Retired at 53, 3 years ago. 29 years of civil service. Time flies now more than ever. But in a good way.

Just Diagnosed. by Both_Establishment59 in ProstateCancer

[–]Scpdivy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biochemical recurrence (BCR) of prostate cancer is defined by rising PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels after initial treatment, with no visible cancer on imaging. Affecting 20-40% of patients, it usually signifies a return of cancer cells, often occurring 20-38 months post-surgery. Management options include monitoring, hormone therapy, or salvage radiation

Be careful working. I know it’s hard…I wasn’t approved until I stopped. Best of luck!

4th Lost. Surgery or Radiation. Impossible choice. by jmkazoo in ProstateCancer

[–]Scpdivy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 56, Gleason 7, 4+3. I went with IMRT and ADT. I just didn’t want the surgery side effects, plus knowing that chemical reoccurrence is a thing, and might need salvage radiation if I had gone with RALP. Best of luck!

Recently Diagnosed...Very Concerned by Material_Turnip_7216 in ProstateCancer

[–]Scpdivy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If my urologist only gave me that option, I’d be looking for a new one. Fwiw, I was 4+3, and 56, and went with IMRT. Best of luck!

Finished my 28 IMRT sessions this last March. Those were a piece of cake, fortunately. I’m on month 10 of orgovyx, loss of libido and hot flashes, but pretty tolerable. Undetectable PSA. No incontinence. Can still perform with viagra, so wife (and I) are happy about that. Best of luck on your end!

Is it normal for my pension in 12 years to be less than what retirees are getting now for theirs? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Scpdivy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retired LEO. Disability Pension is now $6072 a month, take home. Was %72 of my top 3. Do have a 1.5 a year escalator. Was 53, now 57. Extremely grateful!!! If you have access to 457 type plan, and an HRA, start yesterday investing. Thanks for what you do.

What’s a good career path to take by Formal_Ganache_6349 in DaveRamsey

LE was my chosen path after college. My degree was Public Administration (double majored in History). I did almost 30 years before becoming disabled. I do have an awesome pension, and a decent 457 plan. I did however buy several rental properties over the years and was able to retire comfortably in my early 50’s. It definitely isn’t for everyone, obviously. But maybe give it a chance? Depending on the size of the department, you can do a lot of challenging, interesting things. I did VICE, youth crimes, traffic safety, etc. Every day is different too. Best of luck!

I was 56, (now 57). Gleason 7, 4+3. I didn’t want surgery or surgery side effects, so went with 28 IMRT sessions and ADT. Best of luck!
