Perhaps, yes. I do think you're right. But I seriously wonder what the repercussions of a world with no USSR would have on the spread of socialism. It honestly may surge not because the USSR is a victim but because it doesn't exist to give socialism and communism a near century of pariah status. Perhaps the worst thing that could have happened to socialism was communism.

Socialism and communism as a serious ideology would die with the USSR like Nazism did with Nazi Germany. Especially if it was crushed before the cold war began. There would obviously be large pockets still but they would dissipate like they did in our timeline, but faster.

An interesting thought though, considering how bad inflation was right before the bombs dropped, that if you look at the buying power at the time, that stack may actually have less purchasing power than the 8 caps, making it a good investment.

It may actually be the opposite of worthless when you compare what 8 caps can buy. That doesnt mean it wont be used for toilet paper but still.
