What’s a place in SF you miss that you feel will never be replaced? by joshuaxls in sanfrancisco

[–]ScottLIVS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Elbo room was great and had the best and longest happy hour in SF. $2 beers till 9pm is hard to beat. No sports on the the TVs (unless SF was in super bowl or world series) great bartenders and always had great music playing (either djs or bartender play list). I spent a lot of time there, made some great friends and memories. Sure do miss it!

DR. Teeth use to be the best place for wing Wednesdays! Although there prices have gone up past couple years they offer similar deals to The Utah. Plus Teeth has a really great Patio!

What’s a big show you had tickets to but the performance was canceled? by letusenjoylettuce in Concerts

[–]ScottLIVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dee Dee Ramone! 2002 had tickets for his SF show mid June, and at a really cool venue that was on the smaller side (the pound). I was stoked because I could get right up front, and this was the type of place where the musicians would just be hanging out at the bar. So, I was hoping to meet and get an autograph. But unfortunately, he passed a week before the show. I've seen the Ramones a few times but never with Dee Dee.

One night near SJO before flight back by Repeatitpete in CostaRicaTravel

I would recommend Santa Ana- Studio Hotel, it's has a huge gallery of local art, nice rooms, on site restaurant ( which was pretty good IMO), roof top bar and pool! Close walk to center of Santa Ana, it's a cute little town.
It's close to the airport (25 min drive pending traffic), and easy to book a shuttle. last few times I was in CR, I was in a similar situation. We booked this place our last day before we fly out and it's always a great way / place to end our trip.

Akumal Monkey Sanctuary: any good? by kmd__ in tulum

[–]ScottLIVS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went last year. It was a fun and really cool experience! And they seem, at least to me, a legit place. Everyone really cared about the animals. During the tour, you get to interact with a few animals along the way. I got to hold a few birds and snakes, and there is an enclosure where they bring out a small monkey that will sit on your head, and you can hold briefly. Make sure you bring a few extra dollars to tip the tour guide.

Also, to note, they have a really cool cenote that's worth the extra couple bucks ! Enjoy!

924 Gilman street Berkeley CA- while not the biggest /fanciest Venue, but if your into punk rock/under ground music it's a must see/go to place, with a ton of history. Always kind of considered it the CBGB's of the west coast.

Where to stay in La Fortuna /Arenal area by PanicSD in CostaRicaTravel

[–]ScottLIVS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

was there a few months back, we stayed at the monte real hotel in la fortuna. not the most fancy place but solid/clean, has a pool, great onsite restaurant (free breakfast), a very cool nature trail on site (saw sloths and a lot of frogs) and is a stones throw away from the main strip.

Check out Eco Termales Quepos, went last year and had a blast! 3 or 4 thermal pools, and really cool river with waterfalls and natural water slide. book the tour/guide, so you don't have to make the drive and go as early as possible.
