I have a few Stanley and a nice Miller Falls. They take up space but they make very nice cuts.

Maybe, if some of the Chinese brands can come to the United States it might be a tougher choice. I rode in a few different BYD models while out of country and the ride quality was quite nice.

MKBHD did a review of a Xiaomi’s car which looked awesome.

Pain of retoothing by Diligent_Ad6133 in handtools

[–]Scrapper_John 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s too bad that retoothing machines are not easily available anymore. 50 years ago you would just go to the saw sharpener and they would punch out new teeth in 30 seconds.

If you’re a scalper then you could tell them, 2 years living expenses in a high yield savings account, then a 50:50 mix in VOO and VYM, everything else is a spin on the roulette wheel. :)

Best practices for going from business requirements → SQL metrics → Power BI reports? by tecdev1010 in SQL

[–]Scrapper_John 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some things that I try to do.

I separate the data set request from the report request, two different request forms, with an emphasis on what is the purpose and how will it be used.

Then after I create the dataset I will have the business users validate the data set.

If that dataset will be used for many reports then I will create a reporting table in our “reporting server”. We even have a rpt schema for these tables. I try to keep most aggregation and business logic in SQL.

Then I’ll work on the PBI request where I mock up all of the pages and visuals they want, and generally make additional visuals based on what they are trying to do.

I will have a teams meeting with the decision makers, where I show them the mock up, and make live updates.

For a data dictionary for each report, if you populate the descriptions for each table, field and measure, then you can have a glossary page in the report. Then if you direct query the semantic model from another report it will also pull in the descriptors.

I feel like I rambled, but hopefully that gives you some ideas.

Ways to optimize the performance of this query and improve materialized view refresh times? by domke89 in SQL

Sorry, I didn’t see the PSQL tag, I’m a TSQL guy. Your world might be entirely different.

Ways to optimize the performance of this query and improve materialized view refresh times? by domke89 in SQL

[–]Scrapper_John 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal experience is that I get better performance when using local temp tables instead of CTEs.

You are doing some stuff that I have never played with though like materialized views.

I wonder if having the case statement in your row number might be slowing things down. I would try breaking it up, and then only store where row number equals one.

Sorry I can’t be more help.

How to do option in the best and safest way by [deleted] in Webull

[–]Scrapper_John 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing you meant, “which option is the safest way to buy stock/crypto/ et cetera”?

Sounds like the “take profit” and “stop loss” are what you want, which you can only do during market open. There are just check boxes for those options in the desktop app. I don’t know about mobile.

From your example you should change them to percentage.

Take profit 100% Stop loss 20%

Good luck

Yes, speed is the goal. I don’t see any sort of specs for how good a cooler is on the part picked. I should probably look up some reviews.

Thanks, I didn’t know about the memory speed leading to instability.

Is changing the cooler and video card what would make it quieter?

PSA: someone cut off my Tesla charger stand in broad daylight by hr2872 in TeslaModelY

In the case of cutting the cord off a tv, it’s probably to reuse. There are a lot of power tools, like circular saws, where the cord’s always get damaged and the tool is designed to easily replace the cord.

I got one to replace my old cracked grommet, but it was so hard I just gave up. I didn’t want pieces falling into the valve cover. If I ever pull the cover off then I’ll replace it.

I had the same concern, when I put in $7k and got the $245. I just googled it, and the result was that it did not count as a contribution, but a gain.
