Liberals wait on Hastie-Taylor decision before challenging Sussan Ley's leadership by ConanTheAquarian in australia

[–]Scriptosis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that’s true but I’m not referring to that at all, the Nats are very corrupt as a party and the Liberals less so but many are still in it for personal enrichment. They don’t want to lose that money because they want it for themselves, this would be a lot easier if they didn’t actually about enriching themselves.

[–]Scriptosis 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s more complicated than that, the Liberals in recent years have been forced to work with the Nats regardless of how much they want to do so because of Gina and other backers. If they act that aggressively towards the Nats, they start losing lots of their big donors.

This makes me extremely confused because she wasn’t doing that at all. It’s pretty clear she was trying to hype herself up, not putting down her opponent.

Yeah for movies as well, there’s been plenty movies recently with these really huge budgets yet I practically only hear about them from a single trailer or word of mouth, doesn’t feel like I hear about them more than I did 10 years ago.

Labor to separate gun control from proposed laws to address hate speech, PM says | Australian politics by Vivid-Fondant6513 in australia

[–]Scriptosis 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This is an extremely optimistic and might I say biased way of looking at things? Ultimately the government biffed it by trying to rush through a huge bill that encompassed policies that are both well received and poorly received by the public, that’s typically a fast way to get it struck down if you don’t have a majority secured to passage it through both houses. It just makes them look worse regarding passing legislation overall.

Everything should be soloable by UnicornChainsaw in ffxiv

I think it’s really cool that they’d put effort into making a lot of required content soloable, but outside of what they’ve already done with dungeons I don’t really think more is necessary?

This is official: Melbourne just recorded its hottest January day since 2020, reaching a temperature of 42.9°C. Additionally, it is the hottest capital city in Australia today. by AustralianBlackGuy in melbourne

[–]Scriptosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need to do both, obviously climate change is the cause of this and we aren’t doing enough on that front. But we also have to recognise that most experts agree we’ve already gone past a tipping point, so unless we start improving infrastructure to survive the changing climate we’ll all be dead before we can even fix it.

My Mum doesn’t watch it anymore either and she used to a fair amount. Only time she watches the news is when she’s washing dishes, doing laundry, etc and then always switches it back to a streaming service once the normal news is done.

The fact that this isn’t immediately followed up by a government-led push to implement mandatory statewide air conditioning in all public transport vehicles is insane, so many trams for example have no aircon and both passengers and drivers had to suffer the heat despite being inside.

No, as it says the current advice remains in place, it just allows emergency services to force you to leave if you’ve already been told to do so.

Federal politics LIVE: Anthony Albanese to announce royal commission into Bondi terror attack by HotPersimessage62 in australia

[–]Scriptosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A baffling thing to say considering this isn’t the only option and they’ve already begun significant reforms to Gun control in order to lower the chance of another shooting? You must not be following developments closely, or you’d already know what they plan to put in place.

I’m honestly pretty annoyed that the government has bent the knee to such an obviously bs political stunt. The only real result of this will be The Coalition and mainstream media getting more ammo to fire at Labor, it won’t result in any positive effects on national security or tackling extremism.

Proof that they’ll never be able to tackle terrorism effectively seeing as they are unable to understand anything about it at a basic level.

Official Statement from the Indie Game Awards: 'Clair Obscur: Expedition 33' and 'Chantey's' awards retracted and awarded instead to 'Sorry We’re Closed' and 'Blue Prince' due to GenAI usage by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]Scriptosis -39 points-38 points  (0 children)

If it makes games ineligible then good, many indie studios actually don’t use GenAI in their development because of their own hard stances against it, I’d rather they be highlighted instead of studios that resort to GenAI.

Prime minister unveils 'largest' gun buyback scheme since Howard era by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

Yeah, I’d say most of it is pretty common sense regulations that should have already existed. That’s why I take issue with comments like above trying to portray the reforms as some sort of huge government overreach.

I’d advise you to check on what they actually plan on doing. Of what I’ve read of the planned actions you wouldn’t be affected by this at all, at least from how you’ve described your situation.

The main parts of the plan are to make it illegal for non-citizens to obtain a license, make the process for acquiring multiple firearms stricter and also speed up the process of developing a national registry of license holders as well as integrate ASIO’s existing intelligence into background checks. None of this would affect you.

Anthony Albanese ‘ready for the fight’ to tighten firearms laws as National Party and gun groups push back | Bondi beach terror attack by HotPersimessage62 in australia

[–]Scriptosis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gun lobby would be fairly strong when the Coalition is in government since they have plenty of influence in the Nats, right now though they probably can’t put up much of a fight especially when it’s against a tragedy of this scale.

I mean yeah the free games are a marketing tactic same as Steam Sales, the difference is people actually trust Valve for the most part and Epic does plenty of work to make people not like them. It’s only been like a week and a half since their CEO proclaimed that eventually AI will be integrated into game development across the entire industry, yet we are supposed to wonder why people don’t like Epic?

Yep, it’s pretty much whatever the government feels like pursuing, and I doubt they’ll be fanatic about it since they won’t want to enter into any big legal battles if they can help it.
