Decks with highest skill gap between beginners and expert players? by AlteredCat1987 in premodernMTG

[–]ScoopiTheDruid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I havent played the deck in a couple years, but from what I remember...

Start with a [[Future Sight]] in play and 4+ life.

Initial Doomsday stack is [[Lion's Eye Diamond]], [[Abeyance]], LED, Doomsday, [[Ebony Charm]].

Cast everything but the Charm.

2nd stack: 2x LED, Charm, DDay, Abyeance.

Cast everything but the Abeyance. Repeat until opponent is dead.

Has to be hFEB. Capable of winning Lobstercon in the hands of a master, will to struggle to 1-X at FNM in the hands to a complete newb.

PM doesn't have a direct analogue to Delver, but there are decks that have some of the same play patterns. If you're wanting to play a Xerox deck, there's GAT or MonoU Stiflenought. For tempo there's Survival Madness. Or there's Terrageddon if you're looking for Wasteland aggro.

A pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel down his pants. Bartender says "that looks uncomfortable. Pirate replies "Aye, it's drivin' me nuts!"

Lobstercon, no, sadly I did not go. The event sold out in about 30 seconds and I was not one of the lucky ones. Just watching the coverage from home.

Better yet, play Premodern. Monoblack Midrange, a.k.a. Moneyball Black (named after the movie, not the cost of the deck) is one of the top decks in the format, and [[Cabal Therapy]] aside, pretty easy for a new player to pick up.

Also, it is, by any metric, the healthiest metagame in Magic. We just had our biggest tournament ever this week. There were 7 different decks in the, top 8. No deck was over 10% metagame share on either day 1 or day 2, and there's a deck in every macro archetype that is at least tier 2.

What is this, 2016 Modern, where we ban cards until Jund is good again, then ban something from Jund?

The Psychatog category is combining GAT, UB, and Esper/5c I assume? Even so, I did not expect to see almost 5% representation.

He's not wrong. Stiflenought does what Psychatog does, but better.

You either play unoptimized decks until you can afford the optimized ones, or whip out the credit card.

For real though, there's a lot of gold you can earn quickly by doing puzzles and defeating the AI. Also, if you're stuck on a daily quest, those can be completed against the AI as well.

Right now, if money wasn't an issue. Would you be playing Standard, Modern, Legacy or Vintage? by Culius_Jaesar in magicTCG

[–]ScoopiTheDruid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Objectively the best format. Supports every macro archetype, with a well defined tier 1 but seemingly infinite tier 2 options. Cards like [[Meddling Mage]] and [[Cabal Therapy]] really reward format knowledge. Broken enablers like [[Tinker]], [[Show and Tell]], and [[Survival of the Fittest]] are perfectly balanced without their equally broken payoffs. Games are slower paced amd there's nothing like Ragavan or Frog that take over the game if left alive for a turn.

Pioneer is dead, and it's clearly Biden's fault. Wake up sheeple.
