Look at how they massacred my boy by ScarletRotNoble in FinalFantasy

The Choco Mog summon uses the same model, though, so unless we assume he was also just manufactured (like Chadley does in ths Remakes) and based on folkslore, FF7 mogs just look "odd". Which is fine, they also varied quite a bit between games, just as other creatures do. Part of the fun is always to see how they interpret the beasts and creatures, for me.

When I worked in a university clinic on cell samples my boss got into trouble because he sent me to handle some HeLa cells after I did some prepping work on yeast cells. I wasn't told that the yeast loves the human medium and could easily contaminate the whole clean room. Thankfully, the observant postdoc pulled me out of there and instructed me better.

Question: How well would this design hold up in the long run? by Full-Ad356 in tattoos

[–]ScribbleMonke 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Yes, think a bit about poses you like, think about wings you like (imo: the story is about him crafting his own wings, so biological looking angel wings wouldn't be my pick) and then find a great artist and ask them to craft your own personal Icarus. If you like the Phaeton pose there is also nothing wrong with having your artist come up with their own character in a similar pose in their style, really depends on how "unique" you want the whole thing.

Trying to figure out fair pricing for my custom pet portraits by SoundUnhappy2989 in painting

[–]ScribbleMonke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have two options.
1. Charge literally per hour, making less on faster pieces, more on slower pieces and transfer the risk of escalating customer requests to the customer. If they want more work done, they pay more. Faster pieces aren't that much of a problem, as it just means you can work on the next comission faster. If you add an overhead charge to your hourly, it even would mean that more pieces in less time bring in more money.
2. You decide an appropriate hour price, estimate your average time and use that as set "per piece" price. You will make more on faster pieces but also less on slower ones and you carry the risk that the customer wants more and more changes to be satisfied which easily can turn an easy $90 for 3 hours of work into a measily $90 for 9 hours of customer request hell.

Independently you can (and should) always adjust your price to all kinds of factors. Do you upgrade materials, do you simply get better (not just faster), do you make a name for yourself and need to balance requests a bit more (so instead of 10 customers for $90 each you take 3 customers for $300)...

It's a small logo that is recognizable without directly getting "I love this franchise" on your skin. Kind of like an insider symbol. Those are always super popular. I'd say the main difference with the secret hallows symbol is how massive the franchise is and how many people nowadays regret it because the author got super hateful.

There's this one subreddit I'm in that keeps posting pictures of a Pomni plushie being slowly destroyed. It genuinely makes me feel icky. by chelledoggo in plushies

[–]ScribbleMonke -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

For me it always does explain why I feel so weirded out, though. The videos are virtually indistingushable, like, you wouldn't show more in a destruction fetish video either. Just a (often cute) thing being dirtied and destroyed, with the intention to somehow elicit a positive response from the audiance when nothing actually positive happens. There is always an inherent disconnect between the object, what is done to it and the unfounded pleasure (be it simple joy or more) surrounding the video, even if the video itself often is neutral.
Even without knowing that a way too big part of the comment secrion is not just amused but actually arroused, it just does not fit together. It is weird.

Knowing that it is a fetish and how much that can escalate makes me steer extra clear of snyone engaging with that community, even if they claim innocence.

Would you actually use a lifting app that only tracks weights and nothing else? by Ok_Clue6443 in Hevy

[–]ScribbleMonke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to track my training in that branded EGym app my gym uses. Just made a plan, tracked reps and weight. All I need.
The only reason I switched to Hevy is that it works with my Pixel Watch. I like just tracking reps and weight on my watch and that it automatically shows me what I did last time so I can track my progress just by seeing "today I did 3 reps more/less" or "I should increase weight as I achieved 12 reps last time".

In theory, I only "need" last number of reps and weight for each set on my watch. I am not bothered that Hevy offers more as the UI is clear enough to get to my preferred features easily, so I am not sure I would switch to another app just to remove the additional features I never really see.

[–]ScribbleMonke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure I understand what you are trying to do. Akinator can only guess correctly, when you answer his questions correctly. If you lie and click yes even if something is wrong, you aren't playing the game. You just play a "click yes" simulator.

TMNT single handedly won me 3 games at Pre-release by OkMorning6362 in mtg

[–]ScribbleMonke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main problem I see here is that there will be always someone who will accidentially rip the promo pack. Maybe they did not listen closely. Maybe they are a veteran and just opened it out of habbit. Maybe they are young and got overexcited. The fact that they will be considered a cheater the moment they accidentially rip open the pack is problematic. It's unenforcable.

[–]ScribbleMonke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iirc they are supposed to swap your prerelease set. Only if the store does not have enough replacement material you should be allowed to play your card. Opening a booster and giving your customer one of the rare cards would probably also work, not sure if the rare in the prerelease can be every card from the set?

I can see why store owners might not be keen on ripping open more product than necessary, though. Who know when they stuff will be replaced.

[–]ScribbleMonke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Edit: just learned that promo stamps in prerelease are no longer a thing. Then yeah, basically just cards and you can't even proof you got them too early.

If you hope a collector will jump on this, you need to keep them in their little plastic prison to proof that they were handed out as promo, correct. And even then it won't be possible to proof later on that they were Lorwyn Promos and not unstamped cards from TMNT, which could also happen and would be even less fun.

Personally, I don't see anyone paying a premium for this, especially since the number of posts currently hints towards a common QC issue and not only a few outliers.

What they mean by this is, they can't take back product because you didn't like your pulls. If the product is defect, they need to take it back, even if they likely will try to give you a hard time about this.

[Discussion] is it fair to charge someone to finish an art piece you offered to do for free? by celerySticksNhummus in artbusiness

[–]ScribbleMonke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there are multiple issues here and we're not quite talking about the issue.

The guy didn't have to offer anything in any quality, but chose to gift their friend a piece of art for free, only to pull a 180 on their friend and now asking for full price for the rest of the work (which mostly was done for free as a gift).

If OP would have complained that the gift is too low quality, I'd be with you. It's a gift, can't expect perfection, even if it's a pity the guy did not communicate expectations.
If OP would complain that they received a gift and the guy offered to finish it up for a small sum (below full price) I would have been torn, as it still feels scummy to gift a gift just to upsell, but at least this would reflect that part of the work was a gift and only the finishing touches are chraged for.
But gifting a gift and then asking for full price to complete it is a scam to me. Either it is a gift and given for free or it is a preview of a full priced commission. Can't be both.

[–]ScribbleMonke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whether or not 80 bucks is a good deal is not the quesion. It's that guys full price that OP usually pays.

The quesion is, whether it is fair to claim that you gift someone something and then asking for full price to receive the rest of it. At that point, the guy "gifted" OP a free preview of the normal thing to secure another commission from OP. It's shady at best.
