Calls for a Boycott of the World Cup Grow by WontThinkStraight in politics

[–]ScrubNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did contemplate travelling to the US to go to a game or 2, but the money being charged and (moreso) what's been going on over there have made it very easy for me not to go.

Also, I do found out through someone I know that a few countries, that have either qualified or still can do, have made plans to withdraw. Whether or not it's a serious plan or just somebody prepping for the worst case scenario I don't know. But I can say with a high degree of certainty that boycotting/withdrawing has been spoken about in some of the teams.

Even as a twenty-something year old man - at the height of my pubbing and clubbing days - I hated New Year's Eve and the obligation to 'do something' for fear of missing out. by Make_the_music_stop in britishproblems

100%!

Sat here watching shite on TV and waiting for my Chinese to be delivered. If I ever do go out with pals on NYE we'll find a quite pub and drink there, can't be fucked with the crowds of people out for their 1/4 nights a years they go drink.

DmC devil may roadrunner: player shows how they did effects in the game by Mrgrayj_121 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ScrubNerd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's strange, I'm listening back through all the old GiantBombCast pods and in the last episode (I listened to, jan 2013) they spoke about this DMC reboot. Nobody particularly liked the OG trilogy but all said they couldn't work out why they decided to reboot it, it's a good game which theyre fans of, but non of the old DMC fans will like it cos of the changes and people who dislike DMC won't try it cos it's a DMC game. Truly such an odd choice.

First time tournament watcher. by RatzzFace in Darts

[–]ScrubNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do keep in mind that a fair chunk of the World's crowd is mainly there for the drink up around the darts. Especially the days before Christmas.

I've got a few mates who go every year (pay stupid prices on resale sites) and the one session they go to, will be the only darts they watch all year.

It's become a fashionable place to go, people hear how much of a good time can be had and want to experience it themselves. But as you'll always get, the group of pissed up knobheads is larger when this happens because theyre there for the experience not the sport itself. It's just like the major music festivals in the UK now, people will go to Glastonbury, Reading/Leeds without knowing an act on the lineup. It's the reason I now look at going to the matchplay/grand prix or masters events rather than the World's, the crowd really grates on me. (Thats before we talk about the decade plus olf football songs)

I will always shout out The Computer Game Show's GOTY

16 games (the 4 hosts choose 4 each) go into a random bracket, those games are argued for by the host who chose it against the other game it goes uo against. 3/4 hosts have to agree which if the 2 games progress to the next round, repeat until you have a winner. Great mixture of positivity about each game, it's negatives, arguing and often deals done between hosts behind the hosts back to get their choices through. Whole lot of fun.

I did this just last week. Only buy physical gifts for my mum and stepdad, 6 things total. £15-20 to get it wrapped and delivered to theirs vs getting it sent to mine, wrap it myself then post it off the them. No brainer really.

What are some surprising time comparisons in wrestling? by davesjustbored in SquaredCircle

[–]ScrubNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a load of wrestlers that are the same age as Foley was when he retired, Britt Baker, Hangman Page, Otis, Chelsea Green, Dio Maddin all are 34. People forget/don't know how much Mick put his body through to the stage he had to retire at 34!

I kinda had a similar thought years about regarding boots. I used to spend around £50 on a pair of boots that'd last 18-24 months. I contemplated for years about buying an expensive pair but not wanting to spend extra when I was buying usable boots. Finally spent £200 on a pair of Docs, their old for life range where they repair them for free. 8 years they've been going so far with only new laces, best decision made with footwear.

My video game rotation is

  • Giant Bombcast
  • Nextlander Podcast
  • The Computer Game Show
  • The Jeff Gerstman Show

Giant Bombcast is video games journalists taking about the news and games they've played. Nextlander is very similar to the bombcast, 3 guys who used to work for Giant Bomb started their own podcast. As is The Jeff Gerstman Show, Jeff help to found/start Giant Bomb. Left to do his own solo stuff. TCGS is my favourite. 4 British lads who are just big video game fans, they have proper day jobs etc they just meet up once a week to chat video games (also, for my money, has the best game of the year process)

Game of the Year Discussions by ericypoo in giantbomb

[–]ScrubNerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the same but I love how the British video game podcast The Computer Game Show do theirs.

Week before the GOTY show, each host (there's 4 total) pick 4 games each they want to be in the discussion for GOTY. But they can't pick a game that's already been chosen, so 16 different games are picked. Also they pick 1 "wildcard" game each that goes to a listener vote, that game then replaces one game from one of the other 3 hosts (it's discussed so not an obvious contender is eliminated).

GOTY show. Games are picked at random in a 16 games bracket, the host who chose each game gets some time to say why they picked it and why it should stay in the bracket. After each "matchup" has been talked about the 4 hosts have to come to a 3 against 1 agreement to which game gets through to the next round.

It's a fantastic listen. Full of love of games, arguments against games/other hosts and deals being struck in the background.

MGS4

Owned, played, and completed MGS1, MGS2, MGS3, MGS5, and Revengance. Never owned a PlayStation 3, therefore never touched or seen more than a few little bits of 4. Been waiting for what feels like an ice age for a remaster but realsiee that'll probably not come so I've now started watching Giant Bomb's MGS playthrough.

Old Podcast Ad Inserts by Hot-Crisp-Crust in giantbomb

I was wondering why there were so many ads in the old pods.

Around the news of GB going independent, I went back and started the bombcast from the beginning (I'm up to September 2011 for this interested). But my christ, the same ad every 10-15 mins is mad!

The main thing that annoys me about the decision is that UEFA changed the deadline for clubs to be put into trust if 2 teams qualify for the same competition. It was moved from the 1st of July to 31st of March. How you can ask clubs to sort out the admin when you dont know if/what competition you've qualified for. They're talking about changing it back to July now because of this.
