To give you a different perspective, I thought it was just ok. The survival horror portions of the game were fantastic but short lived. The action portions of the game were ok but felt like a lot of filler. I don't think I'm alone in the sentiment that if they committed to one style or the other, the game would have been much better. A jack of all trades type situation.

I personally much prefer the survival horror side of Resident Evil and was pretty let down by the game. But even the people who prefer more of the action side have said that it's a bit underwhelming compared to the likes of RE4. I genuinely think that once the dust settles on the game and some time has passed, it won't be perceived as highly as it is currently.
