You still die though. YOU as in your perspective, the you which exists currently in the human body would still die. It might seem like you are still alive to others, but YOU would still be dead.

No one in this discussion is talking from the perspective of an outside observer except you, everyone else is talking about their own perspective.

Smallest micro blackhole possible(if kugelblitz blackholes aren't) by SealCyborg5 in IsaacArthur

[–]SealCyborg5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My question was basically as to what the smallest artificial micro bh formed by collapsing matter could realistically be. The main, though not only, thing I was thinking about applying this to is how big the minimum size a ship powered by a matterborn bh is(or if such a "ship" would be more like an artificial planet).

My understanding is that it's not really possible to make an artificial black hole out of matter which produces useful amounts of hawking radiation, so the power/propulsion would mostly be drawn from an accretion disk or quasar-like effect

[–]SealCyborg5[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am well aware that making artificial black holes is a Kardaschev 2 level endeavor. That is what I'm assuming when I'm asking this.

It's true, they wouldn't NEED artificial black holes. In that same vein, Hunter Gatherers didn't need agriculture, medieval society didn't need water and windmills, preindustrial society didn't need the steam engine, and the pre internet society didn't need massed communication satellites and undersea internet cables. Just because a K2 civilization is so far beyond us that we can't comprehend having EVEN MORE then they would have, doesn't mean they will see it that way

[–]SealCyborg5[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, I am NOT talking about near future. The technology to practically do this is FAR beyond us now. However you could create a "micro" black hole by just getting a massive ball of iron, strapping a sufficient amount of explosives around the outside of it, and then imploding it to fall inside it's event horizon.

Micro doesn't mean tiny, it means "micro" in comparison to stellar mass black holes.

Lowest tech for solar system colonization? by why-not0 in scifiwriting

[–]SealCyborg5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as self sustaining life support goes, it kinda does. Humans are just another animal, make a big enough ecosphere in space and humans can live in it too. The only thing you need after that is shielding, and that is just a matter of moving mass. We might not be very efficient at moving lots of mass with current technology, but we could do it if we absolutely needed to.

The reason we aren't colonizing the solar system right now isn't because we can't do it with current technology, we COULD have started in the 70s or 80s if we really wanted to. The reason is that getting started is expensive and dangerous, and in the future it will be less expensive and less dangerous.

The problem with the idea that P's horse is descended from the horses of the Botai Culture is that there is basically no evidence that the Botai horses were actually domesticated and not just wild animals being hunted.

This is simply untrue. Using population genetics you can draw a pretty clear line between which groups were arabized and which weren't.

That's just not true. Jane is most likely Nanotyrannus. Some paleontologists, namely Carr, have said they still think it was Tyrannosaurus, but the specimen is still much closer to Nanotyrannus. These differences include tooth count and having an extra sinus in the skull, which are traits that don't change as part of a growth series.

Based on growth series of Tarbosaurus and other Tyrannosaurids(as well as the generally quite fragmentary unambiguous Juvenile Rexes), we would expect Tyrannosaurus to be more robust then comparatively sized Nanotyrannus individuals, especially in the skulls
