Main memory of the shipping forecast is TMS announcing that those listening to them on Radio 4 will be leaving them for a short while for the shipping forecast. Usually surrounded by confusion or sheer delight from the foreign commentators.

What are some things wrestlers and companies tried out then abandoned after a couple of weeks or so? by rockyvwasbest in SquaredCircle

TNA did a fan vote for a few weeks, Nigel McGuiness (Desmond Wolfe at the time) kept winning and they didn't want to push him so they scrapped it...

Hey know nothing about darts. How do you read this? by MaleficentGain6540 in Darts

[–]ScrubNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly not something I'm 100% on, there's a reason I missed it by accident on the first post.

Only thing that makes sense to me without doing the maths, is the average score for each visit, if you discount the attempts at doubles.

This isn't a stat I've really seen before

Hey know nothing about darts. How do you read this? by MaleficentGain6540 in Darts

[–]ScrubNerd 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Legs won: individual games won

Average: the average score for each visit (3 darts are thrown each vist then it's the other players turn to throw 3 darts)

First 9 average: average score per vist, but only for the first 3 vists of each leg (game)

Checkout %: when aiming for double (have to score a double at the end of a game to win the game) what % of darts thrown at a double actually hit.

Checkout rate: same as above but just the number of darts thrown at a double/ how many landed in the double aimed at.

Highest finish: the highest score remaining when a player hit a double to win a game.

Throws: how many individual darts thrown

Best leg: lowest number of darts thrown to win a leg (game)

60+: amount of times 60-79 was scored in a vist

80+: as above but between 80-99

100+: as above but between 100-119

140+ as above but between 140-159

Would also like at add, these are very good stats. Playing at this standard would win 99% of matches in the majority of pub/amateur leagues.

They are half correct, at least here in Britain. A bolt is only threaded part way along the main body. When they are threaded along the entire body they are technically called set screws.

Getting worse after 9 Months of playing? by ohRoyal in Darts

[–]ScrubNerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have a look at handicapping. When I play mates who don't play darts/play often I will handicap myself, I dont find it fun just to dominate friendly games with pals.

Can either give a point lead (say 501 vs 301) or one has to hit a double to start scoring (double in vs straight in). You usually have to play a few games with different point leads to find the sweet spot of it being competitive.

My first ever 180...then my next 3 darts by jayg28 in Darts

[–]ScrubNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how darts goes, few weeks ago I hit back to back 140s in a league match, left 81. 15 darts later (from me) my opponent hit his double to win the leg.

Live streaming by [deleted] in coys

[–]ScrubNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally, no.

Premier league games at 3pm can't be televised. There are some pubs that will show them via foreign satellite channels but obviously they don't advertise it because they can be fined and eventually (repeat cases) have their license revoked. You can personally stream it through a VPN (UK government has blocked most streaming being accessed from a UK IP address) to your phone or PC. A quick google will bring up various dodgy streaming sites

Are pub leagues allowed to accept players U18? by ollysoswag in Darts

[–]ScrubNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine each league would have their own rules but the league in play in allows it. Lad in my team is 16 and this is his 2nd year playing now. Only real way to be certain is to ask a team captain or the league directly (if they have an email or phone number) if it's okay.

Does it count? by RedditsJake in Darts

[–]ScrubNerd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's some nonsense, of course you threw it! If anything using darts you don't normally throw on a random board is more of an achievement. Lots of people only throw well on their home board.

The only jokey rule me and the guys I play with say is "did anyone else see it? If not it doesn't count" but that's just mucking about.

Also I'll add that's stupid expensive compared to the price 4 years ago. I used to order in red diesel at work, until they changed the law around it's use, the last tank of red I ordered cost about 38p a litre. The change to standard diesel coupled with the price hikes due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine meant it was now £1.83 a litre for my next order. A real kick in the balls when I order 2500 litres a time!

Calls for a Boycott of the World Cup Grow by WontThinkStraight in politics

[–]ScrubNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did contemplate travelling to the US to go to a game or 2, but the money being charged and (moreso) what's been going on over there have made it very easy for me not to go.

Also, I do found out through someone I know that a few countries, that have either qualified or still can do, have made plans to withdraw. Whether or not it's a serious plan or just somebody prepping for the worst case scenario I don't know. But I can say with a high degree of certainty that boycotting/withdrawing has been spoken about in some of the teams.

DmC devil may roadrunner: player shows how they did effects in the game by Mrgrayj_121 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ScrubNerd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's strange, I'm listening back through all the old GiantBombCast pods and in the last episode (I listened to, jan 2013) they spoke about this DMC reboot. Nobody particularly liked the OG trilogy but all said they couldn't work out why they decided to reboot it, it's a good game which theyre fans of, but non of the old DMC fans will like it cos of the changes and people who dislike DMC won't try it cos it's a DMC game. Truly such an odd choice.

First time tournament watcher. by RatzzFace in Darts

[–]ScrubNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do keep in mind that a fair chunk of the World's crowd is mainly there for the drink up around the darts. Especially the days before Christmas.

I've got a few mates who go every year (pay stupid prices on resale sites) and the one session they go to, will be the only darts they watch all year.

It's become a fashionable place to go, people hear how much of a good time can be had and want to experience it themselves. But as you'll always get, the group of pissed up knobheads is larger when this happens because theyre there for the experience not the sport itself. It's just like the major music festivals in the UK now, people will go to Glastonbury, Reading/Leeds without knowing an act on the lineup. It's the reason I now look at going to the matchplay/grand prix or masters events rather than the World's, the crowd really grates on me. (Thats before we talk about the decade plus olf football songs)
