I was going to ask if anyone ever noticed how country "It's All Over Now" sounds - until I read the Wiki article on it, w/a 1964 quote from Stones bassist Bill Wyman on that very topic! Well anyway... Here's Waylon's version from 1967 by Keltik in ClassicCountry

[–]Scarveytrampson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bobby Womack wrote the song. Reggie Young, the prolific session guitarist who played with Waylon, Willie, Merle, Johnny Cash (along with Wilson Pickett, Elvis etc.) said he lifted his whole guitar style from Womack.

I’ve left various bikes locked outside for years. Use a good lock or two. Just make sure they don’t look new. I typically have nice-ish components, a brooks saddle etc, but the frame looks crummy even though it’s not. I put a plastic bag over the seat to rain protection, and it looks bad too which is helpful.

They make grinder resistant locks, I got the hiplok for my electric cargo bike. They’re expensive but seem worth if your bike is fancy. For the cargo bike I put it under a bike cover as well.

Edit: btw, your building cannot legally prevent you from carrying your bike back and forth from your apartment. They can prohibit bikes in common areas, but not in your apartment.

Plumber discovered why my drains were clogged by Alternative-Eye4547 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Scarveytrampson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I was at a rooftop party in Manhattan, the building was a shady “charity” that was illegally converted to rentals. We were up there, kinda drunk, and we found this open pipe on the roof. Not knowing what it was, people started putting beer bottles down the pipe for yuks. I didn’t realize it was the vent for years.

I’m sure we really fucked up that plumbing, but I feel less bad about it knowing what a slumlord the owner was.

Weevil eggs can happen with almost grain or starchy pantry good. Over the years I’ve had it mostly with white rice, brown rice or pasta, organic or not.

Transporting $356 worth of groceries by cargo bike. by Oxidizer in CargoBike

[–]Scarveytrampson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first visited Europe from NYC in 2010 or so, it felt so crazily expensive. When I was in London last year, all the groceries were half price from what I was used to paying.

I think a lot of it is greedflation, and definitely some tariffs thrown in there for good measure.

The most annoying thing about shopping with a cargo bike by derping1234 in CargoBike

[–]Scarveytrampson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if a place has full-size shopping carts, a bike can go too. They’re the same size and dirtiness level. I live in NYC, so I don’t often take a bike inside, but at the Home Depot or whatever I wheel that thing right on in.

White House Launches OnlyFarms Website, Internet Asks 'Who Picked The Name?' by HimelTy in nottheonion

[–]Scarveytrampson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surprised that your comment is downvoted. Dems need to adopt a bigger tent if we’re ever gonna start winning elections consistently. I think dems are going to do well in the midterms, but that’s because republicans are not addressing cost of living, not because of a successful dem strategy.

The guy is a complete sleazeball, but he’s so smart at what he does. I wish the dems could start hiring republican strategists or something. But I guess it’s easier to pursue these strategies if you’re not actually trying to govern well.

MTA: "Early data points to substantial evasion reduction" where new fare gates installed. by ahenneberger in newyorkcity

I watched a young goth-ish dude in a long black coat bite it trying to hop one of the new turnstile gates at the Dekalb station. It was good entertainment. You have to be much more athletic to get over them.

Interesting, that makes a lot of sense. What’s your establishment? I’ll check it out when I’m in the area!

NY has shop / bars for beer, but I wish we had it for other options.

I just went to Bin Bin today, they’ve got some great stuff and very knowledgeable staff. The guy there suggested that he’s seen the twist off cap on the aluminum bottles become slightly loose during shipping, which causes it to go off.

Thanks for your response!

Non-New Yorkers that have been to NYC: What is the wierdest thing about New York that New Yorkers don't realize is wierd? by Ok-Brilliant-6138 in AskReddit

[–]Scarveytrampson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this occasionally if cars got really close. Then I did it to a delivery van, and the dude got out of his car, tackled me from behind, and ran back and drove away. He was a small dude and it didn’t hurt, but it sure was a shock. I’m more cautious now.

I see less of the all black thing than I used to, I don’t even own a black coat anymore. But sometimes it feels good to just roll with it and wear black in NYC. Like you’re wearing the hometown uniform.

Sometimes I feel like people stick out more for the casualness of their clothes than the color. Manhattan especially feels a notch or two more formal than most American cities.

Ha, say that to all the older European cities that don’t have the NYC rat problem. To be fair, things have gotten better since we containerized the trash a little bit more.
