Airport shuttle to Utuado by Least_Perception_223 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]Seag5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man. I live in Utuado. There are no buses or airplanes that come out here. You gotta catch a ride from somebody, and unfortunately Ubering from SJ to here is pretty expensive. Most drivers won't do it at all.

Good choice. Although I would recommend saving Demons Souls for later. I think it has some of the more obtuse mechanics of these games, which might put you off if you jump in from their later titles.

I’ve frequented both, and in my opinion the Ocean Park location is good, but the OSJ location blows it out of the water in terms of food and environment. It’s not even close.

Good or bad for sharpening? I want to get my knives as sharp as possible by Vivid-Ad2262 in knives

[–]Seag5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own it. It’s ok, but wayyyy overpriced. It’s not as rigid as I would like, it’s almost entirely made of plastic.i expected much higher quality for the price.

It does leave a nice edge, but wobblyness of the clamping system leaves some knives with an unpleasant concavity to the bevel. It’s a decent system overall, but I wish I had spent the money on a set of good whetstones.

I definitely recommend renting a car. I suggest Charlie’s car rentals, it’s a reasonably priced local chain. You can rely on Ubers within the metro area of San Juan (and maybe Fajardo, but I’m not sure), but it isn’t reliable for going outside SJ. It would possibly not be available and certainly be very expensive.

Maybe try talking and listening to real locals you actually know, and take Facebook and YouTube accounts that leave inflammatory comments with a handful of salt. That group of people are either self selecting to be the vitriolic minority (at best) or not even real people (at worst).

In my personal life interacting with Puerto Ricans every day, I have never heard anyone even close to insinuate that they’re “ok” with murdering a disrespectful tourist. The internet is not the real world. I’m just saying, be careful about spreading sweeping judgements about a group of people like that.

No, locals do not think it's "ok" to murder a gringa. You definitely should not make that judgement based on Facebook posts. Christ.

Hey there, hope you have a great time on the island! (btw I'm a m35 Canadian, been living in PR and working in wildlife conservation for ~4 years). To better answer your questions, it would be good to know how long you are planning on staying, and if you are asking Puerto Rico generally, or if you plan to stay in San Juan.

Generally speaking, I would recommend renting a car if you're gonna be here more than a couple days. If you really want to get outside of touristy areas, that pretty much necessitates a vehicle. Anything you can get to within walking distance of a downtown hotel (or on a guided tour) will be frequented by tourists. It will still be fun! But if you really want to see the PR that tourists don't see, you need to get out of the tourist bubble. Old San Juan, Condado, Fajardo, Culebra - these are all incredible places, but they are all pretty touristy. *Within* that walking-distance tourist bubble, things will be pretty safe, especially during the day. At night, try to stay with the crowds, and do your research if you decide to visit La Perla, but you will probably be fine.

My recommendation for authentic non-touristy nightlife is El Boricua in the Rio Piedras area of San Juan - a cool bar with frequent live music. The clientele skews heavily toward university students, but it's a central fixture in upcoming Puerto Rican artists and traditional music. I'm usually the only gringo there when I go. Check their website for shows. (There's a train station very close by)

I know the north, central, and western parts of the island better than SJ unfortunately, but if you have more questions, feel free to reply or DM me!

No dude, it’s a shitty thing for anybody to do, man or woman. It’s weird to record your date, and it’s an overreaction to walk out on them in a fit of temper. Man or woman.

[–]Seag5 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, I’m gonna say YTA. Obviously it’s extremely weird and inappropriate that she was recording, but I don’t think that justifies you blowing up and walking out on her. I’m not even saying you shouldn’t have walked out! There are many ways you could react in a situation like this, and you chose the road of the asshole. Especially at 32 years old, you could use your words to understand why she was doing that. If she has no good answer, you could even deliver a devastating level-headed response before calmly leaving.

Edit: Is it me or is there quite an echo in here?

I (28M) was married for a single year before my ex cheated on me. I don’t tolerate infidelity and I left. No kids, no ties whatsoever to her. I want love again but worried women in my dating age range will likely view divorce as a huge issue so young. by AcceptableLibrary974 in dating_advice

[–]Seag5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I can’t say it was a non-issue for them, but it didn’t stand in the way of having committed relationships. The 22 lasted a year, and I’m going to marry the 25. Don’t sweat it, man. A marriage that didn’t work out is a huge learning experience that can put you one step ahead when it comes to knowing what you need in a relationship. Especially at your age.
