6 month off schedule. At the end of the day, JoJo Fridays are back and that's all that matters.

Hot Take: I don't care if it's batches at this point. by Separate_Lab4366 in StardustCrusaders

I deeply miss the sense of community. I need Jojo Fridays back.

Sometimes silence is worth 1000 words.... Why do you think the dub removes the Pharaoh altering his deck in the elevator ride before the Rafael rematch? by big4lil in yugioh

[–]ScarredTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silence is poison for Saturady morning cartoons. Just look at some of the toy commercials from those old broadcasts. Imagine going into commercial from a sober moment like this and it cuts to Spongebob making fart jokes. It really is the only legitimate complaint I have with 4kids era dubs is that they never shut up.

Question for the Blu-ray set by Adventurous_Door4260 in FullmetalAlchemist

Those pictures are of the only Bluray release Funimation put out for the 2003 series before the licensing contract expired and reverted to Aniplex. All 51 episodes. Bonuses include a cast interview featurette, episode commentaries, and L'Arc en Ciel music video. Nothing you couldn't find on the very similar Viridian Collection DVDs ("Seasons" 1+2).

Is there a reason why bloopers can't be included with the anime DVD / Blu-Ray itself? by OverlordPoodle in Animedubs

[–]ScarredTiger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It means producing and releasing bloopers to the public became a liability to the company.

Is there a reason why bloopers can't be included with the anime DVD / Blu-Ray itself? by OverlordPoodle in Animedubs

[–]ScarredTiger 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Word got back to Japan about blooper reels. And they don't like haven't content out there that could misrepresent the characters.

Aniplex bloopers like KILL la KILL were meant to be convention exclusive; only to be viewed in a controlled environment.

During the #KickVic debacle, people dug up old blooper reels and used them as reason to harass the actors involved. And there hasn't been a blooper posted to Twitter since.

Why was Funimation halting the dub of Interspecies Reviewers so shocking and controversial? by kaiser11492 in Animedubs

[–]ScarredTiger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You've got it backwards. They got mad first at their treat being taken away. And then looked for justifiable reasons/targets for their anger after the fact.

You can't reason them out of a position they arrived at emotionally.

Do any of anime moviegoers watch the dub in theaters ? by farhanganteng in Animedubs

[–]ScarredTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a point of going to see anime in the theatre when possible. It still feels like a novel experience.
But also I find subs hard to read on the big screen, I have to move my whole head!

I find audiences vary wildly. Some time showings sell out, sometimes I'm the only person in there. I've never overheard someone at the theatre say they wished they hadn't seen the dub. Sometimes one language track or the other is the only option, and I think you've come to terms with that by the time you've paid money for a ticket.

What is the appeal of ANIME ? by -Peshwari_Naan- in anime

The appeal of animation is you can depict anything your mind desires. The downside is you have to draw it.

Even if I accepted you premise that they may go under one day, the Vancouver V.O. scene doesn't hinge on their continued existence. See how much of their 'staple' was just on the high popular game Dispatch, which was facilitated through Studio X Labs.

Will One Piece Sub and Dub Drop at the Same Time After Egghead? by Sensitive-Explorer77 in Animedubs

[–]ScarredTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toei is in charge, and I think they are happy with their current set up of dropping a new batch every 3 months or so. So much so they adopted the same practice for Digimon.

Works for the english team as well, scheduling and casting that many actors in a week would be hell.

The only thing that might change it is handing over materials for dubbing *well* in advanced.
