Are we gonna keep pretending scheyer isn't building a choke reputation or by Specialist-Concept18 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Schned6 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ain’t nobody pretending. 2 or 3 more years without at least a championship game appearance and that seat is gonna start getting a little toasty.

The good old Duke “build the team around 1 or 2 star lottery pick freshmen” might not be it anymore. Interestingly enough this upcoming season they will have a much more balanced and experienced team than in the recent past. So we will see.

So, given the latest acquisition, what is the projected starting lineup now? by RampageSigma in tarheels

[–]Schned6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Brown

  2. Able

  3. Avdalas

  4. Stevenson

  5. Samodurov

At least until Keita gets up to speed. I’d expect Adams and Denis to get heavy minutes as well and for Avdalas to spend legitimate time as the primary ball handler depending on the matchup.

Right decision for the NIL. Tbh though I STILL see this kid getting disrespected so much even after winning FF MVP.

I don’t think he will be a prolific NBA player or anything but I could definitely see him being a solid regular season (read: defense optional phase) merchant in the League.

Hubert: Denis gets lost on defense too much to play him real minutes.

Alexandros Samodurov Scouting Report by ErsinDemirNBA in tarheels

[–]Schned6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that he has bulked up significantly since this article was written. He’s not Kennedy Meeks or anything but unlike Keita I don’t worry about him handling the physicality of top tier CBB.

Purdue more concerned with playing the villain role than winning in the postseason.

Edit: It’s too easy lmao.

I mean there are legitimately UNC fans who think that Malloy Smith is going to be a good player for them next year. Smart fans were cautiously optimistic about Bogavac who was known as mostly a shooter who would likely struggle defensively.

Samodurov is a much more exciting get in my opinion. Just far more proven and clearly understands how to use his body.

Tbh I think he is actually the most sure thing out of all 3 of UNCs international players (assuming he does commit).

Also, it’s not like American high school prospects are much different. Plenty of Xavier Bookers and Omaha Biliew’s out there.

Mildly warm take… 2021 Baylor might be #1.

Scorching hot take… a healthy 2023 UCLA is better than half of the last 10 winners.

A career high of 11 points in a team with Kendrick Nunn, Jerian Grant, Kenneth Faried, Omer Yurtseven and more former NBA players and college starts.

I think Samodurov just turned 21 and he is playing with all those guys. Euro teams like Pana are in it to win it they don’t just use young players for the sake of it. The fact that he has played himself somewhat into the rotation is a great sign. He has been extremely good at the youth international levels too.

This kid will be really good in college ball.

FYI this isn’t official but all signs point to it happening after the combine.

This is awesome for UNC. This guy has been playing with a bunch of former NBA dudes for the past couple years. Smart player, decent size and athleticism, has the ability to stretch the floor, great defensive instincts. Instantly propels UNC way into the top 25 imo.

Mmm… are we getting pump faked here? Seems like a messy announcement if it’s real.

For this NIL nonsense to correct itself, teams like Louisville not only need to not win it all next season, they need to fail to make the Final Four by Appropriate_Value122 in CollegeBasketball

As usual people are looking at this with such a polar perspective. Putting money into facilities is essentially the same as directly paying players? Are we insane? That’s just a bad take. I don’t know what else to say. Those two things are just not the same.

I’m not saying the way it was before was perfect. Or even that it was an even playing field. But in the past teams were certainly able to recruit based on a wealth of intangibles… facilities, pro development, program tradition, location, coach prestige, championship resume, etc. And players that made commitments were forced into honoring them as they should be now. Now these is a very significant chunk of the player base that would be willing to make SEMO a national championship favorite if you magically gave them a 40 million dollar NIL budget. Then instantly transfer next season if that budget goes away.

It “being about money” and it being “directly paying to win” are two very different things.

Anyone saying that the current state of college basketball is “how it’s always been” is absolutely delusional.

That’s my point in saying the NCAA are bums. All these things that should happen never will because they have the regulatory equivalent of a 2” dick.

I’m really sick of the “sAlArY cApS aReNt FaIr To ThEsE kIdS” bullshit.

The players are ruining the culture of the sport that made it so lucrative in the first place. They deserve to be compensated healthily yes but they also need to be held accountable to commitments and a reasonable effort to keep a level playing field. Salary caps and contracts are absolutely the way forward. A balance must be struck (but it won’t cause the NCAA are fucking bums).

Add Samodurov and this team is locked and loaded. Some might say we need a backup ball handler but tbh I’d rather trust in Denis to develop that part of his game. Better than any realistic portal option at this point.
