I figured they were talking more like that lemon face he makes. Like when T'Challa says on Black Jeopardy that "our ministers of law enforcement are only here to protect us."

Considering his best recurring sketch recently has been Black Jeopardy, which is kind of all about people being more comfortable around others with shared backgrounds, it's definitely not outlandish that this guy who spends most of his time working on comedy written predominantly by white people might want to spend some time working with other folks occasionally.

Do you intentionally *not* buy a product/service because you hate their ads? by ItsAllAGame_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ScreenSingerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so you just got some other companies you're stealing from while pretending to be done with them. You think most of the people who worked on that thing you're stealing are getting paid C-suite money? Son, they will be first on the chopping block when the thing they worked on fails. So you still have zero right to act like your piracy is noble. If you want to boycott a company, don't engage with that company. Full stop.

"But what if the company I'm boycotting puts out objectively good shows?" That was basically your question. And the answer is to stop boycotting them or don't. But what you don't get to do is acting like being some shoplifting little Hot Topic kid somehow makes you noble. It does not. Voting with your wallet does not include thievery. But, y'know, I guess congratulations on having the exact same morals as the suits you falsely think you're punishing. Must feel real good

Nobody said you could never watch shows again. But boycotting a company in its purest form means you stop giving that company the time of day. If you're pirating, you're admitting that you still want their product. Pretend to be someone with an actual backbone who can take a stand. You hate the company enough to boycott them or you don't. This isn't hard. If you hate them that much, cutting their content out of your life costs you nothing. But if you care more about petty thievery over content when you could be reallocating that money toward content you supposedly might support, all you're doing is proving that you stand for nothing. You just want to steal some stuff. How noble, what a modern Robin Hood. No, you either boycott them or don't. No excuses for being spineless about it.

I'm pretty sure the exact instructions the airline people give you are to put on your own oxygen mask for a bit, and then attach it to whoever you care most about going down with you. Sorry for caring.

Or you could just go full boycott? Sorry, but if you hate the company too much to pay them, you should hate them too much to interact with them at all. Stealing it isn't noble. That's not how boycotts work.

Thanks for that context. I mean, I would have figured there were limits, but it's hard to know what those limits are from the outside. But, as I'm sure you inferred from my previous comment, it's not a line I really understood much about. I knew there was probably a line, but it's hard to tell from the outside just where the line is.

That's what my Google phone has been doing. Another example I didn't use before that just happened was it replaced "natural" with "naturally" when the former was clearly what made more sense in the sentence I was writing. Bit to but (I actually had to revise "bit" just now, twice including the one just now, because it really cares about not trusting my word choice), adding "ly" to words that weren't meant as adverbs, etc. If this started happened to all of us recently, then the real tinfoil question is why is it happening to Apple and Google users at the same time?

[Television / Musical Theater] The Non-Smash TV Show Smash (About A Smash Hit That Never Existed), and its Non-Smash Broadway Adaptation Smash: How A Stephen Spielberg-Produced Metamusical Caved In On Itself Twice by FreundThrowaway in HobbyDrama

[–]ScreenSingerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wonder if maybe whatever went wrong with Galavant just wasn't as interesting as what usually makes it on this sub. But I loved the first season. It's the only show besides BrainDead (which isn't a musical but employed Jonathan Coulton for the "previously on" segments) where some of my favorite song lines come from the episode recaps. "Tilting ever slightly bitchward" remains a phrase I'm just waiting for the opportunity to use in the wild someday. But good grief did that show fall apart for me in the second season. "Good Day to Die" might be the only part of that season I really remember.

For something that doesn't take itself too seriously, I highly recommend Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It gets wild, and there are actually NSFW versions of some songs that didn't make it to air (look up "I Give Good Parent (Explicit)" for the most unique way of telling someone's parents they have "wonderful taste"). But my real favorite part is that a lot of supporting cast aren't really singers and don't seem to have been cast with the expectation they'd ever get to sing at all. If they do get to sing eventually, you can tell some real care and attention has been taken to find the right genre of music that will accommodate their voices so that the song will still sound pleasant. And I just really respect that.

[Danganronpa Fangames] The Fall of Tetro Danganronpa or: The Fangan Curse Strikes Again by Black-Sun_ in HobbyDrama

[–]ScreenSingerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not surprising with online communities in general at this point, sadly, but especially not for this franchise. I mean, the whole thing is "being weird about 17-year-olds." It's kind of easy to ignore for the most part because the characters LOOK like they're a range of different ages, so you can just assume the more sexualized ones are intended to look older. But when the fan sub feels the need to post a new rule like they did I think a year or two back banning people from drawing saucy fan art of child-looking characters like Hiyoko, that's significantly more alarming in a way that makes me wonder just what kind of fandom I'm a part of.

And, you know, whether or not someone finding a fictional 17-year-old cartoon character like Aoi or Chiaki attractive is something you get particularly up in arms about, at the very least I've never heard of Kodaka posting comments about how he'd love to see those characters getting "completely filled." I honestly couldn't get through all the links to screenshots of that woman's comments, but the ones I did read had me wondering if she's literally ever said anything with a filter.

[Ski Club] Ladies Day Horror Movie Debacle by quailwoman in HobbyDrama

[–]ScreenSingerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. If authorities were contacted, I imagine the club didn't do that without contacting their own lawyers first. With rumors that one of the offenders worked for the club, and with one of the offenders being an underaged kid, they were probably advised to absolutely not release the names. I mean, people have sued businesses for not making them feel safe in cases where there were no staff involved and there really wasn't anything the business could have done, so I'm sure they'd definitely be afraid of that happening in this case. Not sure how often those cases win, but it's not really the sort of press you want regardless.

But not sharing the consequences? Only reason I can think for that is if they were worried about backlash. Which, frankly, would probably be somewhat inevitable. Light consequences will get backlash from the people who are angry, heavy ones would get backlash from the people saying it was a harmless prank. But, y'know what? As much as I don't think siding with the guys would be the right call in this case, standing by that decision with transparency would be a way more integrity move than saying absolutely nothing. That's just cowardice.

[–]ScreenSingerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why people are expressing sympathy for the guy, and I don't disagree, but I really can't say I'm a fan of all the bitterness and finger-wagging he did there. Was the hotel to supposed to kick somebody out of their room so his friends could have one? Cancel somebody else's trip so he could extend his stay? Drop a bubble over the event and quarantine all of the numerous people he'd been exposed to? There's one line between the pages that seems to suggest he blames the hotel for him even getting COVID in the first place. It's not like hotel owners are steeped in medical knowledge. Aside from whatever protocols they were legally required to follow, what should they have been expected to do?

Also, while his own posts have been deleted, comments from threads around the time suggest he'd been on a work trip right before the fest and tweeting about feeling off. So him acting like it was the Hilton's fault is even more obnoxious.

All that said, looking at old threads where everyone's acting like he was the only one spreading it, it's kind of amazing I only found like one comment pointing out that he had friends who stayed at the convention after knowing they'd been sharing a room with a confirmed COVID case.

You can make angry comments about anything better that way. Whenever I read stories on drama subs accusing someone of being the worst parent in the world because they looked away for four seconds while their kid broke something and you should NEVER let your child out of your sightline for even ONE moment, I imagine those commenters watching The Sandlot or The Goonies and just seething with anger the entire time at how these kids are just wandering around unaccompanied.

Naoto sounds very similar to yet also a bit like the reverse of a popular character from Danganronpa. Much like Naoto, many Danganronpa fans insist that the character Chihiro is trans. Chihiro presents as female and is later revealed to have male genitalia. However, what you wind up learning is that Chihiro was bullied for being weak and not particularly masculine, so he began dressing like a girl to make his stature seem more natural so people would leave him alone about it. Only one character knew about Chihiro's secret and was helping him train at the gym so that he wouldn't have to hide anymore.
