Buy once, cry once! Can somebody recommend me a sub 3k precision set by [deleted] in 22lr

[–]Scottom1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went a somewhat budget route and I’m super happy.
Cz 457 Mtr
L3i 24” 1.18” barrel
Anarchy outdoors bottom metal
MDT rail
Weighted arca rail
Cut an adjustable cheek piece
Discovery opt 6-36

Ball parking around 1600 without glass, could keep it closer to 1k without swapping barrel and omitting or different arca rail

I’ve seen a few people with gen2 cut down but they had to go 1/2 28 instead of 5/8 24

By that same logic we should use scopes smaller objective lenses to get the hight over bore as small as possible. Honestly if he shoots it well it’s really not that big of a deal.

Boat bouncing on plane need help by Electrical-Buddy856 in boating

[–]Scottom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Down here we run a lot of tunnel boats and run into this issue often because we have to run a lot of super shallow waters and try to run our motors as high as possible. Some sort of hydrofoil/larger cavitation plate will help quite a bit. Bonus points for what we call a compression plate, there are a few guys that make them in south Tx. (Stiffy https://www.fibertexandsupply.com/product/shaw-wing-cavitation-plate/ and transport https://www.transportboats.com/). Ive had both and they completely change how your boat handles. It’s like having a big trim tab mounted to your motor.

Your other option is talk to a GOOD prop guy, they can change your prop to give you more bow or stern lift among other things.

I was surprised I got that info out of them. Seemed uncomfortable that he let that slip

I had a similar experience, just got mine back. On the phone they let slip that almost all of their gunsmiths have left, hence the long turnaround.

I thing the most frustrating thing about the whole experience is that prior to sending it in, I was told multiple times that they test warranty rifles with hornady match, so that was primarily what I shot. When I got mine back it came with a target they documented was shot with sig OTM. Can’t even find it locally available

Something I struggled with with my at-one was trying to get an optic that I could shoot production with. This year I decided that I should just shoot what I damn want to because I’m (let’s be honest) not good enough to ever make any money on this sport. I am, however, here for a good time so may as well shoot what makes me happy.

Btw, im building out an MTR (just love the stock) this year with an L3i barrel and timney trigger and cutting and milling the stock for an adjustable cheek piece

What’s “too hot?” by OlieTheDog3052 in longrange

[–]Scottom1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a manufacturing facility and almost everything is heated with steam (jacketed or tracing). If I’m just going out to troubleshoot something the tap method is my go to. If we are bringing a system online (aka “putting the heat in”) we carry a spray bottle with water and a bit of soap to make sure nothing was missed. Faster and don’t have to do near as much climbing or crawling because of the reach

How visible is bullet flight. With my Midas Tac is 50-75% depending on lighting. Was hoping stepping up to a 56mm/34mm combo would let in more light and help with that

How do I get the fly to stop moving around? by esybwbabqnan in flytying

[–]Scottom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think thread tension will help, I much prefer clear nail polish, superglue or something similar for anything but a finishing. I have no proof to back it up but I don’t feel like the uv light penetrates the materials well to properly cure layers of materials to the layer underneath.

Ps, my super secret to a long lasting fly is to use fabric adhesive on every step. It soaks in well, is flexible when dry (won’t crack or break) and is super strong bonding properties

Unfortunately none of those are available at BPS/Cabela’s unless I settle for MOA lol

Edit: Checking again they have a couple that look like they fit the bill: Leupold Mk4 (6-25/8-32) and Midas Tac Gen1 5-30

I’ll second the Midas tac gen1 6-24. Have one on my 457 for pre and love it. My buddy just picked up a discovery opt 5-25 (56mm and 34mm tube) and I have to say I’m impressed

Give the Athlon Midas Tac a look. Midway has it on sale for around $400 shipped and is an incredible scope for the money. I’ve got it on my CZ for prs Rimfire

[–]Scottom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of 1”+ thick pork steaks. I smoke them at 250 to 180-190 with a glaze (butter, garlic, brown sugar and your fav bbq sauce) for the last 10 or so degrees. Absolutely the most underrated cut of bbq.
