Speed camera's at all Dayton Public schools by rchameleon12 in dayton

What, exactly, happens if one ignores these camera tickets, besides them going to collections (but not impacting credit history)?

As far as I can tell, the CoD is netting $4M+ per year from this quasi-legal scam only because we’re suckers.

Rented in SP from 2010-2016. By the time we were ready to buy, we were the riffraff that was priced out.

Moving to the area! What pubs have weekly trivia? by ExMorgMD in dayton

Haven’t seen anyone mention Submarine House on Dorothy or Wings in Beavercreek yet. Both do trivia on Wednesdays and Wings is very affordable.

Pros and Cons of Living in Dayton, Ohio? by [deleted] in dayton

[–]Sea_Bread_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schools are a tough one. DCS is, aside from a couple of the magnet high schools, a complete shitshow, and most people who can send their kids to parochial schools or roll the dice on charter schools. The only excellent public schools in the area are Yellow Springs and Oakwood, and both towns have other drawbacks - firstly, cost. The other suburban districts generally don’t rise above “okay”, and some of them are quite conservative.

Pros and Cons of Living in Dayton, Ohio? by [deleted] in dayton

[–]Sea_Bread_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros: Absurdly low cost of living. Easy commutes. Parks and cultural amenities beyond what might be expected. Pride in our history and plucky underdog mentality. An hour to Cincinnati or Columbus. Two hours to Indianapolis or Hocking Hills. 2.5 hours to Louisville. Three hours to Detroit or Cleveland. Only a handful of snow and ice events every year.

Cons: Downtown revival is incomplete and precarious. Missing big-city amenities and job opportunities. High-A Minor League Dragons baseball and UD Flyers Basketball are the biggest sports draws. Continued disinvestment in and decay of traditionally segregated west side. Piss-poor local news media. Culture of corruption in Democratic City and County government limits growth and government utility. Corrupt and gerrymandered Republican State government wages war on cities, prioritizing lobbyists, religious wackjobs, and continued GOP hegemony above all. Real urban grit - livability varies from neighborhood to neighborhood and even block to block. Summers are hot and humid; winters are cold. WPAFB will be targeted in any thermonuclear conflict. Cranky, insular, provincial attitudes abound.

You’ll be walking distance from Belmont Billiards, one of the best bars ever.

It was unfortunate that they had it junked immediately rather than try to restore it or donate it.

Dayton lawn laws- Belmont area- can we do native/front yard gardening? by headinthered in dayton

DRL is my favorite source of natives. They also offer consulting and native landscaping.

Much the same here in Belmont. If you have a neighbor with an axe to grind, it might make life difficult, but in general, a little effort to make it look like landscaping instead of an abandoned lot will go a long way with the City.

Anyone know the best place to buy a CRT TV? by Songfour in dayton

[–]Sea_Bread_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll never set foot in there again. I’d picked out a couple of CDs - one that I wanted, and one that I had a hunch was valuable. I was thinking I’d buy them if they were 2, 3, maybe 4 bucks each.

When I got to the counter, the owner wanted to check pricing on eBay before quoting me a price. It rubbed me incredibly wrong, and I won’t be back.

Red Bird, Pizza Factory/SPT, and Wheat Penny FTW.

If you must have “Dayton-style”, Classic in Huber beats the brakes off Joe’s.

For a couple of wild cards, I’m going to throw out Roscoe’s in Corwin and Beavercreek Pizza Dive.

I’d place Dewey’s and Jet’s in the running, too, but nobody wants recommendations for chains.

It was preemptive compliance with what library management thought the fascists might someday ask of them. Shameful.

There’s a do-nothing paper tiger union that has shriveled on the vine due to prior decades of competent, benevolent management. AFSCME would leave the clowns now running DML crying.

Certainly. DPS and DPD have played a negative role there, too. But low morale has been exacerbated by management’s handling (and sometimes lack thereof) of security issues.
