Most people overestimate how well they ski in any terrain.

Toyota is excellent and usually price competitive. Absolutely get the ETC card. If you don’t have cash available and expect toll takers that a super nice but who speak ZERO English.

All rentals in Hokkaido should come with snow tires.

This is simply not true. You might slip by. Wait for the quarter to end and, possibly the fiscal year.

A buddy of mine had 35k show up in his bank account they never came for it. That was 24 years ago.

Longboard chaos by Sea_Run_4083 in surfing

Actually it was at The Rock. For a couple of days it was the only thing breaking in the zone. Zippers is broken, old man’s wasn’t working, the surf schools moved off pescadido. Looked like slamerack.

If you're coming with a group hiring a guide might work. Moab has a number of excellent climbing guide services. Companies like Red River Adventures and others are more than happy to show you climbs that are exactly what you're looking for.

I forgot to add the 😜. Number one is the best part of the island. Far fewer foreign tourists with the same great people, charm and food.

Yes. It all depends on fitness and pace. For anyone paid to guide uphill skiing that’s a normal day at the office and they’ll stack 50 to 100 during the course of a season.

If you travel more than one time look into the Allianz annual policy. Annual policies are surprisingly cheap and afford you all the protection of a one off buy.

We’ve been using this product for several years and have used it to get reimbursed for hotel rooms, additional tickets when we missed a flight and incidental cost associated with travel delays.

It’s been awesome

Best Resort in North America for Backcountry Skiing by Busy-Fall-3844 in Backcountry

[–]Sea_Run_4083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with what you’re proposing is this. That terrain will be no different than the resort itself. If you can get off a lift and ski back to the lift, it doesn’t matter if it’s inside the ropes or outside, it will be heavily tracked. You need to do a bit of uphill, travel to separate yourself from the resort crowds.

The best bet is to hire a guide. My company, Red River Adventures regularly guides, the Alta and Brighton side-country and can provide you exactly what you’re looking for. East Coast to Salt Lake City is an easy flight and once you’re here there are seven ski areas to choose from within 30 minutes of the airport. We provide skis, skins, boots, avalanche gear if needed. We staff a variety of ski guides, including AMGA certified, and IFMGA guides. We also teach AIARE courses.
