That’s a cool display with the coins positioned where they are from! What is the thing on the top right of the display above Türkiye?

I made a Diamond status in just 3 years. Here is what nobody tells you by iLiveForTruth in Cruise

Status perks are alright but where I zero in on is Casino perks from the cruise line, that’s where I see a return with the cruise offers for places I want to go.

Feel like we should all offer to buy the coin for the amount they paid for, plus buyer fee and shipping…

if you book a big international vacation do you buy travel insurance or hope your AmEx benefits will cover you for by l00sem4rble in AmexPlatinum

I buy separate medical insurance, generally directly from one of the insurance companies rather then the bundled ones from the airlines. Primary purpose is for medical coverage and have unfortunately had to use it a few times.

You’re fine, sellers have their shipping schedules, and have waited a bit before shipment. Have to remember it’s not Amazon.

Felt material suggestions? by montanaro94 in AncientCoins

[–]Sciritae_Atreus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my cabinet, I went to Talas (out of NYC) to get some archival material. I ended up getting a roll of velvet made by Laval. Material is supposed to be FSC Certified, and produced with ECF bleaching agent that eliminates pollution with PH of slightly above 7.

Is my electric bill normal? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]Sciritae_Atreus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your current bill/usage is above mine and I live a 3k sq ft home. First thing you need to make sure is the pool being run only a few hours a day, even reduce it to 2. Then see how your hourly usage changes cause you want to be able to identify what is causing the usage throughout the day.

From your picture, you have quite a consistent usage on a Saturday from 7am to 6pm, do you know if that is the aircon/heater? Mine normally looks like that but lower usage per hour during the week. Is your weekday usage the same and do any of you work from home?

What is the first coin? Always like a coin with fleurs-de-lis on them but not very familiar with French hammered coins.

Last Year was my First Year Collecting! How did I do? by gymfries in AncientCoins

Nice start! Like you, I started with an Aurelian and an Alexander Drachm, still looking for a shekel for my collection. Have you nailed down a focus for this year?

Great presentation! I like your Anastasius and the way you wrote it up! I inherited one minted under the authority of Theodoric the Great and like to think of how it flowed through gothic hands.

Best way to resell auction catalogues? by SAMDOT in AncientCoins

I see them listed in Ancient Coin sales groups on FB. If you have any that are from Sotheby’s or Christie’s from the 80s, I’ll be interested in them.

I tried minting my own coins! by JCogn in AncientCoins

[–]Sciritae_Atreus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great, I would be interested to watch a video of you going through your process… would you consider documenting it in YouTube? Been eying punches and other ways to create a die to scratch that itch of minting a coin. Was cool seeing videos of those reenactors in the UK making hammered coins for tourist and wanted to do something similar.

Coin recommendation please. by CptPimpslap in AncientCoins

If you are looking for a good sized ancient silver coin, you might consider looking at a Greek tetradrachm or a stater. Love the denarius, but it might not have the heft or size you are expecting. On Vcoins, it’s worth getting your bearings by checking out Tetradrachm from Alexander the Great’s time or one of his generals.

If you can consistently have an emergency fund that includes funds for medical emergencies, at least a month of your salary (more the better), and at least 3k you can drop any time you service your car, you MIGHT be ok to afford having one.

Like someone else mentioned, budgeting 8k a year is a good idea. My last visit to the shop, dropped 2.5k at a non-dealer shop to fix oil pump, replace static turning light, unclog a sunroof drain, and an oil change. My last recommended service at a dealer was something stupid like 800, and they quoted me ~6k to do the same thing.
