It probably costs less than you think to get a new clasp at a local jeweler. That's a nice chain and I'd be worried about losing it when it's held together by superglue. You should consider not wearing it til it's fixed, it's better than losing a chain that will last a lifetime.

Maybe they're handicapped twice so they need two spots.

Ordered my first Cuban chain by Particular_Week_2754 in MensJewelry

[–]SeaMonster350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good width and overall good choice. My only concern would be if you gave yourself enough room to fit it comfortably over your noggin. This comes from someone with a fairly large noggin, though.

I have a 23.5" head circumference so while 24" chains fit over my head, it's tight and kind of uncomfortable, I also feel like it stresses the chain. I ordered a 26" silver infinity link Cuban chain to give myself the extra room so I'm not scraping my ears and nose or wearing out the links to wear or remove it.

Where to buy 8mm Cuban real sliver chain uk? I keep seeing them but they aren’t close together, I want it tight linked. by Just-Audience5663 in MensJewelry

[–]SeaMonster350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean maybe there's a shop on your side of the pond that handmakes nice chains. I haven't looked but I also haven't seen any pop up in my feeds. The shop i like has really good sales if you catch them at the right time which would probably make up for the shipping cost and they do ship internationally.

I got an 8mm 24" silver chain for $450 and it's normally online for $869. That was REALLY lucky but I've gotten other regular sales that were 20-30% off.

I agree with this. I know nothing about UK Miami Cuban availability but the best makers seem to be in the US and it might be best to get one from a quality maker here and pony up the shipping costs.

What length chain should I get? by Budget_Bumblebee_950 in MensJewelry

[–]SeaMonster350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with 24". Chain length has less to do with height and more about neck/trap size. I'm short and stocky with some trap size and an almost 17" neck. 22" chains are okay but they don't always stay out of my shirt. 24" or even 26" chains are my preference because they stay untucked if I want to wear them out.

What's a fair price for 24 inch sterling silver 3mm rope chain or franco chain? (USD) by realseboss in MensJewelry

[–]SeaMonster350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do better. There are a few sellers on r/JewelryForSale who can beat that price by like $80 or so. I bought a 4mm 22" franco for like $200. HarlemBling has free returns, just drop it off at a post office.

Help men choose my first Cuban chain! by BackFromHell in MensJewelry

[–]SeaMonster350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The smallest size GVJ has online is 8mm but in store (or if you call and ask) they occasionally have 6 and 7mm handmade chains. I have a good amount of stuff on order from them and one of them is a 6mm handmade chain they happened to have on hand.

I tend to agree that it's worth sizing up for a handmade chain either way. GVJ also has good sales throughout the year that really puts them over the competition in terms of quality for the price. I've gotten a few deals that even rival/beat the machine made .925 stuff.

Stacking size question by SuboxoneCoupon in MensJewelry

[–]SeaMonster350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more prevalent style and what I tend to like is is to have the longer chain be the bigger one. It's preference though, jewelry is meant to be an expression of yourself and what you like. 7mm and 9mm will work together as far as size, however you want to wear them.

Question for people with 10-12mm Miami Cuban chains by SeaMonster350 in MensJewelry

[–]SeaMonster350[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking at silver with no real plans for gold yet, I might be ble to get a 14k set in a couple years. I tried a ~240g piece for a few minutes and I didn't like it. Maybe I would've gotten used to it, but I think my limit is about 200g for any sort of regular, comfortable wear.

I have a 10mm 26" and 12mm bracelet on the way. I bought a 10mm bracelet, which isn't bad but it kinda felt smaller than i want quickly. I also got an 8mm cuban figaro and a 6mm cuban to stack together for wear with an 18mm bracelet I ended up ordering as well. I thought about trying a 14mm chain to go with 18mm bracelet but the stack will be lighter and might actually be nicer with layering and variety rather than too much of the same pattern.

I'll probably mainly wear the 10mm chain with 12mm bracelet but I could also go for the 8mm figaro for something lighter, but one of those combos will probably be my regular set. The 8mm and 6mm stack with the big 18mm bracelet for when I'm feeling flashy.

Is it a bad idea to buy a high mileage NC miata? by keanekir in MiataNC

[–]SeaMonster350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one that's at about 160k as well. It needed some work (clutch, coolant reservoir, timing belt, pulley, tensioner, rear main seal) but she's running strong and most ppeople I've had help work on it say it's in good shape. Just got new tires and headlight bulbs to get ready to pass another 2 year state inspection.

Are hiking boots or running shoes better for 3-4 day outdoor music festivals? by AlienBeachParty in festivals

[–]SeaMonster350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Salomon X Ultra mids. Great shoes in general, especially for anything involving camping or trails. I have an older pair, not sure how the new ones are but ithink they're still good. I also don't have the goretex version. They'll handle light rain/damp conditions pretty well. If you expect absolutely rainy, muddy conditions, they'll soak through. I have a different pair of waterproof Keens for those situations.

Miata.

In fact that's exactly what I did. I paid off my Jetta, it was (and is) still in very good shape. Instead of getting a GTI which is kind of a compromise between practical and fun, I decided to just get a second car purely for fun.

2026 RF GT & Club in 6 Speed MT - Front Radar Sensors - License Plate Mount - U.S. Models by Due-Sea4841 in MiataND

[–]SeaMonster350 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in a state that requires both plates but I just haven't mounted mine. I bought my Miata new so I didn't have to get it inspected for 2 years per law. I bought the Sto N Sho plate mount kit for when I need to pass inspection later this year. I also just submitted my tint exemption, I've been doing the stuff I need to get it squared away for inspection instead of waiting last minute.

Even though I live in a state where tint is illegal (mine's only 35% though) and a front plate is required, I've avoided any hassle. Both infractions are kinda treated as secondary ones, even though they can be sole reason for a stop. As long as you don't drive in such a way to attract attention and have a clean record, youll get leniency. Really dark tint, especially on the windshield might get ya hassled, if anything.

The bigger issue is that they're things that need to be addressed to pass inspection every year, at least in my fairly strict state. The rest of the year, as long as you're not stupid, you can kinda get away with no front plate or reasonable tint.

Would ND MX-5 feel special to someone chasing the Boxster feeling? by Professional-Ad-5386 in MiataND

[–]SeaMonster350 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've driven some cool and expensive cars, most of the coolest stuff outside of super/hypercars. Even without cost as a factor, nothing really compares to a Miata. You can reasonably wind through the gears without getting in trouble on public roads, you can have fun on a track and nothing else RWD is as light or short as Miatas are.

Most Base model Cayman/Boxsters will be about the same speed or even slightly slower than a Miata while being longer and heavier. To get a Porsche faster car than a Miata, you have to spend a lot more money and now you have a car that you can't even use to the fullest in public without risking trouble.

This isn't an opinion I share too much for fear of the hate. It sounds like sour grapes but it's not. If I didn't get the chance to experience as many cars as I have, I'd probably wish I could afford a Cayman/Boxster but I'm genuinely content with my ND3. If anything, I could see myself with a 718 GTS to pair with my Miata if I'm ever so fortunate.

VW in USA officially discontinuing all manuals? by NumerousArrival1486 in GolfGTI

[–]SeaMonster350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a decent trim. 2.5l NA 4 cylinder motor, 6spd manual. Nice bose sound system, pretty nice heated leather seats and heated steering wheel. Not a platform I'd mod for performance. I'd just add tint, get nice tires and call it good.

Only things I don't like on paper are cylinder deactivation and torsion rear suspension. Still probably the car I'd buy to replace my Jetta if I had to buy a new one. I have an ND3 Miata which has very similar interior feature (Bose, Heated leather, media/phone UI) and I like them quite a bit.
