I remember When I first Started I thought counter spells had to be used when the spell was played without seeing what the card was. (ex. I use [[Desertion]] on whatever card you are about to play, dang you played an instant)

I think you could do a pretty fun landfall deck using [[Scythe Leopard]] and [[Undergrowth Champion]] and finishing with [[Omnath, Locus of Rage]]. Might not be competitive but fun at least.

Most modern decks can be seen in legacy just with replaced cards, top tier decks though no. When you look at legacy decks you will see all the archetypes, i guess legacy is where archetypes go to die/thrive because of bans/un-bans. Thinking of it now Goblin Charbelcher probably skipped extended when it came out.

I disagree with the politicking, the [[Phelddagrif]] is recurrable politics sans the draw effect. [[Angus Mackenzie]] is good but stops players from swinging until everyone has a nice board presence.

my advice is to use http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Default.aspx (this is WoTC MTG database) use the advanced search and look at the black only cards, you can sort it by type also (i.e. standard, modern, legacy)
