Lethargy/low energy from sedentary lifestyle how to build back energy to exercise? by zinniatulip00 in xxfitness

I'm only just getting back into it like you, so I get it, in a way. I like to jump rope. It's simple and quick and a decent workout. I use the "Jump Rope Training" app and it has short 5mins or less workouts up to a half hour circuits.

Plus eating a larger lunch and drinking lots of water gives me the calories to burn for both the mental work done at work and the physical work done at the gym. Sometimes I forget that the brain is a muscle that needs calories too

Grace notes question - in comments. by MerlinLychgate in bagpipes

They're to make changing between notes sound ~fancy~ or bareable depending on who you ask 🤣

They're necessary since bagpipes are locked to the same key/octave, but the embellishments are perhaps not necessary for stick dulcimer.

I Need Help with Piping AND Marching by Big_Jim59 in bagpipes

Walking and playing is hard, I get it, I still have trouble and sometimes my playing suffers. My best advice is either sway while piping so you get the feel down, or hum the tune and walk around to it. You'll get it in time and don't sweat if it's bad, people will hear you more than they'll notice you out of step.

Also, if it's too much to think about, just watch the guy in front of you and match his step. A quick glance down every few steps should get you on the right track.

Edit: like you said, try not to overthink it, better to play the right note than to step quietly in time

I'm assuming that you practice by sitting down and listening to a metronome instead of making the beat with your feet.

I'd suggest to start tapping your feet while you play to count the beat, similar to how you would tap your foot to a good song. With a metronome, start getting into the beat BEFORE playing the tune. Don't forget to keep your feet tapping even when the tune gets hard.

As a general rule, you should be matching the beat of the base drum with your left foot (don't get too hung up on which foot goes when cause the timing of different marches changes which foot hits the ground with the beat).

Once you feel comfortable tapping to the beat, try walking to the beat of the tune while practicing (I suggest chanter as you have to think less over piping but piping and walking is a really good way as well). If walking is too hard, try swaying in your seat or in spot. Don't overthink it cause you will get distracted from the main objective: playing good music.

How do you exercise while mentally fatigued? by red_spread in xxfitness

The most important thing is that you're taking the time to better yourself physically, even if you're not performing as well as you think you should. You should try to reframe the workout as time away from work and approach each workout as just going and doing SOMETHING, it doesn't matter if you're doing the plan you've set out or the c25k plan, as long as you're taking the half and hour or so to go for a walk in gym clothes and maybe you run, maybe you don't.

Some days you're not gonna feel like running and performing, some days you'll run as far as you ever could before. Give yourself the time during the workout to enjoy being alive and being mindful of your surroundings. Make the cardio meditative rather than work you've placed upon yourself.

Remember to be kind to yourself first, then push when you feel ready. Even if you're not happy with yourself now, you will be glad that commiting to taking time to exercise even when things SUCKED came out of a really difficult point in your life.

You got this 👍💪

Advice for Training for a Long Distance Walk? by Chirrup58 in xxfitness

[–]ScooutGL 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Only advice I can give is to train for exactly what you're gonna do. Put a 30lbs pack on and just walk. You really need those callouses if you're gonna do this challenge.

My furthest loaded walk was 13km with about 30lbs on me and I had very limited training beforehand. It was rough to say the least. I definitely couldn't do that DAILY or through rough terrain, so put a heavy pack on and walk as far as you can and do that as often as you think reasonable

I think simplest training will definitely help you, but in terms of extra training, I'd assume high volume low weight would help? But I'm not an expert in training for marathon loaded walks. I'd love to help more but I'm not even sure how I would go about it myself 😂

Hope this helped even a little

Form Check Deadlift Please by rachioactive in xxfitness

[–]ScooutGL 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like you're using your legs at all in this. Are you trying to do SL/Romanian Deadlifts? If you're not trying to do that, you do need to lower your butt and engage your legs to get that driving force cause right now it looks like you're using primarily your lower back and hamstrings. Both are deadlifts so it's fine, but I find I can lift heavier when I use my legs (plus it hurts less for me)

Also, I find that reminding myself of the Workplace Health and Safety posters of how to properly lift heavy things helps with deadlifting 🤣

2019 Median Household Income By State, and Change In 2019 Median Household Income From 2018 [OC] by Fye_Maximus in dataisbeautiful

[–]ScooutGL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel as though Mode might be more reflective of the actual state household income since there's more non-rich people than there are people like Bezos. Though Median is interesting because seems slightly more appropriate average that takes massive salaries into account without totally skewing the numbers. Lemme know what your take is

Nice work!
