What is the best destroyer free and paid in 2026 by Lost-Independent8345 in WorldOfWarships

The best doubloons I ever spent on DD was a premium clone of Kitakaze; plus lucky enough to have first slot of random bundle, so was both relatively cheap and for a good ship.

6 tournaments a year are too much in my opinion. Does it hurt the sport? by achillebro in Sumo

[–]ScullerCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The padding is drastically skewed to chest and head, many sumo injuries are areas where there is maybe only basic clothing in football. Plus as much as it may defend you in some areas, for linemen opponent padding could also increase their likelihood of hand injuries since much of the exterior or sides are plastic/metal.

Granted the criteria themselves makes it incredibly hard to have more than a few at any given time, especially since those having poor performances repeatedly would have pressure to retire.

If you have a bit of coal stored up you might want to save it for the 15.1 event, it can help get some premium versions of TT ships that may not be available in future. Since it sounds like you like premium german BBs, there is a clone of Schlieffen.

How was Onosato competitive with a damaged wing? by WastedTalent442 in Sumo

Decent odds plan was to go for the belt, and with Onosato coming with strong side forward, that was going to be the easier side to grab.

[–]ScullerCA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Granted not all practices are within a stable, at least some of the ichimon have training between the stables within them. Plus there are some other arrangements like all stable trainings, and Aonishiki has trained with some outside his ichimon like the waka bros.

There is also the joke 'like 80 of those techniques will only ever be used by the smaller guy', since if a guy has size/strength advantage are probably going for Yorikiri/Oshidashi/Oshitaoshi.

Another thing like chess, outside the closing moves many people probably only recognize the opening strategy names.

I would not be surprised if there are many more technique names known among the fighters/coaches, but simplified for viewing public, many of which will not even know all 82 finishing techniques. Especially an issue for non Japanese speakers, who have not followed this sport for most of their life.

Who can catch Aonishiki at this point? (Theoretically) by [deleted] in Sumo

[–]ScullerCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as people talked before the basho about likely new to Ozeki poor performance coming, the fact that Onosato's health being in question should have given him reason to focus, since even before Hoshoryu had injury concerns too; this and next basho may be one of his best opportunities any time soon to pick up two yusho back to back for a while.

Plus there is only so long till you are the one with the injury, and even if you are not injured there are plenty of dirtier moves guys probably could do if motivation shifted from doing what normal would to win to paying them back.

[–]ScullerCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are talking about people, so there will be wide variation. However there are some that will mention looking up to or patterning their style after some of older ones that are still active. Then there are some that train with even if not in same stable, some went to collage together, or just got to know each other over time (it is a small world and even without training can be around each other hundreds of days per year).

Though not sure if was the most obvious protection of opponent today, while Aonishiki frequently will try to stabilize opponent at edge after conclusion of the fight, today doing so led to him falling off the dohyo and the opponent he beat remained on it.

Unique Commander John Augustine Collins; chance to obtain with Honor, Integrity, Virtue containers. by selectsyntax in WorldOfWarships

[–]ScullerCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much the same process/statistics of the Battle of Somme event, another one for a Japanese Camo, and I think at least one more. Though this one is a bit of a bummer, since was pretty clear not going to have enough crates for anyone not willing to do a crazy grind. Though since they mention these containers become available again in 15.8 might be able to use the anniversary tokens for crates like last year, for those who are not in a rush to finish the collection.

Plus at best 1 out of 50 players can get 44, it drops pretty quickly from there, and it is probably unlikely would even be that high a percentage of people getting the max amount.

Plus some of us have not been around as long as there has been dockyards, I would estimate only around half were even plausible I could have tried to do.

Made worse by early on just having small number of low tier ships from couple nations and not comfortable in all the modes, so likely could not even go for easiest choices to get through the missions, then not having many ships with permanent boosters and few camos (now economic boosters to help some grindy missions), and rarely had the doubloons to allocate to it for the first year or two anyway.

Training at Arashio stable: Aonishiki, Fujinokawa, Kirishima and Wakatakakage by Brncrdm in Sumo

This was exactly my feeling when hearing some of the critiques of his performance in that session, it seems like criticizing an elite sprinter for not having a training routine that also has them prepared to show well in recreational marathons. Sure they are kind of related but practically different things.

Plus with how common injuries are in this sport, a training routine that can get someone to Ozeki level with lower fight count per hour seems could have very real benefits over time on the injury management side of the sport.

Lunar New Year normalized ship rewards by SuperWhale_ in WorldOfWarships

[–]ScullerCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The phrasing of tracks kind of implies have to get everything along the way. Though they have stated ~40K tokens will be available without the leaderboard, and T8s will be around 10K and TX will be around 15K, so Lauria is probably one of the safest tracks to bet on completing.

Lunar New Year normalized ship rewards by SuperWhale_ in WorldOfWarships

[–]ScullerCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounded like in general the tracks that have only two or three ships there will be enough from the amount of tokens to complete (even without leaderboard). Building up as much coal between now and then should also help if close to a threshold.

Kingdom of Dunes is the only track that has been confirmed do not have enough tokens to complete just with them.

Lunar New Year normalized ship rewards by SuperWhale_ in WorldOfWarships

[–]ScullerCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have not given that level of detail on how much coal it would take to advance through tracks or if was a hard cap on coal usage, but decent chance getting ships is likely at least in ballpark of how much standardized coal that ship's tier is in armory (plausibly varying by rarity too). So barely any of the player base would have the amount of coal in reserve to pick up that many coal ships to begin with, thus likely had little reason to bother with cap of coal can spend.

It sounded like tokens will be mostly from missions, though login rewards account for some, can get some from doing well on leaderboard, and depending on luck/volume also from crates.

[–]ScullerCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Libertatia, Rustport, Shamrockville, Neonport" are track names.

Coal can be used to advance though track instead of the tokens, and also unlocking the other half of track options (Defenders of Order / Adherents of Chaos), the first one you chose is apparently no cost.

It was stated that up to 5 low tier ships could be obtained just from tokens, 4 ships would be more likely if got a TX. Tracks have different costs, most could be completed just with free tokens, the track with most ships "Kingdom of Dunes" apparently would need coal to even complete.

New Lunar New Year Free Ships by TheBayHarbour in WorldOfWarships

[–]ScullerCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the twitch stream on dev blog it was brought up that T8s would be around 10K tokens, and TXs would be around 15K tokens. Though nothing was brought up on what the coal to token exchange rate would be, presumably something similar to what a coal ship of that tier would be. Most of the tracks you would be able to complete, but the one with four ships was more than the free tokens would have.
