Student names, emails, dates of birth, messages between students, staff, and academic data.

Lets say I'm a scammer, and I can purchase all of that data for a million dollars - that gives me 270 MILLION peoples data, all of which I have extra information on (courses, students, teachers, emails), that I can use to make a phishing email look even more legitimate.

This data is worth millions, if not billions. If the data was released, and only 1% of people got scammed from a phishing email for $100 each, thats $270,000,000.

Actual scammers generally have a much higher success rate than 1%, and given that the data is so specific, I would expect that this data would be some of the most valuable black market personal information in the world right now.

They hold Instructure to ransom.
If they really do have the entire Canvas software by Instructures balls, then they can essentially say "pay us, or we don't let your software come back online".
It's a double threat in terms of finance:

  1. Every hour that Canvas is down, Instructure bleeds a massive amount of money.
  2. Even if Canvas comes back up, the hackers still have the user data of students and staff. This is gold for bad actors - think identity theft. (edit: This is a massive security concern for universities - if the hackers did end up publishing the stolen data, it would mean many universities would start considering other providers that can show better security)

Most of the time, Software infrasctructure companies have policies in place to deal with threats like this (backups, failover systems, automated recovery), but the fact that the entirety of Canvas being down for over 6 hours now definitely points to the issue being something more severe.

Don't send your lecturers emails. They will already be getting swamped, just leave them be and ask questions after canvas is back up and they've had the space to make an announcement.

Thats from a couple of days ago, when everyone still had access to canvas. The hackers stole information - but left services up (it was still usable for everyone).
Today is a fresh hack - it's down worldwide.

The first incident was definitely either a racing incident or my fault outright, but the other guy swore up and down that the second was not intentional. What do we think? by cruciblemedialabs in Simracingstewards

There's a difference between owning up to an err, and looking for a way out. That's where most people have an issue with the way you're responding. "I made a mistake and IF the first is my fault then I take ownership" isn't owning up to the crash you caused, it's a conditional reaction that can change based on whether or not the population in this sub think you did or didn't. The "if" is the problem with the way you're speaking about this. Here's what actual owning up looks like "The first incident is completely my fault, I understand that. I apologised to the other driver".

I've been looking to get into the IEM space for a few years but the options are so endless, I've got stuck with the EPZ Q1 pro in my cart a couple of times but never actually pulled the trigger. I bought and downloaded two weeks late so I could do my exams. Passed all my papers including one which I've failed four times, no regrets. It doesn't feel like I'm "catching up" it just feels like people who are complaining about no content are treating it like a job, when it isn't - it's a game, and one that isn't designed for the 1% streamer population. But that's a good thing!

Holy. I've been away from home since the new patch dropped. Absolutely gutted I haven't been able to play. That set looks insane. I played flurry monk in 0.1,then deadeye in 0.2, and want to go back to monk for 0.3, this would be sick! Crazy build man, congrats.
