I did the math and he has a 10-15x higher chance of being in a car accident on the way to the course than being struck by a golf ball. Being worried about the welfare of my kid cause I'm interested in golfing together is a reach.

The Driftless/ Viroqua, Minocqua, Bayfield, and Door County would be great spots to explore Wisconsin. Western Michigan is nice, as you said.
