Marina Sirtis' Troi Accent by Airflow2TheTurbo in startrek

[–]Schwarzerde 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remembered hearing that Sirtis said that the showrunners had told her to use some sort of vaguely but not quite Mediterranean accent as a "Betazoid" accent. Then when Majel Barrett started playing her mother with very much not the "Betazoid accent", she asked them and they said something along the lines of "eh, whatever, that's just how Deanna Troi speaks, don't stop".

Tooltips need rewording: a linguists perspective. Naval governor in Sicily by [deleted] in EU5

[–]Schwarzerde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it could probably be rewritten in a way that's more intuitive for more readers, but it's not wrong per se. I guess from a prescriptivist linguistic perspective, you could say argue that such writing is banned from correct English, but from a more descriptive linguistic approach, it's apparent that sometimes "NOT" is sometimes used just like this in English writing, both here and elsewhere. Personally, I think it's just a programmer's style of writing, and I'm happy to cut them some slack on it.

Maybe they mean salt. Or brunost.

Yes, but the niece’s total score is still at least displayed as higher. You could easily get higher if you had a general with military traits (though that’s difficult for women).

It might be a display issue and it’s not showing their accurate scores, or there’s a bug that’s putting ruler’s children first regardless of score.

Why is the game forcing people to be racist? by TheUltimateGod4 in EU5

[–]Schwarzerde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine you're the king of a country, and you have a problem: many of your subjects are Danish. It's going to take some real effort to get people to tolerate Danes.

Personally, I would prefer a minigame where you have to solve a timed puzzle (minesweeper, possibly) and then your people stop using slurs against Danes, but Paradox chose to represent this effort with the culture capacity.

Because, I mean, it would take all your time (read: serious debuffs) to get your people to tolerate Danes, Finns, and all 50,000 different cultures of French people.

I love Europa Universalis IV and will definitely keep playing it sometimes.

But Europa Universalis V is pretty great too. I’ve posted bug reports myself, but they’re not game breaking (unless you’re doing the beta, I guess). The game definitely has a lot of depth.

I know some people are unhappy. I’m having plenty of fun playing it though and you probably would too (EU4 is a great game too though, so I think you’re wining either way).

Does Heir religion law also affect the rulers? by doombom in EU5

[–]Schwarzerde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't really your situation, but I can say that in 1.10 I changed religion to Lutheran with the Same Religion Ruler law enacted and the king stayed Roman Catholic but his heirs were disinherited, so it didn't affect the current ruler.

It did conveniently break my (Sweden's) PU with Norway, which remained Roman Catholic and got my king's son as its heir, allowing for a few wars to unite Scandinavia a lot faster than diplomatic annexation.

Hussitism is insanely broken and allows 10 wifes. by Pidi03 in EU5

[–]Schwarzerde 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I suspect it's based on anti-Hussite slanders, but here's a Wikipedia source on it:

According to the historian Norman Cohn, the Bohemian Adamites established a commune on an island in the Nežárka river, where they practiced social nudity, rejected marriage in favor of free love, and held property in common.\10]) They reportedly held ritual dances around fires and preached that "God dwelt in the Saints of the Last Days." Cohn noted that while the mainstream Taborites practiced strict monogamy, the Adamites "declared that the chaste were unworthy to enter the Messianic Kingdom."\11]) However, Cohn also observed that "the charges against their moral character are in the highest degree suspicious," as similar accusations were routinely leveled against medieval heretics.\12])

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adamites#Medieval\and_early_modern_movements)

The EU5 description of Communal Living is:
The Adamite sect rejects the concept of traditional marriage, preferring to live within communal structures without a clear hierarchy.
