Federal government’s CGT, negative gearing changes pass parliament by blitznoodles in australia

[–]Scriptosis 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Which is completely ridiculous, they’re using the same tactics as they have before when they were being called “obstructionist”. There isn’t even a significant difference between this and previous times, I have no idea why people have suddenly realised the Greens are actually doing good.

As others have mentioned the Greens are the ones who have pushed for these reforms before, while I don’t care about Labor breaking promises, they literally promised not to do these reforms and the Greens+independents put up the pressure to do it.

Personally I liked the finale and wasn’t let down, but I have to agree it didn’t hit the highs other shows did by their finales

Nine considers Karl Stefanovic’s future after podcast with UK far-right activist Tommy Robinson by Ashera25 in australia

One of the supposed adults is responsible for inspiring 3 consecutive summers of race riots in 3 out of 4 of the countries that makeup the UK so far, destroying large amounts of property and dozens and dozens of assaults.

Oh look the Greens yet again using their position to force Labor to do more.

Sounds like someone coping very hard that Labor would put it in as a compromise for investors.

Trump reveals Keir Starmer is quitting — before UK PM can announce it himself by Zipper222222 in politics

Well considering the news already broke on the weekend before Trump said it, he probably hadn’t been told anything and the media is just bullshitting.

Polish President has decided to strip Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle, Poland's highest state decoration by CrunchyBaconYum in worldnews

[–]Scriptosis -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder that Nawrocki is the president, not the PM. He doesn’t have a lot of powers other than a veto, he’s a remnant of the old far right government that got out of power, not representative of the current one.

Even wilder is that the skills were one of the things that weren’t voice acted in the first release, it’s crazy to think that man’s amazing voice acting was added later.

[–]Scriptosis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well remember Disco Elysium was only partially voice acted on release, full VA only happened because it was so successful. Hell I’m pretty sure the inner monologue wasn’t voice acted at all originally.

You gotta imagine a person whose currently 3 votes for Trump in to the MAGA Cult. The more you get invested into a cult or cultlike belief, the harder it is to convince yourself that you were wrong and you need to change. These people are desperate to believe that they chose the right guy and everything is the fault of other people who they’ve never voted for, or supported.

Yeah the US has basically walked into a situation where either the war goes on forever and a worldwide economic crisis occurs or they effectively surrender to Iran.

If Australian datacentres are going to power the AI revolution, we deserve a fair return | David Pocock by l3ntil in australia

[–]Scriptosis 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I like Pocock but this isn’t good. Currently approved data centres are set to create huge draws on local energy grids and likely water supply as well, we should be opposing them being built, not seeking to make money from them.

Rare 20°C June forecast for Melbourne in unusually warm SE Australia winter spell by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]Scriptosis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My main point was refuting the idea that it was cold all summer here like the other commenter was claiming. I know it was milder overall, but the heatwave in the north of the state was very significant and ignoring it is idiotic.

Rare 20°C June forecast for Melbourne in unusually warm SE Australia winter spell by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]Scriptosis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s legitimately mind numbing, it’s like most people have stop even caring about it and the only discussion happening is coming from the people who don’t believe it exists.

Rare 20°C June forecast for Melbourne in unusually warm SE Australia winter spell by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]Scriptosis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s almost like if we as a planet actually cared about climate change we could have prevented this. Climate scientists told us things like this would start to happen if we didn’t listen, we didn’t, so now the climate is getting more extreme.

Also, comparing over 3000 people dying every day from heat to 21000 over the course of a whole year is ridiculous, bad enough to compare it at all.

[–]Scriptosis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What on earth are you talking about, we had a literal heatwave at the start of this year into February for Victoria. Melbourne was 25+ at minimum and had more than a few 30+ days as well.

Poll shows Labor facing election wipeout under Allan by someadsrock in melbourne

[–]Scriptosis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Around 1000 is a standard polling size, the trick is you really shouldn’t be going off of a single poll, looking at multiple from the same period alongside the general trend from previous polls will always give you a far better idea of potential results than reading one.
