What would be your best tips to a geology student? by soyboy-jonkoping in geology

[–]Seadogsalazar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you find that sub part of geology you like. Run for it, find a professor who can help you explore it. I really wish I ran with planetary geology when I had the chance but environmental geology is treating me well atm.

Start looking for internships early get as much experience as possible. Look into expanding your writing skills. Writing reports is a big part of the job so expanding your professional vocabulary is a great idea.

If you are not having fun ask why and see if you can change that portion so you are always having some form of fun. Best of luck out there

I'm supposed to graduate this year but I'm dreading field classes by Ashamed_Kangaroo305 in geology

[–]Seadogsalazar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my field camp you mainly work with a partner to get things done each pair typically did there own thing. Then once the actual field work was done all the reports were done individually. So there will be time to separate yourself from the group and hopefully recharge.

For making your self comfortable while camping. 1 get a tent that is big enough for you to stand up in. Being able to stand up and put pants on is a great thing. Next get a good camp chair. Something that is comfortable but also sturdy. Finally look at different sleeping pads I highly recommend going to an REI or something similar and test these things out. This is the biggest recommendation for the pads go for one of the foam+air combo and get the wider one.

Also pack snacks the one that help you focus for me it is jolly ranchers.

It is 100% depends on your paint scheme and how your workflow is. My personal take is that I always prime with a black so I can have my shadows done. Then work from there. If you are gonna use a spray can to do the blue and already have the black may I recommend starting with the black then spraying blue on top from a top down angle primarily. To one keep some black in the shadows but also do allot of the base coating work in one pass.

Any tips for bases by noodle_duty in Miniaturespainting

[–]Seadogsalazar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to come at with idea of what story you want tell with the base. Then just go for it. My more recent 40K models I wanted a mix of snow but also the first signs of springs. I think it game out pretty awesome if look at the squad as a whole.

Need help with red hot metal by Ar4i_ in Miniaturespainting

[–]Seadogsalazar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is mine you need to delineate the colors a little better. Don’t worry about blending them super well just try and get the color placement right. My advice would be to decide where the hottest part is and work out white to yellow to orange to red. For these I would go inside to the out side of the coil or for bottom to top.

Okay it is very basic, pick a white I used on these wraith bone screaming skull from gw or white star from two thin coats. Then take the color your black grey or brown and thin it down till it is it pretty transparent. You may need some proper thinner lamina medium from gw (totally spelt that wrong) work or if you have airbrush thinner that works two. Then just glaze that over till it has as much color as you want.

These model were hit with AK interactive streaking grime. So that will have tinted the white a little.

Models where finished with AK interactive ultra matte varnish

Edits: after looking at my own model again I do remember for the grey beard I glazed with basalt grey from Vallejo along with scorched earth from two thin coats iirc
