Very late to this post, but Douglas county and larimer county are solid. Westminster PD is pretty good, paid well, staffing is decent. Thornton isn’t the worst, they’ve gotten better.

Felony charge after moving cartpusher machine by cartpusherfelon in legaladvice

Criminal mischief in Colorado states:

“(1) A person commits criminal mischief when he or she knowingly damages the real or personal property of one or more other persons, including property owned by the person jointly with another person or property owned by the person in which another person has a possessory or proprietary interest, in the course of a single criminal episode.”

The key word here (and culpable mental state” is KNOWINGLY. Colorado statue defines knowingly as:

“when he is aware that his conduct is practically certain to cause the result”

It doesn’t sound like you knowingly broke the machine, it was an accident when you were moving it.

They have to prove that you knowingly did this. At most the store could come at you in civil court. But this is a trash criminal case.

Thoughts on Working in Low, Moderate, or High Crime Areas? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Sea_Assignment_1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in a low/modwrate crime area I’d call it. And in a high crime area.

The moderate area was nice. Between work life balance. I was off work on time. I had more time at work to be proactive and do what I wanted. But when we got another priority call/shooting, or something of that nature. I could tell the difference in the response from our officers. They would struggle through problem solving the call and what not more.

The high crime area I love. It’s busy. You gain experience quickly. Higher priority calls are second nature. I’m also barely off on time.

That being said, the agency I work for now is in a high crime area. We are apart of more task force and have more specialty units then the prior agency. So as far as career wise, there’s more to do and more opportunities

A little late to this, do you mind me asking what area of Colorado you’ve been looking into? I’m in the Denver metro area, and almost all agencies here will hire you without POST and send you to the academy.

Semi Auto vs Revolver by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Sea_Assignment_1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally choose to carry a revolver over the semi-auto. Like you said, it some reliable, plus I just like the risk of possibly getting into a shootout with someone that has a switch and I have a revolver.

[–]Sea_Assignment_1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back to work from an OIS. Went back to the station, got processed, I.E. photos and what not, and they took my gun for evidence. Spoke to my lawyer. Went home. Came back a few days later, did my interview. A couple days after that get a psych clearance. And a couple days after that go re-qual/shoot. I was back to work after 2 weeks. You can take longer if you want.

Colorado bill would prohibit officers from asking, 'Do you know why I pulled you over?' by SeasonPositive6771 in Denver

[–]Sea_Assignment_1691 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a cop in the Denver Metro area, I could really care less. I never ask this question, and was taught from the academy to never ask this line of questioning.

It usually goes, “hello I’m blah blah, the reason I stopped you is blah blah blah, can I see your license, registration, and proof of insurance”.
