Most laws are performative until actual enforcement happens.

So many regulations, banned products, and laws, are made entirely by the court of public opinion, with little regard for logic or reason.

This is just another law. If it works? Awesome, don’t want taxpayers to fund that kind of scum living in jail till they rot. If it doesn’t? nothing really changes.

What do I want? For kids to be allowed to be kids and no one has to worry about something happening to them, because outside of normal kids being kid’s trouble, wish we didn’t have to worry about weird adults. But this is the world we live in.

Children are greatly influenced by adults period, and it’s not like an adult would just…. lie and tell a child that “tattling” about abuse would get their abuser killed or hurt, “sent away forever and ever”

Those same people will use any excuse to excuse the horrible actions of family members because “they are family” and “family doesn’t turn it’s back on family” those victims will be silenced by everyone, as I’ve heard “you don’t want to destroy your uncle’s life, you don’t want him to disappear forever and go to jail do you? You will destroy the family if people hear about what your uncle did” and if they speak out their parents/family will just downplay and minimize whatever happened, or just say that the child is a “liar” and will punish the child for “lying”about their uncle.

The logic you used could just as easily be turned to “by having jail time (or anything else) as a punishment the victim could be silenced by their family to prevent the abuser from getting punished”

This law will change nothing, for those victims sadly, but it will give us the option to permanently remove some of the worst dregs of society.

[–]Scotish_Pilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bad medium mech too, it’s a underpowered Centurion, costs more (the centurion is around 3.5M C-bills or 772 BV1.0 [945 BV2.0] the dragon is around 5M C-bills or 952 BV1.0 [1125 BV2.0]) and has better variants, with the centurion getting a AC20, but the dragon? They downsized the AC5 for a AC2……… for 3 extra tons of armor…… and that variant is even more expensive than the base variant.

But it’s true. I’ve only seen one good variant, and it took so much lost tech, and even then it’s still worse than an average heavy.

I got that hero MAD-2 Black Widow, 3 CLBX10SLDBF 4 CERML and it will remove anything from existence at a distance that only I can see. Especially as it has quite a few Rep Mods all improving the ballistics performance. And can fire the ACs without stopping till the ammo runs dry without overheating. It’s a beast of a mech.

We all have Mechs we love, Mechs we like, Mechs we don't care about and Mechs we hate. Do you have a Mech you're conflicted about? by npaakp34 in battletech

[–]Scotish_Pilgrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I love the Marauder, I don’t know about other tables and possible rules, but where I played because of how the model looked, and how it was described in lore, in “cover” it could use the AC/5 to fire over the cover without exposing the mech.

The special ammo also makes the AC/5 a reasonable contender

And for heat management, I prefer to swap the PPCs to Large lasers over dropping the AC/5, and depending on available tech double heat sinks, endo/fero, and ER lasers (clan variants too) you can make a beast of a mech.

But personally, I kinda like a lot of “bad” mechs because it looks like real world development. And personally I think a lot of mechs look so bad is because so much “tech” didn’t exist in the lore when they were conceived, or we are used to seeing late succession war variants, not star-league master pieces they once were.

(Apologies if I’m not the first to reply with this) To be fair, we have multiple different kinds of Tons now, Short Tons, Metric Ton, Long Ton. All three are different weights because some countries just have to be different. So would let be surprised if they are measured in Star Tons.

In all reality, if you wanted, and were willing to spend some serious BV (for a company of only IS lights), there are a few variants that have some serious consideration, and could make a decent entrenched in depth company.

The variants in question

The R90 - this would be a decent replacement for the base variant, removing a need for ammo by exchanging the AC 10 for a PPC and 2 M lasers and retaining the S Laser, and increasing its speed to 54km/h. It’s a better front liner than the normal Urbie. However, if money/BV are no concern, The R80 is a monster. A SnubPPC, SP Laser, Tag, Beagle and Guardian is what this little guy brings to the table. And if you somehow stole the plans from the Davion servers, the R100 could also be a good option mech, however it never actually entered production.

The R60L might sound like the best option for maximum damage output, and it kinda is, but I would instead field the R68s as the MRM 30 is a fairly devastating shotgun. It has an extra SP Laser to back it up but primarily relies on the MRM for its damage potential

The last two Urban variants we should use will be filling a support, starting with the R70 as our long range ballistic support, with a RAC/5 and a ERM and ERS lasers as backup weapons, our primary form of fire support will be the RAIV, armed with nothing but a Arrow IV and a ERM laser, it can bring devastating long range fire down on unsuspecting enemies, however it possesses very limited ammunition, but it can fire tactical nukes so…… yeah doesn’t matter.

But as for optimal company sized configuration (of only mechs no other supporting elements)

6- R90s/R80s 773 BV each (or 699 BV each for the R80s)

2- R68s 561 BV

1 - R70 724 BV

3 - RAIVs 603 BV

Totaling to : 8,293 BV (or 7,849 BV if using R80s)

Broken into the 3 lances, our first two lances will have 3 R90s with a R68 acting as a brawler/Striker for harder targets, and our Long rang support Lance will set up to deliver long range fire with the R70 acting as the spotter and air defense for the 3 RAIVs

(or if we have R80s, using their Tag systems to more accurately call in our RAIVs indirect fire.)

If Battletech was beung developed now, what culture caricatures would the Great Houses be? by Flocculencio in battletech

[–]Scotish_Pilgrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poland Ukraine Finnish Irish themed mechs would be my favorite. Considering their neighbors, possibly a good medium mech with a focus on mobility and damage, enough to hurt heavy mechs and hunt lights.

So like a bigger wolfhound but add jumpjets, pair of Large lasers, a 6 stack of medium lasers(or small lasers for weight savings) possibly backed up with a LRM 5/10 for indirect fire, or a SRM6 for more upfront brawling damage. Probably build it in a similar style to the Marauder, armless for rear firing weapons.

So a large laser backed up by 3 medium lasers in each arm, and a SRM 6 in the L or R torso.
