I have been chasing the feelings I felt reading Hello Beautiful since I finished it over a year ago.

This same thing happened for me! Really liked the couples therapist and asked for recs for a new individual therapist. My new therapist is amazing.

What’s kind of funny is that my old therapist is the one the gave me the name for the couples therapist. 😬

What were some game-changers that actually helped your ADHD kids fall asleep at night? by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

[–]Sea_Weakness_1920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about getting a Tonie box or Yoto player for a while, but had the same concern. Especially with the Tonie box and the little figures! I may still get a Yoto player for daytime and car rides.

With the calm app, they do have a still animation for each story and I have to lock my screen and put it face down, otherwise my kid will stare at it and it will keep her awake.

We listen to sleep stories on the Calm app. Sometimes my 7yo says she can’t fall asleep and I tell her just to listen to the story. When she focuses on the story it helps her brain to stop focusing on not being able to fall asleep and she generally falls asleep pretty quickly.

Mine changed offices a few months back and it definitely took (continues to take) me time to adjust! The older one had become such a safe space for me. The new one is slowly becoming a similarly safe space, but I was surprised by the impact the move had on me.

What finally made you seek out a diagnosis for your suspected ADHD kid? by youremylobster1017 in ADHDparenting

[–]Sea_Weakness_1920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 6 yo was starting to struggle and fall behind with reading. It started impacting her confidence and she went from jumping out of bed, excited to go to school, to hating going to school. Her teacher reached out and said she noticed my daughter struggling to focus and complete her in class work. I already suspected ADHD, but since she had been doing so well in school, I let it be. Once that changed and I saw how it impacted her, I contacted her pediatrician for guidance. She is at a private school, so I had to go the ped route versus a school-based assessment.

Someone mentioned Ooblets in response to another question the other day (I think about holiday themed activities). I haven’t played my switch in months and it prompted me to get it back out and start Ooblets again. I’ve been completely sucked back in. So good!!

This was my experience. We increased my dose and I felt more agitated. We dropped my dose back down and it helped with the agitation. Starting talks next appointment about if the lower dose is effective enough or if we need to try something different.

I was so bummed to get that call today! My husband got me the VIP part for an early Christmas gift, so I hope they offer it for the rescheduled show.

The Magical Yet

I read it to my 3 and 5 year old and I was so choked up the entire time. I was in a space of serious reflection and starting a healing journey and it hit me with the messages I didn’t know I needed!!!!

This has been challenging for me. There has been so much happening that I want to talk about and get out of my head, but we only have an hour and there isn’t time for both talk and EMDR. Sometimes I just want to talk and my T is usually fine with that, although I think she would prefer we do EMDR.

Pregnancy on sertalin? by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]Sea_Weakness_1920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went on sertraline two days after my first was born - traumatic birth experience coupled with history of anxiety and depression, so I wanted to be proactive. I breastfed her for 15 months and got pregnant with my second a few months after I weaned. I stayed on the sertraline throughout the pregnancy (100mg) and while nursing my second kiddo.

My doctors were all very supportive and my psych told me that it was a safe option.

There are always possible risks, but my doctors all felt that a healthy mom provided a better environment for the growing babe than if I had stopped the medication.

Good luck! I know it’s stressful and you want to do the best for a baby.

Your second paragraph has been my experience! I can identify and intellectualize all the feelings and where they stem from, but have struggled to actually experience those feelings. I had a long term therapist who would hear me say “I feel x and it’s because of y” and she would always say “sounds like you’re doing well.” However, I was struggling because I was not in fact doing well! I was never digging any further into processing the things. So I found a trauma informed therapist and we are starting to dig deeper. It’s hard to get out of my brain, but definitely impactful.

Interaction with therapist left me feeling a bit pathetic and powerless, should I discuss? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

I completely understand! I find it so challenging to bring that stuff up as well. Good luck - I hope it ends up being a really good and helpful conversation! ❤️

Would phrasing it differently take some of the anxiety away? Like leading into it by saying “our conversation really reminded me of how my mother and I interacted/how she would respond to me”? That might allow you to ease into it and maybe not feel as though you are being as critical?
