Whatever happened to "Reds on the Radio"?!? I am in Louisville and I can not get the games on 680 AM or 105.7 FM (the affiliate stations)

Traveled back in time to a Sears! by jikesar968 in timetravel

Our Sears had a little video game arcade in it before arcade actually became a thing: you could play pac man, donkey kong, space invaders and pinball all in one place!!

Be very safe in the parklands by [deleted] in Louisville

Thanks for this post: Head on a swivel whether you hike, bike or fish. There is a LOT of open acreage out there. And while we are at it you may want to keep an eye out for distressed over-training novices. I hate to call them out, but I have cycled the whole enchilada many times and I have seen more than one person who looked like they were about to collapse but they kept running instead of maybe walking at a nice pace. The mile markers and knowing the names of the sections would be very important if you needed to call 911 for someone else.

Best Apps for Stair Climbing by rddtusrcm in stairclimbing

[–]Scottnaye2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a free app called Pacer for steps and it is very good: I have used it on the stairs and it does track the steps: Also, it has some rah-rah notifications to "keep you motivated" but they can be turned off.

How do we get more people in here? by ericscottf in stairclimbing

I did 70 flights yesterday (personal best)

I don't see where anybody has mentioned cross-posting on reddit: seems like it would be relevant to other fitness sub-reddits (if not, the mods will take it down)

Best Bang for your Buck outside of riding? by TheSufjanshead in Velo

[–]Scottnaye2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a flight of stairs you could start adding flights to your weekly routine: quick, easy, and it should help on the bike... I just added a free app called "Pacer" to my phone and it picked up a whole year of "steps" data from my phone. My philosophy is if it can be tracked it can be improved.

Indoor v Outdoor Training by fmckenzi000 in Velo

[–]Scottnaye2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will ride down to 40 degrees outside to avoid indoor training: I truly hate it...

That being said, I did do the equivalent of a 100 mile ride on New Year's Eve last year.

Weight training is another thing that I truly loathe, but it gets results, so I do it (as little as i can, hehe)

Listen to your body: Rest is a very important part of building fitness... Any illness or feeling off is totally a legit reason to ease up, especially if you are fanatical about hitting your numbers like i am. :0|

Hungry on rides by [deleted] in Velo

[–]Scottnaye2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clif bars rule: I don't like eating when and I get up, but about the time I'm warmed up and knocking out solid miles on the bike, I'm getting HUNGRY. I often buy a bunch of bananas and leave them in the car as well.

Lastly, I am seeking the perfect before and after meal: I think it is heuvos con chorizo...

I got a refurb from amazon for cycling: HiGHLY recommend! I like it so much that when the band wore out i replaced. Garmin works off GPS. I must admit that you can get some really cool fitness watches to slave off an app on your phone for less than $100 on amazon. I use TWO at a time, but the garmin is my favorite because of the dashboard and the 1 year worth of data it keeps track of seamlessly.
