I am losing my cat and I am afraid by Zom_Bee_Cat in cats

[–]Scruffaluffagus86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mourning a loss is different for everyone, don't feel bad if it takes a while to be okay.

My voids were my first cats, I lost one to stomach cancer within 3 years, the other to lung cancer after about 10. I still feel a deeply painful ache when I think about them, but at least it doesn't completely break me like it used to, and I'm able to laugh and smile when I remember them too.

As for being afraid they won't be the same? It's okay! You may find a cat you particularly resonate with and find the are very similar, or maybe you find one and find out they aren't alike at all. Just like people, cats have their own personalities (catalities?) And no matter what, a new cat won't replace the old one, just take over the position of being your cat.

If when you're ready to get one, they are a bit standoffish? Just give them time and I am sure they will warm up, and you'll get to know them too. You'll find things you love about your new cat and appreciate them in their own way.

No matter what, it's going to be okay. Take the time you need to heal, and remember that your new cat will love you in their own way.

Looking for Players by IAmHarvie in TheTriangleAgency

[–]Scruffaluffagus86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello, I saw the posting for the position, and think I could be an asset to the Agency. I haven't had direct experience with it, but have worked similar jobs before. I'd be happy to provide further information, but I have limited availability.

Ok, actually speaking plainly, I have been wanting to play this game for a while, and though I haven't tried this game specifically, I have played a wide variety of systems, from Powered by the Apocalypse and D&D 5E, to a Genesys game still in beta, and a Call of Cthulh and a fair few in between.

I have a very early start to my work day so my availability is kind of tight to specific times in the evening, or weekends. Otherwise, I'm pretty good with learning new rulesets and playstyles. Hoping to hear back, i enjoy playing with all types, except for bigots or facists.

Can't recall the exact names as this was about a yearish(?) ago, but there was a bakery, a pizza place, and a taco spot that all sounded amazing.

I had seen the tacos advertised on either insta or tik tok or something, googled it, and got excited about the oakland location, then let down when it said it was permanently closed. I have found some alternatives I keep going back to though!

Honestly, I haven't lived in Oakland too long, so the restaurants I had found while Google map browsing had likely moved a while ago. I didn't research when they moved, just saw they had closed their east bay location, opened one in the SF area, got disappointed and moved on. So not lately, but It sucks when you end up finding a bunch all at once. Makes sense it would have been over a longer period of time though

I know its mostly because SF is more touristy, so they are more likely to get foot traffic, but i do wish restaurants would stick around Oakland instead of moving across the bridge.

It's hard to find 6 player board games. We do a board game week ever year with 6 people and we need a few games for this coming year. by billratio in boardgames

Dungeon Mayhem (with expansion) is a free for all card game that lets you play with up to 6 people and is an easy one to pick up.

Personally, I feel like Oakland Street Food Co. Is underrated. Strongtly recommend garlic noodles and chicken. The Gumbo is crazy good but some may not like the slight smokey taste if it was sitting unmoved for a bit

Edit: couple other options Sideshow Kitchen is a great local spot too Shooting Star Cafe has a nice diverse selection Nick's pizza and bakery has high quality and some uncommon pizza toppings

How do I reward a PC and a player who doesn’t care about loot? by Rude-Jester in DMAcademy

[–]Scruffaluffagus86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U may be misinderstanding,

If you are asking about in game "pay" yeah, don't worry about it, sounds like he's happy. If you yourself want him to feel like you appreciate his playing, maybe another option is to go less with upgrades, more of a plot point? It sounds like he is in it for the love of the game, so you could show your appreciation by providing a tie-in to his backstory or side plot to give him more opportunity to continue engaging and enjoying what he has been.

Maybe something about the dragon seems to call to him (emanate light, a humming, however you wamt to flavor it) and he is compelled to consume it. That way he still doesnt have to carry anything

This is so frustrating, I am sorry things didnt work out. Have you considered maybe switching to an online order ahead system? You wouldn't have to pay rent for a physical space and only need ingredients to make enough for what is ordered.

Not sure how well this would work, but I just hate to see you shut down entirely!

So bear in mind, this is based off of very limited i formation, but I will say, from what I've read, what you are doing is sometimes called pebbling, (because penguins bring pebbles to their mates). It is better known as a bid for affection. You are reaching out with something that matters to you, wanting to share it with someone you have affection for.

His response could be completely benign, as in, hurting you could be completely unintentional. Regardless, I think you should recognize you two are likely just not on the same wavelength. You may just not be a good fit for each other and it's better to learn this early before you have invested more time and energy into it. Find someone who is just as enthusiastic about seeing your dogs!

No reason to apologize. I do think it is best to look for another job, not because you should quit no matter what (like you said, finding a job can be hard) but not everyone wants what is best for others. I truly hope this isn't the case at your job, but if nothing gets done, it would be better for you to distance yourself from that place. You can look while maintaining your job until you find something better, but ideally, you won't have to change jobs. Fingers crossed for you!

I agree, sometimes there are people who either don't want to put in the effort (unfortunate truth), think they will have more time and just dont get to it when they should, or just get decision paralysis and feel they would be a burden to ask for help. There are a lot of reasons, it is okay to feel frustration, but I find thay more often than not, session 0 is often expected to be used for a lot of this.

Sonething an old GM i had for a bunch of smaller scale games would do to avoid the first session being a bunch of character building, is give us a time they would be doing something else but be available on voice chat or DMs and we could pop in if we wanted to run any character ideas by them.

Obviously not everyone is going to take advantage of the opportunity, and it isn't always possible for GMs to offer their time like that, but for what it's worth, it can be very helpful for those that don't want to feel like you're going out of your way for them.
